what's up everybody so welcome back to
my channel today i'm going to be showing
you how to test for platinum in the
comfort of your own home
platinum is one of the easier alloys to
test for it has a lot less steps
compared to gold where you have to test
for different
carrots as well as silver it could be a
little complicated depending on if you
are using
18 karat acid or if you are using silver
acid
so i'm going to try and keep this video
under three minutes so i'm going to be
moving a little quick
first things first you want to make sure
you have on a pair of gloves that are
either
rubber coated or just wearing nitrile or
latex gloves
so what we have here is the platinum
acid which is a combination of muriatic
and nitric
acid we have our scratch stone and we
have our earth magnet in three different
kinds of rings
so one of these rings is silver one
platinum and one steel
so what we're going to do first with the
the earth magnet
is eliminate the steel magnet so check
these out
see if any other magnet boom right there
magnetic ring so
toss that one out that one's junk so now
we're left with two different rings one
is silver one is platinum
so this is very easy and it's similar to
gold when it comes to scratching it on
the pad
so i'll take the first ring
scratch it now i'm going to scratch a
lot off onto the block so then that way
it's easier for the sake of the video
you definitely do not need to scratch
this much off
go to the other ring
it's a nice amount all right so now
we're moving on to the acid
so what we're looking for is when we
drop the acid onto
the pad onto the the metal that's on the
pad
we do not want to see it dissolve if it
dissolves it is not platinum
if it does not dissolve then it is
platinum
and again i'm using a little more of the
acid than what's needed for the sake of
the video
so instantly right away you can see the
one on the left is starting to
dissolve the one on the right not
dissolving
so right there we were able to verify
the ring on the right
is platinum which also matches
the pt 950 mark inside the ring this is
a tiffany and company's ring
so even though it says something inside
the ring
it's still a good idea to verify it
especially if you're going to be selling
them
then this one says knight two five let
me see if i can get it to focus
if i can even hold it
[Music]
not wanting to focus
there we go nine two five
[Music]
so easy does it hope you enjoy the video
