hey YouTube watches welcome to run and
run my name's Andrew and thank you for
visiting my channel and checking out my
videos so in this video today I'm going
to give you an update on my little side
project which is basically a side hustle
where I tried to make some money growing
some plants we've probably gone can ask
you to subscribe can just please hit
that little button down in the corner
the edges that little down the bottom a
little red box you just hit that
subscribe button place and it doesn't
push your same doesn't take long and
happy days it's in the last video the
plastic ceiling trains arrived and they
exactly what I thought there would be
and two days later the plots that I had
ordered from Aliexpress had also arrived
so very quick delivery I'm very pleased
if took two weeks to get here okay so
these little pots up or three different
sizes so basically pots are measured in
obviously a diameter of the brim and I
bought a 9 a 10 and a 12 centimeter size
stack of 100 each my first impressions
of these pots is that not very positive
I mean it's okay but they definitely
aren't your more expensive proper
plastic pots they are soft plastic you
can very easily push in the side of the
pot and I think it's gonna be perfect
for sort of selling at the markets but
they're not going to be the sort of pot
so you're gonna reuse over and over and
over you might get a couple of rare uses
out of them but then I'll really
certainly going to break okay so a
little bit of a side note so as I'm
putting these first few cuttings from my
tray into these little pots it dawned on
me that I really don't need to put them
into like I don't need to put the little
cuttings into the trays now you're going
straight into the pot especially these
Jade cuttings because they're kind of
very Hardy they don't you know they
don't need to be moved often so I think
straight into the pot is going to be
just fine so let's you know it takes to
step away already so I've got some ideas
about what I can do with the trays I'll
share that with you in a future video
but for now this is all about the pots I
suppose a question that it raises the
the quality of these spots is will they
sell at the markets is the person who's
going to bind a plan
are they really concerned about the
quality of the actual
plastic in the pot a lot of people will
buy these I think we'll probably put him
straight to the garden or maybe report
them into a nice pot especially if it's
an indoor plant they're not going to
keep it in a plastic you know disgusting
plastic pot they are going to put into
something nice so I think it's gonna be
okay okay so here's a little breakdown
the price so far so the Knights
tournament of pots about eleven dollars
11 $12 the Ken centimeter ones about $14
22 and 1/12 enemy ones are about 17
dollars 25 which means roughly you could
paying between 10 to 17 cents per pot so
that's fun of your outlay for selling
these small plants this is pretty much
the biggest outlay I think you're going
to have the soil I haven't worked out
yet but I will do it in a future video
so you can sort of get an idea of how
much saw and you're going to need
especially if you're going to buy it
from a hardware store then it might seem
expensive but I'll do the math and we'll
figure it out so moving on to some of
the propagation issues that I've had so
one of the things that I have done is to
propagate J there's two ways you can do
it one of them is by getting a leaf off
the J plant and putting it onto just
some soil or where about letting the
tips dry out and then the the plant
strikes by itself and they're very easy
to propagate that way okay the other way
is to take a little cuttings and then
the cuttings you allow them to dry add
the tip to dry up and then you confirm
strain to the soil so one of the things
I tried was to take some leaf cuttings
now that this before in the past and
it's worked quite well but this time for
whatever reason you can see that they
did not go well at all
the leaves turn brown really really
quickly and lost all your moisture and
they just died and shriveled up and they
look disgusting and there's no way that
they're going to produce any roots
basically what happened was I positioned
the leaves on top of the little seedling
trays on top of the bench and it
received full Sun the whole day so look
a big mistake they need to be in the
shade or part shade you can't let them
stay in the Sun they're going to shrivel
up lose their moisture really really
quickly so I what
a couple of videos where they've
explained this process and look the
plant doesn't need some sunlight but it
doesn't have to be a huge amount for it
to start trying to you know put some
roots down so look mistakes are gonna
happen this was a mistake there's gonna
be many many more mistakes it's how it
is so instead what I'm going to show you
now is the cuttings and how to do the
cutting method so basically you can see
it I'll put some cuttings here they have
been just cut off with scissors from the
plant and I've put them into a little
tray just to let them dry out and you
can see here that the tips are starting
to dry out really nicely once they dry
out there's less chance of them becoming
rotten so that's the main thing that
you're protecting a plant from is that
root rot or that area where the roots
come out to have some rot because no one
that is it's not gonna work so you want
to make sure that you leave it to dry
out now what you're looking at is about
two three days I think was about three
days of letting the little cuttings dry
and after they've dried you can just pop
them straight into a pot I think and
that's I think I'm gonna do I'm gonna go
straighter to plot this time I'm gonna
leave you at that cuttings tray they're
the seedling seed raising tray we were
straight into those cheap little pots
and hopefully they're going to take
straight from there so I don't see what
it wouldn't but yeah and then again
again just removes a another step from
the process of making these little
plants yeah the next thing I'll just
show you is my current stop level which
is where I'm at with my propagating so -
like I say it's a slow burn slow process
at the moment I'm not going to buy any
plants but I have bought some seeds so
there will be some seedlings coming soon
and that's that's another sort of idea
that I have I'm going to share that with
you in a later video so I got to get my
thoughts around it exactly how that's
going to work so you can see I've got a
couple of pots he that very irregular
there's some different types of plants
in there there's just a little bit of
stuff that I had left from when I was
experimenting earlier okay next up is
those new little pots you can see we had
they kind of look with soil and Jade
inlay and I think they look okay look
quite presentable so next batch others
regular pots that are more mature giant
there are a little bit more
developed so these are the ones that
will sit there and well hopefully we'll
have more growth coming I will be able
to sort of manicure into little shapes
and make them look nice and at the same
time because I'm cutting off little
pieces offered to make him look good day
I don't become the new you new stock in
a smaller pots and last but not least I
have a couple of Jade's in some lovely
cheap Bunnings have some but no to
explain because I'm I'm pretty sure most
of you have watching from the USA so
okay so I'm not I'm not sure if you've
got huge department store type warehouse
hardware in the US I'm sure you have a
masters might be one they try to come to
Australia didn't work anyway we have
Bunnings and Bunnings is huge over here
sorry Bunnings provided these pots they
were on special so what a whole bunch
you can see what the Jade's would kind
of look like in a yeah you know a nice
little pot okay so that's the current
stock I don't have a lot yet but like I
said at any time I can easily start to
create a lot more a lot more but at the
moment they were just keeping it slow so
yeah but that's where I'm going with the
stock levels and finally just want to
also keep giving an update about the
actual other side of it that said the
selling side of it so today we visited
the markets our local fairly large
agricultural markets here that we have
here in kabocha and just north of
Brisbane and these markets unknown for
plants there's a lot of plants there
today was a little bit quiet actually
it's a bit warm and a bit sort of that
way there's a little bit sort of
overcast but yeah we have one another
look so there's a lot of players here
today which was really good to see but
there's a whole lot from nursery so it
looks like people buy these little
plants from wholesale from nursery
because they're they all have these
lovely high-quality tags to describe the
plant it doesn't look like this sort of
home grown from scratch type of sellers
they are definitely on sellers so
there's an area I'm going to investigate
I would like to see how much it costs
what the wholesale price per plant is
that sort of stuff I am really
interested in that but let's come in
down the line the main reason we did go
there is to start looking at the cost of
plants and also to see what sort of
plants people are buying and what
another thing is there's not a lot of
people buy plants so there is a lot of
a lot of foot traffic a lot of people
walking past these shops some people are
going to see them but then there's only
a handful that actually buy plants and
to me it seems that they're very
expensive okay so as a journalist a ssin
is to sort of price ranges okay so you
got your cheaper plants which are
roughly around $3 $2 50 to $3 50 and you
get quite a good range of plants at the
markets some are cheaper than that some
are a little bit more expensive and then
you kind of this jump up to the 10 $15
plants okay and now they're obviously
the more develop lands a little bit
harder to grow or they take a little bit
longer to grow there's a whole bunch of
those and I guess you could do that sort
of 10 $15 range but you've got some for
$8 you've got some for $35 I saw I saw
a plant there today for there's a whole
bunch for our $40 and then I did see one
tree today which was a hundred and forty
dollars that's the most expensive plant
that I saw at the market today so yeah
is that quite a lot of stock variation
or what you can buy the markets so one
of the things that I was looking for was
to see if there's any Jade and look look
there was it was a few but not many do
they not sell so that's what we'll see
I'm doing more research on that one what
everyone well that's pretty much it for
today I just thought I'd give you a bit
of an update about what's been happening
progress is slow but it's still
happening and I'm really pleased at the
plots have arrived and they look ok
they're definitely sort of sellable
quality and I'm hoping that they're
going to be ok
look I've had some issues with the
propagation side of things lessons are
learnt it's how it's gonna be I'm going
to learn an awful lot over the next few
sort of months and you know as we go
through there's gonna be a lot of
mistakes made and that's okay it's okay
to make mistakes of course it's okay to
make mistakes that's how we learn so
finally I visited the market but a bit
more information about the selling sorts
of things and yeah it's been a real good
experience just to sort of have that
mindset going to the kabocha markets
with that mind set up I'm gonna be a
seller how you know how does it work in
terms of all the different ways that the
plants are set up and the costing and
everything like that so we've come to
the end thank you for watching everybody
if you made it this far I double thank
you because it's going to help the
algorithm
I just please remind you if you haven't
already please subscribe that'll help me
a heap really appreciate it my sub
numbers are going up slowly
I have mm I think 1150 subs now so I'm
sort of I'm coming I'm coming fun so
yeah it's okay but still I know that a
lot of you are watching this video and
you're not subbing because there is
about 98% of the view egde is new
viewers so please sub they're little bit
lovely so any questions have comments
please let me know running below I'm
still answering every single one that
comes my way and I'm hoping that the
next video it's gonna be an even better
more exciting update about what's
happening with a dear little nursery
making money on a side project
