if you're a photographer the chances are
quite high that you in the past
thought about selling your artworks on
print so today we're going to do exactly
that
in the course of the video i show you
how to set up a beautiful looking online
store where you can sell everything from
calendars
to canvas prints without ever being
involved in the production
and shipment in case you do not know my
name is till
and in the past year me and my
girlfriend decided to move to a cabin
in the middle of norway we were looking
for a simpler life
closer to nature and with a slower pace
than
we were used to since then i've been
trying to upload weekly videos about the
life out here and how to
still make a living while being in a
rather remote cabin
selling prints of the photographs that
i'm doing for instagram is one of the
income streams but it took me
quite some time to figure out the best
way how to do it
so let's try to save you that hassle and
have a look on how to get going
so today we're going with
for today i decided to keep the tutorial
outside so yuki doesn't have to stay
inside while i'm working
but let's speak about selling prints in
the beginning i thought about a more
traditional way of having a print store
by finding a local producer
and then taking care of the shipment
myself the problem is that
being quite far away from the next
bigger city in a cabin doesn't make
things necessarily easier the next tiny
post station is 20 minutes away
and delivery pickup simply doesn't exist
luckily
people have thought about these problems
and created online solutions where we
don't have to take care
of the printing and shipping so far i
have been through
a few trials but it looks like pig time
is the best alternative
and damn it looks much more aesthetic
than all the other providers
so here's how it works pigtime is a
subscription-based online gallery that
offers you a web presence together with
the necessary store
infrastructure i guess you can compare
it a bit with the squarespace model
by being a paying member you receive
your own domain as well as
different customizable gallery and store
templates to choose from
just with the difference that in this
case the website is an
art or client gallery that you can sell
your prints from
in these galleries you can basically
offer everything from calendars
to huge metal prints the advantage of
such a subscription is that once your
client or subscriber decides to
buy one of your products everything from
the order confirmation to the production
and shipment
is taken over by pig time and their
suppliers
it's literally as simple as that but
let's go through it step by step
so that you could if you want to have
your own store
up and running by the end of the video
oh and this is certainly not a sponsored
video so
i don't think i will be too biased
anyways there's still a few things that
we have to go through before we get
started with the tutorial
basically there are two different ways
of using pig time depending on what
suits you work best you can choose
between working with client galleries
or art galleries i think it's the best
if i just quote the differences as
they're written down on their website
so i do not get anything wrong client
galleries are designed to be delivered
to individual
or specific clients such as a gallery
for wedding
portrait session etc this gallery
usually has a limited number of clients
or guests that you share the gallery
with
and can be made private so these client
galleries are supposed to
be the bridge to sell print works from
freelance photographers to
their already existing and established
client it furthermore says
that the products in the client
galleries can be designed
by your clients they have full control
over choosing between the different
variations
of the type of each product so client
galleries might be great for a lot of
wedding and poetry
photographers out there but it's not
necessarily something that we would need
to sell a few selected products in my
opinion the art gallery feature of pig
time is what suits us creators
best it's literally similar to real life
art galleries
the artist in this case you decides what
of their work is displayed in the
gallery
and what products can be purchased in
the store later on
for every product that you add to the
gallery you can decide about the size
color and crop people can basically only
buy the products that you
decided to create so let's just quickly
go over the expenses that you have to
cover
in order to have such a store and then
set up our own first art gallery
obviously picktime is not a free service
but i have to say that i'm
kind of glad that we are living in a
world where quality products are
supposed to cost money people that are
hiring filmmakers tend to forget that
sometimes the good thing about the art
galleries is that they're a bit more
budget friendly than
the client galleries depending on if you
see yourself paying 15
commission on every sale you end up
either paying 10
or 17 dollars per month i noticed that
picture is having special offers
quite regularly so if you wait a little
bit you might be able to get
a dollar or two off on both subscription
models
but no worries as pretty much everywhere
nowadays there is a 30-day free trial
for you to see
if pig time could be actually something
you can generate income with
or not once you actually decided to go
for the trial
this is pretty much what you're left
with on the left side you have the
navigation panel
in the middle the analytic parts and on
the right the workflow for now there's
obviously not too much to see
so let's head straight over to the art
galleries part and then
use the new gallery icon to get going
once you made it here there are a few
things that we have to go through name
and cover
photos setting up the individual gallery
and setting up
the overall art gallery for now let's
just go step by step and i'm calling
this new art gallery moody
nature the next thing we have to do is
to upload a cover photo that will be
then later on
displayed in the overall art gallery in
that regard i've already been preparing
a few photos that i'm planning to use in
that gallery so we'll
just choose one of them as the cover
photo
and go ahead once that is done you can
use the focal point
option to decide where the visual center
of your picture will be
which then will affect the crop and how
your picture is displayed in the art
main page if you're happy with how the
crop turned out then we can head over to
the photos section
this section is pretty much self
explaining here you can upload all the
photos that you would later on
like to be displayed in the individual
gallery you can do that by hitting the
plus icon which opens a
pop-up where you can drag and drop in
your files or select them directly from
the folder
i'm just going ahead and select all the
pictures that i had in the mood folder
except the thumbnail and hit open to
start the upload
this process might take a while but keep
in mind that you do not have to wait
till the very end
of all the high res photo uploads to
keep setting up your gallery
so let's continue and head over to the
actual gallery setup
here we have a few things that will take
a bit more time to get done
first you can decide if you like to have
your photos of water
marked or not so i'll leave that open
for now
then there's the seo description that
can help to market your print store to
potential customers
this could be something as simple as hi
this is the official
print store of
till darling in this super simple
example you would have combined the
search term print store with your name
so people would maybe be able to
find it a bit better but hey seo
optimization is a bit much for this
video so we'll just
keep it as is and you can look into that
yourself later on
so we've got two things left price lists
and email packages
setting up your first price list can be
a bit complex but if we just head over
to
the default price list then things are a
bit easier to understand
in your default price list you can see
all the products that could be displayed
in the shop
all of the products that are checked
right now which is by default everything
are also available in the store so to
make the beginning a bit more simple
let's just
uncheck everything except the metal
prints and by clicking on the icon we
get some more options that we can adjust
you can see from the beginning there are
three different versions of the metal
prints that you can offer
high gloss mid-class and satin within
the different versions you can also
offer them
in different formats and sizes by
default once again
every option is checked and thereby
offered in the store just to simplify it
a little let's imagine that you have
only one
art gallery with one photo that you
would like to sell and it's a square
format that you would like to offer
in two different sizes to do this we
would by default uncheck
everything first and then just select
two versions
of square prints that we would like to
offer in the store
now you only have one thing left to do
and that's deciding what the actual
store price will be
to make that a bit simple to the left
you have the cost of the production
and to the right the actual profit that
you would make with every single sale
depending on where you are in your
career right now and what profit margins
you would need to you can either
increase or decrease the sales price
once that is done and you're happy with
your selection just hit apply
now you've updated your default price
list and now that we've updated the
default price layer
hey now that we've updated the default
price list we can head back to the
gallery setup
now the only thing that's left is the
choice of your email package
so let's have a look at that as well in
regard to the email packages pigtime has
made it quite simple for us
by marking everything with a red dot
that's relevant for art galleries
so let's just go ahead and check
everything and then head back to the
gallery setup
all right we're done here so let's head
over to the art gallery tab
here's no time to add the products to
the store that we actually have been
choosing earlier in our default price
list
and there are two options of doing that
if you hover over the plus icon then you
can see that you can either
add the products individually or go for
a whole batch as we have been uploading
multiple photos to the gallery it makes
the most sense to
add them all at once to do so go with
the badge add
option and then select all the photos
that you would like to be
later displayed as products in the store
once you selected all of them
just click continue now you can see that
we can only continue with the two
options that we made available in the
default price list if you remember we
were choosing two versions of square
metal prints so let's just select both
of them
and click continue in the third step you
have a few things to fill out first the
item name
then if you want to use the photo that
you've uploaded as a product image
a description of the product and if it
is a limited edition item
to not bore you with that process let me
just quickly fill out all necessary
information
as you see for now i only filled out the
item name because the item
description is not necessary to continue
but you shouldn't skip that step
and make sure to do that before you hit
continue in the fourth and last step you
can review the actual product details
how you want it to be named
if you want to use a product image or
use the photo that you've uploaded
and if in any case you need some extra
description
you can also individually adjust the
price of this batch of products
if necessary if not then just click done
it might take some time but right now
you're adding your first product to the
store
if the process is done you can see the
default outlay of your first gallery
if you would like to make some visual
adjustments just hover over style and
choose your
background color and if you want to you
can basically adjust every item on the
page by choosing a different grid you
will affect the arrangement of the
individual products
if you would like to put some more
emphasis on a certain picture just hover
over it and then
drag the handlebars to adjust the size
just be aware that the size adjustment
only works in the special grid and not
in the ones with two or three columns to
rearrange the photographs within the
grid just simply drag and drop them to
the place where you
prefer them to be at last you can also
add a cover photo
or cover video by editing the title area
everything you write down in the text
box there will later
appear as a description right below the
title and next to your cover photo
or cover video once you're done with
that once again hit apply and we can
continue
now we went through all the parameters
that we can adjust in the individual
galleries so let's just head on
and then make sure to set the status of
the individual gallery from
offline to online so it's time to have a
look
on how things are coming together on our
main art page
as you see it's still pretty empty here
but now is the time
to add a few more individual galleries
and then use the same stylistic tools
that we went through earlier
to adjust the main page as well i
promise you this will take a bit of time
but let us have a look at how
things could turn out well once you
published everything
this is pretty much how your main art
page and thereby also your shop landing
page
could look like in the top corner you
have the social media sharing options
a shopping cart and then your general
description
as well as the individual galleries so
far i've only been uploading four
galleries as i did not want it to be
too crowded even though a lot of
pictures look quite good i don't think
that it's necessarily all
worth to be printed in that regard i
only went with my absolute personal
highlights of the last year
and captured that if we have a look at
the individual gallery you see that i
at least took a few seconds to upload a
cover photo
and write a short description although i
still have some room for improvement
there
the hardest part for me wasn't
necessarily the selection of the photos
but
rather which products i should offer if
we have a look at the drop down menu you
can see that i
took quite a few options of the canvas
prints as well
as some white frames and semi-gloss
prints
i personally thought that these three
products would be the ones that
i would desire to buy of an artist but
i'm obviously
not sure what you would actually like so
just leave me
a comment and then we can see if we
brought in the future product line
this is pretty much it but there's still
two things that we should have a look at
before
you can get going the first thing is
that once you've set up your main art
page there is this little share button
in the upper right corner
once you click it there is an integrate
button and if you follow that one
you get a few different options to embed
your pick time store
in a different web presence depending on
which options you choose the text down
here will change
but as i do not have a squarespace
website nor a wix website we can
just go with the code that's already
there just go ahead with command a
and command c to highlight and copy all
of it
in your web editor you can just use the
plain text module edit this one and
paste the integration code
once you're done just refresh the page
and everything should be working
if everything was successful then now
the pig time main art page
should be displayed on your website
and well then you still need to tell
people that you just created your own
print store
you know the social media work there's
pretty much no way around it and in that
regard
there's a link to my and in that regard
the link to my shop is in the
description
if you see something you like just go
ahead i heard that calendars and canvas
prints are pretty good gifts
you know now that you're a shop owner
and you can sell your own prints i hope
that
lifts you are to a whole new level and
if you enjoyed the video make sure to
give it a thumb
up and we'll see you soon
[Music]
