hi my name is on zazic and this is a
National Geographic Traveler magazine
and here on the first page this is my
photo so in this video I'm gonna tell
you seven tips how to get published in
National Geographic
okay so tip number one know the magazine
I believe that the very first thing is
to know the magazine inside out meaning
you should have been reading a magazine
for a while to have a basic
understanding what kind of photos they
usually publishing and what kind of
photos they might be looking for
secondly it's knowing the rules the
magazine is usually following in the
case of National Geographic it is no
manipulation with the image or any
objects in the image whatsoever which
means that there's no photoshopping
allowed ok so tip number two take a
relevant photo and this might sound very
obvious but what I mean by that is to
take your knowledge about the magazine
and about those images they are usually
published and transform it to ideas how
to make your image better and therefore
most field before being published if
you're interested in my thinking process
about my image that I got to published I
have a separate video on that I put a
link in the description of this video
ok so tip number three safe and bake up
your file
meaning make sure to keep the original
file because the very first thing they
asked me to do when they contacted me
for the first time was to send them the
raw original file this is probably for
them to make sure that I'm not
manipulating the image in any way so it
can be actually published
ok so tip number four upload it and this
is a very classic nobody will discover
your photos on your computer or in your
hard drive so put it online and there's
actually a dedicated National Geographic
platform very similar to Flickr or 500px
and this is definitely the place where
you're most likely to be discovered by
National Geographic editors I put the
link of this platform in the description
ok so tip number five take it correctly
so the tagging process on the National
Geographic platform is way more complex
than for example on Instagram where you
can just warm it bunch of hashtags here
there are pretty strict character limits
for each field and you have to fill out
the title
- takes the description and then select
three categories where your photo fits
in I believe I don't have to stress how
important this step is for someone else
to discover your photos
okay so tip number six be patient at
this point you cannot really do anything
with the photo days already uploaded
however what you can do is to interact
on the platform so you can hopefully
bring some attention to your profile and
to your photos and hopefully some people
will pick your photos as they favorite a
very good sign is when National
Geographic editors will select your
photos as their favorite which for me
was a game changer when I actually
realized that something's happening okay
so tip number seven repeat
there are hundreds and hundreds of
photos uploaded online every day which
makes it super hard to stand out my
point of view on this is that I'm trying
to enjoy the whole process and I see
being published only as a super special
icing on a cake thank you for watching
