what's going on cardbusters welcome back
to the second episode in my series
helpful tips and tricks in the trading
card hobby today i will discuss the best
ways i have found to sell sports from
trading cards and these practices help
me make surprising amounts of money to
further put into the hobby if you aren't
already make sure to like the video

video to anyone that might find this
information helpful
when it comes to selling my sports cards
there are a few methods i consistently
use that i found effective
these include facebook groups card shows
in person deals with friends and
regulars and surprisingly my favorite
ebay
while there are other ways to sell your
cards such as putting them up for
consignment or utilizing other websites
such as myslabs and starstock i don't
have much experience with these methods
so they will not be included in today's
video
when i want to sell my cards i first ask
myself this very simple but important
question what type of card am i trying
to sell this question becomes the basis
in determining which method to use to
sell my cards the two most common types
of cards include the bangers in other
words the big hits i've hit from brakes
or rips that i will want to ask a lot
for or the more common second genre of
cards the lower end cards that are just
lying around
to your surprise the lower end cards are
where the biggest returns are when it
comes to selling cards
speaking first to the bigger hits what
i've noticed is that large expensive
cards need exposure to bring in the
highest offers as such they do well in
facebook groups in person transactions
to serious collectors and ebay the more
eyes hype and traffic brought to your
car the greater chance you will find the
right buyer
on the other hand car shows in my
personal opinion are the worst place to
sell big raw carts at card shows vendors
will offer anywhere between 50 to 70
percent of a car's value at best using
the lowest recent comp in that case i'd
rather try to sell the car myself for a
higher profit
fine
i'll do it myself
car shows however are good if you are in
need of cash or if you are looking to
trade
facebook and ebay are great options for
big pulls as they promote exposure to a
large amount of people
in the best case scenario this exposure
leads to an in-person deal to a serious
collector another strategy which depends
highly on the condition of your cards of
course is grading this can significantly
increase the value of the card depending
on the returning grade
for example back in december 2020 i
pulled a pink prism joe bro autograph
card with an estimated value of around
750 to 1 000
after sending it to get graded which
cost around 200
both the auto and card grade came back
at 10 which eventually led to a
successful sale in person for four
thousand five hundred dollars make sure
to click the link in the icon in the
corner above to see me sending this
exact card off the psa
however let's face it you aren't going
to pull a prism joe bro rookie auto
every day
so what are you going to do with the
rest of the 98 of the cars that you have
piling up in your closet and dozens of
shoe boxes
if they're just sitting there they
aren't really doing you any good so your
savior is going to be these three simple
letters
pwe
yep ebay standard envelope personally
has been a game changer when it comes to
selling my cards if you aren't already
using ebay standard envelope i will show
you exactly how i make a surprising
amount using this method ebay standard
envelope is a shipping method that has
been implemented by ebay within the last
year which enables the seller to sell a
trading card valued at 20 or less
through a tracked plain white envelope
the beauty of ebay standard envelopes is
both in the tracked feature as well as
the profit opportunity mitigated by
shipping costs let me explain
say i have this tom brady insert i want
to sell for four dollars before i needed
to ship cars through stamped envelopes
and these orders did not have any
tracking
not only did this lead to several orders
becoming lost in the mail it also
significantly hurt my ebay seller level
which i will briefly touch on later
consequently if i wanted to keep a good
standing with ebay with track packages i
would need to send the card in a bubble
mailer which costs about four dollars
this would make the price of the base
brady insert go from four dollars to
potentially eight dollars before tax and
with tax a cheap four dollar car now has
become ten dollars plus
however with ebay standard envelope the
same four dollar brady insert can be buy
it now at five dollars before tax which
is much more attractive to a potential
buyer leading to much greater sales
if you haven't tried shipping through
the ebay standard envelope method it's
simple types of cars i have found
especially effective through this method
include parallels number cars or popular
insert sets
these cars are highly desirable and are
especially liquid with the collectors of
specific players or sets
using my phone i'll first find a similar
sold listing of the card then click sell
one like this
next i'll upload pictures i have taken
and then change the shipping option to
pwe and charge the buyer dollar which
takes into account the 53 cents for
postage as well as tape the envelope and
printing costs and that's it as simple
as that
usually i'll spend 30 minutes to an hour
to go through a small stack of cards and
list as many as possible i find it most
helpful to find a system to listing
these cards such as taking all the
pictures first then listing each card
one by one
further i use the same background mat so
buyers will know that a card is from my
account without even opening the listing
something i have learned from dc sports
87
so if you see the iconic white pikachu
mat you will know that this is my ebay
account
once you have received the sale it is
now time to find and ship the card
i would like to emphasize this point of
selling make sure to have a system of
organizing and finding your cards
in the past i wouldn't be able to find
certain cars that i sold and as a result
i had to cancel orders this also hurt my
seller performance level to where the
fee taken for my sales was higher than
normal while i won't go too in depth
into it all you need to know is that
ebay will deduct an additional four
percent fee from each sale if you have a
lower than spectacular performance level
to avoid this the best method i have
found is using empty pokemon etb boxes
and categorizing cards based on sport
this way i put the cards i have just
listed into the boxes and i know where
to quickly find them once the sale is
made after finding the card i'll put the
card in a top loader or card saver for
thicker cards and apply a small amount
of painters tape and tape it to a half
sheet of paper from the printed label
the size is surprisingly perfect
another point of emphasis is to only use
painters tape when packaging cards
painters tape is not tacky so will not
only prevent any unwanted sticking to
the card but also make the unpacking
process much easier for the buyer
once the card is secured and sealed all
you have to do is tape the proper
shipping label on it and you are all
done
within the past month i've made over 230
dollars net profit strictly on cars
under the ebay standard envelope method
as such i highly recommend using this
method to make profits in the often
neglected lower end cards of the hobby
my last point is how to get inventory
for selling these lower end cars if
you're like me and rip a ton of product
just go back into your bulk and pick out
potential listable cards again pick out
parallels numbered cars and popular
players through the selection process
and list these cars for four to five
dollars before shipping you'll be
pleasantly surprised on the number of
sales you will make
another way to amass inventory is to go
through bargain bins or dollar bins at
car shows or your local card shop
this practice is the foundation to car
collector 2's business model as his
focus on dollar bins can attribute to
his success today in his store and
business
hopefully you're able to find something
helpful in this video to help you in the
selling aspect of the hobby i will link
my ebay in the description and if any
card under the ebay standard envelope
shipping method interests you send a
message that you came from youtube and
i'll give you a 20 discount on any card
until the end of the month
anyways until next time good luck on
your sales and i look forward to seeing
you in the next video peace
