so you told us previously that you were
going to be doing this anymore correct
and you just sold the dog last week to
had parvo to a woman she gave it back to
you correct you remember this
Gustavo Gonzalez is no stranger to our
Fox 11 cameras you've done this before
you know why we're here yes selling sick
puppies is illegal and immoral this was
back in March that's when a fox 11
investigation found that Gonzalez had
sold dogs with parvo to unsuspecting
customers responding to his craigslist
ads she was really lethargic and didn't
want to eat then all said it wasn't even
standing up it was parvo and I lost her
six days after I purchased her victims
said Gonzalez wouldn't refund their
money
stop taking calls and even changed his
number nice to meet you brother but Fox
11 tracked him down trying to sell
puppies in a South Bay parking lot while
he was using a fake name and reporter
Gigi Gracia confronted him at the time
he gave us his word he would stop I'm
done with this that's it you're done
selling dogs yeah mm-hmm honestly like
but just one month later in April he was
back at it again on Craigslist so we set
up another sting this time he had a new
name I'm done our investigative team
confronted him yet again I'm using the
same one no you used Joshua to her
Daniel was the last one in you're
Gabriel and it would appear that
Gonzalez has been a busy man ever since
then we've spent months investigating
and we've learned he's now in the
business of selling french bulldog
puppies that he keeps at a home in
Hermosa Beach he's got his own website
and advertises on Instagram selling
Frenchie puppies for up to $5,000 each
every time I think about it I just I
feel very very upset and very sad this
woman asked us to hide her face because
she's embarrassed she says after seeing
his online ads she met up with Gonzales
at a Hermosa Beach Park back in October
and bought a Frenchie puppy from him for
$2,500 after just four
two hours she started having diarrhea
and overnight it got worse and then
early in the morning it became bloody
she says a vet suspected the puppy had
parvo so she called Gonzales up he
knowingly sold us a puppy that had been
exposed to other sick puppies
she says she demanded that Gonzales come
pick up the dog immediately and that
after he did she googled him and found
Fox Levin's past stories about him oh my
god was he trying to do this to us
that's when she contacted us and our
undercover producers were back on the
trail once again we immediately reached
out to Gonzales to play the part of
interested buyers and we set up a meet
at a park he showed up with an apparent
new business partner how's it going I'm
bill nice to meet you nice to meet you
Gonzales and his partner proceeded to
show us several Frenchy puppies for sale
each one of them with a price tag of
thousands of dollars like where do you
guys get them from different breeders
we're like brokers and we breed
ourselves okay yeah gosh keep in mind
it's illegal to sell puppies in a public
space like this when I gave the signal
our cameras moved in well guys I want to
let you guys know my name is Bill
Malucci and I'm a reporter with Fox 11
okay I think you probably know why we're
here right yeah we've confronted you
about this two times already man yes and
just last week this happened again
so why what's the explanation
well it's it's an important story man
you put them in the car please like what
why are you guys selling sick puppies
where are you getting them from it's not
they get sick like people they said the
puppies have their vaccinations that
they have all the necessary paperwork
and that perhaps the customer was to
blame for the puppy sickness I'm the new
environment or chief at Attica
you know things that's part of her house
yarn Gonzales admitted he didn't have
his Breeders license at the time of this
interview and remember when he told me
this and we've read ourselves now it
became you know we don't breed him and
he insisted he does not sell sick
puppies we know that you had sick dogs
before that have died yeah and we know
that you've promised to stop doing this
and here we are again now I'm doing it
legally you're not yet though okay
I understand that but I'm not setting
sick boxer when we showed video of the
confrontation to the woman she was
furious just makes me sick just looking
at this guy and the other kid
Gonzales put the dog he sold to the
woman right in front of our cameras
claiming that she was perfectly fine
yeah that's the one and keep in mind
just moments ago when he thought we were
buyers
he was willing to sell her to us without
disclosing that she had been sick talk
to the lady so she told me the dog
wasn't doing good I went to her house
picked up the dog he told me he gets his
eight week old Frenchie puppy shipped to
him from breeders all around the country
that he finds on Facebook he says this
batch is from Mississippi and Colorado
and he claims he's cut off all contact
with the previous breeders who were
giving him sick dogs I don't work with
those people anymore now I want you guys
to know that we do not work with
Craigslist people
or random people on the street like I
said we have all their health records
AKC paperwork a year guarantee a
contract no wefts you know if I could
look directly at you into everybody
watching this and just say don't buy
puppies over the Internet
don't buy puppies over Craigslist
Madeline Bernstein is the president of
SPCA Los Angeles she says people who buy
dogs online may not realize they could
be buying a pet that has been weaned
much too early and that it jeopardizes
the pet's health nobody should go
through this no one should go through
this I'm like done you guys are wasting
your time I'm wasting my time as you can
see hey what's the problem now the
confrontation with Gonzales lasted for
around 30 full minutes and his story
changed multiple times he initially said
he does breed the dogs then you heard
him say he doesn't he said they were
vaccinated then said some of them work
he told us they were eight weeks old
then said some of them were actually
younger than that but if that's the case
he broke the law here in California and
if the puppies being sent to him from
other states were younger than eight
weeks he likely broke the law in that
state as well Laura Christine well your
heart goes out for these little puppies
how can it continue and more importantly
how can you make it stop well that's a
good question uh given that this is the
third time we've tried to stop him in
the past year it's going to be difficult
to do all the experts we're talking to
say he is breaking laws you can't you
know you can't sell them in a public lot
like that he doesn't have the right
paperwork when we interviewed him he
didn't have his Breeders license and if
he is getting these dogs basically
imported to him from other states and
they're possibly under way eight weeks
old that's illegal in those states as
well so it's really gonna be up to law
enforcement to step up and do something
and doing these stories we're hopefully
putting a spotlight on it lots of video
on him out plenty of video right all
right thank you very much
