carpet sharks weasels woozles fragrant
ramen fur noodles and stinky slinkies
there are so many names which accurately
describe what it's like to keep ferrets
but my friend haley of the modern ferret
summed it up the best
birds are pure joy and i couldn't agree
more i've been keeping ferrets for a
long time now hunting ferrets foster
ferrets tiny ferrets solo ferrets and
special ferrets
[Music]
you may be familiar with my two ferrets
dobby and niffler they've been with me
for years now and we've had a ton of fun
but they're both getting older and they
love each other's company so i felt the
time was right to start looking for a
new ferret friend to add to the family
so that when the inevitable happens
neither dobby or niffler will be left
without company fun fact a group of
ferrets is called a business or a
busyness of ferrets so my search for a
young male ferret begins
mr shah can i help you hi um yes i was
just wondering if you have any ferrets
in stock
uh we don't have animals at this
location
[Music]
please have babies
hi um i was just calling to see if you
have any ferrets in stock
at this location we do not carry any
live animals
thank you so much
okay bye-bye
you may not know this but the usa is
currently recovering from a ferret
shortage the reason why there was a
ferret shortage in 2020 was because
there was this
thing that happened in 2020 which shut
down a lot of the world and continues to
do so to this day well ferrets were in
very short supply because ferrets are
one of the only creatures which can
catch the human flu and so a lot of
ferrets were sent away to laboratories
for testing only now at the end of 2021
are ferret stocks beginning to return to
normal but at extremely inflated prices
weeks passed with no luck trying to find
a ferret but then one night right before
bed i submitted an application on
petfinder for the first ferret that
popped up in weeks and that was noodle i
went to go and visit him the very next
day
okay this is a beautiful
adoption center it's so clean there's
quail
behind me over there but who i'm here to
see
is
noodles awesome
he's so playful oh my god
but he hasn't been up on petfinder for
that long has no he just got made
available um he was brought in by animal
control
um they bring us animals and
circumstances where like the owner was
arrested they're homeless
they were evicted there was like an
accident or they're in the hospital so
he was brought into under one of those
noodle did we just have the best play
time ever my goodness i think we did
um so i just want to bring you around
and let you know this is such a
wonderful rescue
over here um they have guinea pigs
and they have some sliders the sliders
just climbed out to do his thing there's
also like a little
reptile
enclosure that's set up just in case but
they don't have any snakes right now
and my guinea pigs hi
there are also some kitties these are
really wonderful there's also a catio
outside where they can go outside and
get some outside time just a really
wonderful rescue so if you are
interested please check out the
foothills animal rescue
or animal shelter rather they're doing
such amazing work and everybody cares so
much about all the animals hello
sweetheart oh i would call you pear
because you look like a pear
you do you're shaped like a pear me too
me too
you you look like the uh
the guinea pig from dr doolittle yeah
like rodney so with um noodle what i did
is i found out a bit about his
background as much as possible i asked
about um the sort of vet checkups he's
had um if he's had any kind of like
health issues while he's been here if we
know whether or not he's had a history
with other ferrets so that's really
great he's breaking my heart right now
he's looking he's looking out so
intently trying to find someone to play
with hi i'm still here
hi
are you all tired out were you jumping
everywhere and having the best time
were you
are you having the best time
oh my goodness
oh my goodness hi
i hear my new baby
you're my new baby
you are
are you itchy oh my goodness
are you lying on your balls
oh he's so sleepy now
but before we go any further with

down lost pets following natural
disasters and then reunites them with
their families and it's so wholesome but
you're not wholesome cause you're a
ferret and ferrets are
just little bandits and if you're like a

msotic thank you so much to
curiositystream for sponsoring today's
video and now back to our video our meet
and greet was perfect i knew he'd be a
great fit for dobby and niffler but i
wanted to make sure that i was ready so
i made sure that my application was
secure and finalized and i left him at
the shelter for another 24 hours so that
i could go home and prepare a quarantine
area the next month it's finally today
it is the 30th of october saturday um
it's just gone 1pm and i'm literally
just about to throw my clothes on and go
and pick up my new ferret baby um his
name is noodle
i have his quarantine room set up which
is where i am actually filming this from
i'm going to give you a little tour of
how his quarantine looks um right before
we go and pick up my new ferret
so this is actually in my writing room
but it is technically now the quarantine
room um and over there we have my little
keeper he's also very excited for the
new arrival he definitely understands
what's happening today because he knows
the word for ferret and he loves dobby
and niffler and he knows that this cage
means ferrets and i always let him know
when there is a ferret coming and that
he has to wait for the ferret so he's
waiting for a ferret which is very cute
um this is the enclosure i have set up
now um there is a hole at the bottom
because this is actually part of a two
story and this is the top part of a
two-story enclosure um and over here is
where you put a tunnel to go down to the
other one to the bottom which would be
underneath it um but i was super lazy
and didn't want to rummage in the garage
for the bottom half of the enclosure so
we're just using the top half and i will
just clean up whatever mess is on the
floor um underneath that little hole
afterwards um this is one of my spare
blankets i love these i get these all
the time from walmart they're just so
great because ferrets love anything
fleecy to sleep in and what i'm going to
do is i'm actually going to go to
petsmart or petco a bit later on today
right after picking him up and getting
him brand new toys brand new
hammocks so that he doesn't have to use
any from my other ferrets because as
much as i don't want him to pass
anything to my ferrets i don't want my
ferrets to have some kind of a bacteria
he's not familiar with and for them to
transfer to him so all new things are
coming this is eventually going to go up
there and then there's going to be a
nice like velvet couch there with a
footstool and a little tv over here but
um that's for another day it's not a
house tour although speaking of ferret
since this is a fair video
oh geez from this channel might
recognize who this is i say who this is
because
this um is bear bear my old ferret and
his ashes are in there and i thought
what a great way to bring
a new ferret life into the room by
having my old favorite my very first
watch over him so without further ado
let's go and pick up our new navy ferret
is there gonna be a ferret
where's the ferret
where is he
where is the ferret
yeah he's gonna go in there cool boy
should we um
go and get the ferret come on let's go
good boy
oh this is so exciting okay through
those doors is my new baby ferret and
i'm gonna go get him it's noodle time
shout out to all the service dogs of the
world do a good turn daily
it's adoption day how exciting are you
ready to come home
yeah
let's get you out of here not that it's
a bad place to be this has been a
wonderful place for you such a great
rescue yes
noodle is officially in the car and i'm
on my way home and they gave me this
little welcome pack on the inside there
is his rabies tag i'm not going to show
you all the numbers on it just in case
there's sensitive material
but i'm really excited thank you so much
to everybody at the foothills animal
shelter because i am just so bursting
with joy and love for him i know
everybody has been so invested in him
and his journey and i'm so excited to
bring noodle home thank you so much
we got a noodle we got a noodle we got a
noodle we got a noodle of course i had
to stop off at a petco just to pick up a
couple of supplies for noodle i wanted
him to have brand new items and that way
they can be short of being super clean
there was also a really cute baby ferret
in the store just by chance but i'm
really glad that i adopted
so i picked up a bunch of different toys
i actually really prefer cat toys as
opposed to the rodent toys because you
know ferrets are not rodents and rodent
toys are not suitable for ferrets so
with supervision i find that cat toys
are a lot more suitable
i literally just got home from the
foothills animal shelter and from petco
and as much as i would love to bring um
noodle out right the second we have to
set him up first all of this is brand
new um i didn't want to introduce any
kind of pathogens from my ferrets that
he might not be familiar with or any
bacterias that might upset him even
though my ferrets are vaccinated and
healthy you just don't want to chance it
so
new bed
a new hiding place
new toys some of which are going to be
out here and also actually very
importantly
where did i put it
aha
this because you see this gap under the
door
not only can a ferret get under there
but husky paws could find their way
underneath now my regular ferret room
downstairs is completely fair proof the
dogs cannot get in and even if the
ferrets escape their enclosure they have
another barrier so they can't just go
wandering throughout the house because
weirdly a lot of the house has like
lifted weird angles on the doors so in
order to ferret proof the room a little
bit more i have got this adhesive strip
which um the red is the adhesive so i
guess it goes around this way um it goes
on the door and then it takes away the
gap so it's not going to be completely
ferret proof but it will at least buy me
a couple of moments
since he'll never be out in this room
unattended
there is no more gap under the door
although what i would say is that this
is a rubbery texture and i've always
found that every single ferret that i've
ever had has been obsessed with rubbery
textures so that's why he'll also not be
left unattended in this room because he
could chew on that and then ingest it
and it could cause poisoning or an
impaction and in case you were wondering
impaction is just a more fancy word for
a blockage okay first things first we're
gonna sort these into enclosure and out
of enclosure this is an out of enclosure
this is the super three-way tunnel which
i already have two of but again i'm not
going to be swapping bacterias at this
point these will be in the enclosure
these are water and food bowls i really
love these
in terms of water because they offer a
lot more hydration than a traditional
bottle the traditional bottles which you
mount on the outside of an enclosure
with the little stainless steel bar with
the ball stopper at the end
they they're okay for some animals um
they're good at not producing a mess but
i personally find that they don't offer
ferrets the adequate uh hydration that
they need because they drink a lot
remember they are obligate carnivores
and as such their food is very salty um
so they need to be able to process that
uh this is adorable
i've never seen it before this is
definitely gonna be an out of enclosure
i was gonna say an out-of-body
experience it's also definitely an
out-of-body experience
that's that's now my new sleep paralysis
demon
a hammock that's going to be inside
enclosure and then this is the main
hammock that's more kind of like a
lounging one this is more of a security
hammock because it can um provide more
shelter for the ferret so this is gonna
be inside uh this is outside enclosure
and then these are going to be again
outside
and
these ones look like they could
potentially i'm not sure about this one
with the
feather but these could go inside the
enclosure i feel maybe not this one with
the rope i'll have to see how i feel
about that but i do have some colorful
balls downstairs which are very safe for
ferrets and of course ferret food
this is not my favorite kind of ferret
food in terms of kibble but in terms of
what he has been offered and what he is
used to this is what he would be on
either this or kt which is a very
similar similar formula and i don't want
to rush in and upset his stomach he's
had a heck of a couple of days so i'm
sure that he will appreciate having a
familiar scent in his enclosure a
familiar food to eat and then of course
we have carefresh small pet bedding a
lot of people hate me for it and say why
don't you just stick to fleece i don't
like using fleece especially when um
litter trays get knocked over um i
prefer for a ferret just to go in a
designated corner um you can have
a litter pan i personally find they get
flipped up a lot so i don't even bother
with litter pans it's up to you if you
do want to uh litter train your ferrets
i personally do not mind i don't feel
like it's a big deal so um i keep them
on carefresh this one is 99 dust free so
i don't have to worry about the dust but
of course if he does have any adverse
reaction to it he's sneezing a lot then
of course i will switch him just to
fleece um but this fleece is actually
going to go inside this which is going
to go in the enclosure and it's going to
provide a nice platform um on which the
food and water bowls can be
accessed okay the quarantine enclosure
is all set and ready to go i have put
the remaining toys which i don't think
are safe enough to be left unattended
with noodle
in the basket so we can have some
outside play and by outside i mean just
here in this room and then i've put some
toys in here i've cut all the tags off
i've made sure there aren't any um like
sort of hard squeakers or anything too
um ingestible in them hopefully he's not
a nibbler but i will definitely be in
every couple of hours at the very least
to check on him and also to have play
time let's check on noodle
hello noodle
hi sweetheart
welcome home
hi
hi are you gonna come out here you can
come up
come on
come on you can do it
i'm gonna
lift you out
here we go noodle oh good boy i'm not
gonna let him run around too much here
because there's a lot of stimulation all
at once he's just gonna go straight in
here
and relax
you can get to know his surroundings
hopefully he'll choose a poop corner
hopefully it'll be this corner or this
corner i was really hoping that he'd
done a poop in his carrier which he has
not like a good boy um because then i
could put some poop and pre-designate a
corner but i'm thinking he'll probably
use this corner that's that's my
thoughts hopefully not the back there
hopefully not against the enclosure um
the uh the hidey hole
good job look at you
get up there go get it
we can get up there go on
get up there good
[Laughter]
oh we were hungry
if you get to the top there you can you
can hang out
look if you go up here
like this
there you go and there is water
good job noodle
oh my goodness
yay
oh careful
hey baby i know all that pent up energy
hopefully he'll go and chill out and go
to sleep soon um but surely this is all
really exciting new smells for him i'm
really glad that he knows how to climb
and get up to the top that's also really
great for strengthening
their biceps and strengthening all of
their lifting muscles so that's really
great he knows how to get up there now
soon he should discover his hammocks as
well
oh well that was lovely
that was a lovely big poo good for you
and a pee yay
two hours later oh intrepid explorer
what's this oh my
is that so exciting these are tunnels
what
what
oh no
oh no
he's cringed
out of my shoe
thank you
what
[Laughter]
[Music]
no
hey
[Laughter]
all right little one i'll be back to
check on you in
about 45 minutes okay
all right i think we're good
so i just want you to know
that noodle
is literally sleeping with his eyes open
leaking out of the little hidey hole
that i have for him he has been using
like the goodest boy
just that one corner i'm gonna have to
go in and clean it after this video but
hey three here's noodle you can't climb
up there don't bite my ears now just so
you know ferrets can be nippy it's not
always to be nasty they're just very
inquisitive and noses lips and earlobes
especially are very
juicy and enticing to ferret so i'm
going to make sure he doesn't nibble too
hard anywhere you oh you're hanging out
don't don't fall don't fall there you go
get your balance get your balance you're
good i won't let you fall mama won't let
you fall
you're good
all right there you go you're doing so
well look at oh
like i said mama won't let you fall
yeah there you go you can you can just
chill there what a good boy noodle
[Music]
hi noodle boy all right i'm gonna put
him on the floor because i don't want to
restrict him too much i want to have
just positive interactions with him and
i don't want him to feel like i'm uh
stifling his bouncy creativity because
he has a very bouncy ferret there you go
jenna chase that that's that's a lot of
fun you can chase that
oh there he goes first of all now that
i'm finally sitting down it's been a few
days since i adopted noodle i adopted
him on a saturday
i adopted him officially on friday but i
picked him up on saturday today is
tuesday so he's been home for a couple
of days now in that time all i've been
doing is letting him settle into this
quarantine room this is essentially my
spare bedroom but um there's nothing
going on in here that's particularly
interesting so i just figured it's a
good quarantine room it's way in a
completely different part of the house
it's literally two stories up from where
the other ferrets are and i'm making
sure to wash my hands really thoroughly
in between feeding and changing them or
playing with them because quarantine
procedures i don't want to introduce any
kind of bacteria from him or the rescue
but it was a beautiful shelter it was
very clean i have no worries about that
just to be completely upfront about that
but it's just to be very safe initially
i had a few worries about noodle because
of his coloration he has a really
interesting coloration and i've
consulted with a few of my favorite
friends they think he could be some kind
of a panda mix ferret um in which case
something to look out for is wardenberg
syndrome wardenberg syndrome is quite
common in so many ferrets but it's so
preventable
woodenberg syndrome manifests itself
through
deafness partial deafness blindness a
kind of swollen looking head and eyes
set a little bit further apart than you
would normally see on a normal well-bred
or healthy ferret um and it's typically
due to breeding for certain colorations
and patterns and traits for example the
blaze is very well um connected to
woodenberg syndrome as is the panda
coloration sometimes it can also affect
marked whites um so i definitely was
worried about that but it's very clear
to me
that noodle does not have any kind of
deafness because he hears everything
he's selective and what he wants to hear
but he does hear everything and i
noticed that especially when i've just
been still in the room and then i'll
pick up this
then i'll pick this up which is super
crinkly
and as soon as i shake it um even if his
back's turned he'll like jump around and
come running to me
to go and play inside that tunnel so i
know that he is not deaf which is
wonderful okay i'm going to take the
camera off the tripod and slink down
onto the floor and just show you the
chaos on the floor with the ferret
because um he's who you're here to see
and not me
which is totally fine but first of all i
just wanted to say a huge thank you to
the foothills animal shelter because
they do incredible work and they took
such wonderful wonderful care of noodle
while he was at their facility um he's a
very happy healthy boy and in particular
i wanted to shout out to maddie
who actually named noodle she named him
noodle also noodle boy um and uh i i had
thought about maybe changing his name to
a harry potter themed name but i know
i'm going to have plenty of ferrets in
my lifetime and there's no need to rush
that i know that maddie who looked after
noodle was very fond of him and i think
that the name noodle fits in perfectly
with dobby and nifla so now i have dobby
and niffler and noodle um so i just want
to say maddie thank you so much for
entrusting him to me he's doing great
and i hope that you'll follow along on
his journey okay i'm going to take the
camera off the tripod and slink down
onto the floor and just show you the
chaos on the floor with the ferret
because um he's who you're here to see
and not me
which is totally fine but first of all i

so i just want to say maddie thank you
so much for entrusting him to me he's
he's doing great and i hope that you'll
follow along on his journey
so noodle is currently playing on the
floor as you can see he's a very bouncy
ferret he just dances all over the place
and i really
i cannot wait to introduce him to dolby
and niffler because i think that he
would just do so well
with having some friend where have you
gone are you underneath me there you are
hello hey hey wait um my back is turned
that's that's rude that's against the
rules of play here won't you chase what
are you doing
what are you doing
oh chase that ball
oh my goodness
so
here's noodle boy noodle boy is playing
i haven't slept today so there's a
couple of pieces of his bedding that
have come out which is you know it's
fine totally normal but it's uh you know
just one of those things that comes with
ferrets this room is a bit of a pigsty
right now he's probably no more than
about eight months old um he's still a
baby um i i judge that based on his
teeth um his his coat
color um sorry not his coat color his um
coat texture it feels like there might
still be some baby fur in there um so i
can't be 100 certain he could just be a
chunk with long fur because um part of
what the information they could give me
about him was is that they thought he
might have been raised outside and that
will result in a much more plush coat
than indoor ferrets um and i've
certainly noticed this with you know
keeping my ferrets outside as opposed to
inside when i keep them in a more cool
environment um in the winter they tend
to get a much he's holding on to me they
tend to get a much more plush coat and
then inside they tend to be a lot more
short-coated and more coarse so i have a
feeling that he probably was kept
outside the only other details that they
could give me about his circumstance um
no shade to his previous owners who
clearly put a lot of love into him
but that he was an animal control
relinquishment and typically animal
control will be called when an animal is
seized due to
the owners
maybe going to prison getting evicted
or if they're hospitalized
or perhaps have left an animal behind in
a property that's a very typical case uh
for
many rescued animals you'd be amazed how
many people literally just leave their
animals behind when they leave a
property like oh you know brand new
start just yes i'll leave my animal
behind but there's no real way in
telling
what his um his
origin story is what origin story caused
you noodle
huh you crazy thing right now he is
unfortunately just by himself because um
he
cannot be introduced to dobie niffler
yet before his quarantine is up i want
to make sure that he is as healthy as he
appears to be on the outside and that
means he'll have to go for a health exam
at the vet
and um also i just want him to get a
chance to
to chill out
and um
and get all acquainted with me and build
some trust with me so he has another
week and a half ish to go before i soft
introduce him to dobby and niffler which
means in that time i am his sole
companion which means i'm spending hours
upon hours in this room which is
technically the spare bedroom and my
writing room that's his food that's not
normally there um and uh i'm his
companion because it's so sad to keep a
happy outgoing affectionate and very
social ferret um on their own they they
will really not do very well at all and
it's for that reason that i would always
recommend if you are going to bring home
a ferret please at least bring home to
um most ferrets i know there are some
special circumstances but most ferrets
will really benefit
from having another ferret in their
lives because
no one can outplay a ferret and no
person can groom a ferret the way that
another ferret can
and their play style is just so
amazingly uh unique that it really does
take a ferret another ferret to be a
great companion
to a ferret so please if you are
considering
first of all consider adopting because
as you can see there's nothing wrong
with this guy he is a great addition to
my family um
and he's going to be bringing a lot of
joy to my ferrets as well
um and also you're giving an animal
another chance um you could always go
out and buy a ferret uh right now
they're they're just recovering here in
the united states from a ferret shortage
so ferret prices are really at an
all-time high and a baby ferret in a pet
store will set you back over 200
um this guy you know his adoption fee
was something like 45 plus
another donation that i made aside from
that
and he's great because you know that i
knew what i was getting and it and that
was great because i know the temperament
of the ferret that i'm getting with a
kit you don't know if they're going to
grow up to be super social you don't
know if they're going to be a ferret
that um is going to be uh you know a
certain color they do change colors over
the course of their lifetime whereas
this guy i know exactly what i'm
guessing which is really wonderful i
like that predictability hey you
hey you
you going in your tunnel here let's
bring your elephant
here
let's bring your elephant out gosh this
thing really is the stuff of nightmares
i would love to design ferret um toys
because like this i could do so much
better than this um so hey stay tuned
maybe that will be a side venture
sometime
and maybe noodle noodle boy over here
might be one of my testers because he is
a chewer which i have discovered neither
dobby nor niffler are chewers this guy
is a chewer you going in your tunnel
he's not entirely sure about the tunnels
just yet he will sometimes go in but he
seems to prefer trying to get into the
elephant through its feet
and then coming out through the tunnel
so we'll see if he finds his way in
you're gonna go in there you go
you got it
i feel like i've known this little dude
his entire life i mean he's such a great
personality
and um
he's he's so gentle as well when he
plays you know they do get a bit mouthy
when they play and it's very important
to teach a ferret not to bite too hard
and i try and do that with positive
reinforcement
um also it's good to let out a little
squeal so they know that you've hurt
them ferrets will
vocalize to one another if they get too
rough and play too rough um so it's also
good to just you know
you know give him a little little squeak
um
but he's he's adjusting so well he's
such a delight and um
i am really glad that i made this
decision because i had been looking in
so many places and every time i came
across um little kits in a pet store i
just felt like
it wasn't the right you trying to try to
stash the tunnel
bless you
