hey guys it's megan and in today's video
i'll be showing you how to make jewelry
out of paper you guys really seem to
like these paper mushroom beads that i
made in my last paper crafts video and
that got me thinking what other types of
jewelry can i make out of paper i came
up with three more techniques for this
video
so let's just get into it the first
project i made were these origami star
earrings for this project i used some
printer paper mod podge a needle
toothpicks glitter some 20 gauge wire
and some uv resin to make the origami
stars i cut a few strips of paper that
were one centimeter wide i used printer
paper so each strip was about 11 inches
long i took one of the strips and looped
one end back around like this bring the
end of the paper through the middle of
the loop to create a knot carefully
adjust the knot until you have a
pentagon shape flip it over to the back
and tuck in the end of the paper
now go ahead and fold the rest of the
strip around that pentagon shape that we
just made this is actually pretty
intuitive you just keep folding it and
so you can't go around the star anymore
okay so like you see this little v shape
this is where you're going to tuck in
the end of the paper if the end of your
paper is too long you can trim it a
little bit before you tuck it in now to
turn this into a star you're gonna start
pinching around the corners and kind of
like rotating it as you go and
eventually the paper will sort of like
puff up to create this 3d star shape
this definitely takes some practice so
don't get too discouraged if you don't
get it right on your first try but once
you've made a couple origami stars go
ahead and poke your needle through it
like this
take the needle out then slide the star
onto a toothpick next cover the star
with a layer of mod podge this step is
super important because if you don't use
mod podge the paper will sort of like
disintegrate when you go to add the
resin i added glitter to my star to
spice it up a little but this steps
optional i stuck the beads into this
like random piece of foam that i had
while they dried after the first layer
of mod podge go ahead and add a second
one even if you don't use glitter this
step is still super important to make
sure that the whole thing is completely
sealed and after that dried i coated my
bead with a layer of uv resin this
stuff's optional but i like using resin
because it makes my beads a whole lot
sturdier plus they won't get ruined if
they get wet if you don't have uv resin
if you have a gel nail kit you can use
the top coat from that to seal it if you
want i cured that under my uv lamp then
removed the toothpick from the beads
some of them came out pretty easily but
others were a little bit of a struggle i
found it easiest to break off the ends
of the toothpick and used pliers to
remove the part that was stuck in the
middle but once that's done you have
these cute little paper star beads you
can use these just like regular beads i
turned mine into earrings by taking a
piece of wire creating a loop at the end
then adding on the paper star i put a
blue bead below that bent the wire so
that it would stay on and cut off the
excess in my last video a couple people
asked me how i made the earring posts
and this time i did do it a little bit
differently i used some amazing mold
putty to make a mold from a pair of
earrings that i already had i filled the
mold with polymer clay cut off the
excess then added another wire loop to
the bottom of the clay piece i used some
translucent liquid sculpey to secure the
wire and baked it according to the
package instructions i used more resin
to attach the earring posts to the back
of the clay and covered the top with
resin as well to finish the earrings i
used a jump ring to hang the star from
the post and here's how my finished
earrings turned out this one it
definitely had a lot of steps to it but
i love them the next project that i made
was this layered heart pendant for this
project
i used three colors of cardstock some
mod podge and some uv resin i also used
some jewelry findings to turn it into a
necklace this pendant was made by gluing
a bunch of layers of paper together you
can make these in any shape that you
want i designed and cut this on my
cricut to make it a little bit easier
but you could definitely cut this by
hand as well it just might take a little
bit more time i made my first heart the
size that i wanted my necklace to be
which was a little bit over one inch i
copied and pasted that
then shrunk it down a little bit if
you're cutting these out by hand just
make each heart a little bit smaller
than the last one and if you want like
an easier shape to do you could do
circles squares i think a diamond shape
would be cute too i didn't change the
color every time i would do about three
layers of the same color and then i
would switch it but again this is
totally up to you i ended up doing 20
layers of paper altogether but you might
want more or less depending on how thick
your paper is once i was happy with my
design i cut out the hearts using my
cricut maker like i said before you can
totally cut this out by hand i just like
using the cricut because one it makes it
look a little bit more professional and
two but i'm also a little bit lazy so
you know work smarter not harder but
once all my hearts were cut out i
started sticking them together with mod
podge i started with the largest heart
and worked my way up to the smallest one
covering each heart with more mod podge
you're going to want to do this on some
sort of non-stick surface i used one of
these dollar tree cutting mats but
parchment or wax paper will work too let
that dry for at least an hour then flip
it over and cover the back here's what
it should look like after it dries if
your paper isn't super even don't worry
about it because you can sand it down
with a nail file and here's what it
should look like so far add a second
layer of mod podge to the front and back
after you sand it then cover the charm
with some uv resin i like to start on
the back first i used an old paint brush
to spread out the resin then added a
loop that i made from this like thick
wire stuff that i got from hobby lobby
and obviously most people don't have
this so like you can also use thinner
wire or you could use these things which
are called bales
um really like anything just make it
work i believe in you but either way i
cured that under my uv lamp then covered
the front with some more uv resin oh um
gloves also would have been a good idea
here um i'm pretty sure you're not
supposed to touch this stuff but um it's
fine if you end up with bubbles in your
resin you can very carefully use a
lighter to pop them i swear like every
time i do this i feel like you know i'm
gonna have to stop drop and roll but so
far so good so i wanted to turn this
into a necklace so i slid it onto a gold
chain then added a jump ring and a
lobster clasp to either end and here's
how my finished necklace turned out i am
seriously obsessed with this i think
this is so cute it's like a little on
powerpuff girl heart like i love it the
last project that i made this week were
these paper hard earrings i've used this
technique before but i just think that
it's such a cool way to make jewelry for
this project i used some cardstock mod
podge uv resin and some earring backs
again i cut the paper using my cricut
machine but if you don't have a cricut
you can try using these paper punches
that come in different shapes or you
could even use a regular hole punch i
designed my earrings by choosing an
image in qriket design space shrinking
it down to half an inch or less then
duplicating it eight times for each
earring this really doesn't use up much
material at all and it's a great way to
use up your paper scraps after i cut
everything out i assembled each earring
by covering each heart with a layer of
mod podge stacking eight hearts on top
of each other for each earring you might
need more or less depending on the
thickness of your paper again it's a
good idea to do this on some sort of
like non-stick surface like parchment or
wax paper cover the outside of each
earring with two layers of mod podge and
when that dried i covered the back of
each earring with some uv resin then put
on an earring back you technically don't
need resin you could just glue it but
the resin will help to make your
earrings waterproof i cured it under my
lamp then poked the earrings into some
cardboard so they'd be a bit more stable
while i covered the top with more resin
stick that under your lamp one last time
and that's it you can use this method to
make things like necklaces rings and
keychains as well if you're cutting
these by hand something that's a little
bit bigger like a keychain or a pendant
might be easier to do so that was
everything for this video make sure to
let me know which project was your
favorite i think my favorite was
probably the heart necklace so thank you
guys so so much for watching i hope you
