[Music]
what's going on botsy lovers so
in this video i kind of want to do
something a little different
and kind of take the light off botsy
just for just at least for this video
this video is going to be for somebody
who's learning nfts how to do the art
where do they start
what tools should they be using
and uh exactly basically i'm going to
create a character from scratch
and i'm going to go through the entire
process from
finding reference to doing the sketches
to doing the coloring and getting
everything ready to be put up on open c
uh even also creating like certain
layers and explaining the value of
layers and rarities and things like that
so you can add value to your overall
collection so let's get started first
thing you're going to need is an ipad
this is my wife's ipad i have my other
one somewhere else because it's charging
and she's probably going to be really
upset but anyway
so she's got the new ipad she's got the
new ipad or ip
apple pencil but i guess they call it
pen i don't know i guess there might be
a pencil in the pen now i always thought
the new ones just came with pen but
anyway so we got the pen sole we got the
ipad we're going to come over here to
the app store
down here at the bottom we're going to
click search
and we're going to use a
an app
for the ipad called
procreate so let me go ahead and type
this in type in procreate for the ipad
and it's going to be right here at the
top right at least for me and if this is
your first time doing it i think it's
like 15 bucks it's a really cheap for
how great of a tool it is i think it's
better than anything that i've ever even
seen on this and have used for a while
so i'm gonna go ahead and click open
this is my wife's stuff so she's
probably gonna be upset that this is
even being shown but anyway i'm gonna
hit this little plus sign up here
and i'm going to use square which is 20
of 2048 by 2048
it's going to be a perfect square which
is going to be our canvas for us to be
able to do
our drawing so let me make sure i got
everything set
um
up here at the top we have our little
brushes we have a smudge tool we have an
eraser tool and then this is where it uh
gathers all the layers that you'll be
working in you can hit that little plus
sign you can slide it over and you can
delete layers and this is the background
layer so this is that white layer you
see right here you can just simply click
on it you can change the color to
whatever you want it to be so for right
now we're just going to make it white
i'm going to go up here to the top over
here by this little paint brush i'm
going to go all the way down to where
wait
oh not all the way down i guess on hers
it's a little up more anyway i used
inking
and then i'm going to go down here to
studio pen
and that's
my go-to this is my weapon of choice
when it comes to
doing any kind of nft art so here on the
side i'm going to bring this
this is going to be the size
of the pen that i'm using see how i can
go up i could make it a little thicker i
can bring this thing all the way to 100
which is like really big
so i'm just gonna make sure this is at
two percent so it's kind of
strong enough to be able to write
something and you guys be able to see it
clearly so and then here is the opacity
opacity is just
how much ink is coming out at one time
so if i did 100 you'll see it real dark
if i do half
50
you'll see that it's gray and if i have
none at all you won't see anything so
you always want to make sure it's at 100
at least for the line work make sure the
line work looks really crispy throughout
the whole thing
so
all right so when it comes to creating
an nft
you want to make sure that it's living
in the middle of this square
you want to do this because
if you have a character let's say right
here
you want to make sure that we have it
just kind of like a bust a profile
and the reason you want to leave a lot
of negative space is what we call it in
the art world here in here
is because later on you might want to
add maybe a hat
and you want to have enough space to be
able to put that accessory on it maybe
your character has ears or earrings or
maybe later on you want to make like
headphones
and you have to stretch it all the way
across so if you keep your character in
the middle it'll give you a lot of room
to be able to put all these extra added
accessories when it comes to maybe
shirts maybe he's got a shirt a tie a
tuxedo maybe he's later on you want to
put a jacket on him
maybe he uh
maybe he has a
certain face expression
like for the board apes for example they
kind of have one where it's kind of all
fused together
but later on you might not want to just
do a little mouth like that with a
little teeth and a little nose
maybe you want to make it kind of
stretched out and elongated like a
bigger smile on certain
certain traits of your character or
maybe a sad face but see how it kind of
elongates from the face a little bit you
have enough room on the sides to be able
to add all these things and it still
looks very
um consistent and put in the in the
center which is perfect because a lot of
the people who are going to buy your nft
art
are going to want to put it and showcase
it and almost brag about it on their
social media so it's always beneficial
to keep it in the center because this
nft
this jpeg or png file that you're going
to use is going to be something that's
going to be on somebody's twitter
somebody's instagram somebody's facebook
default profile it's just a way to
showcase so it's always better to have
it kind of like just in the center
so what are we going to do for our
character i have no idea i honestly
didn't even think about any of this i
just i'm going to just straight up this
is the first character we're going to
create i i'm used to creating boxies all
the time
but i am going to try doing something
different for you guys so you guys can
get the whole understanding as if you
were the first this is the first time
you've ever done it and you have no idea
what you're doing
uh that's what we're going at so let's
see here
i know i want to keep it in the center
so i'm trying to stay away from my botsy
design i've been doing for the last
month so i have to really think about it
let's say we want to give this person
kind of a let's say around her face
right
this little character we're going to
create here
you know what how will this let's do
something even better i'm going to go
back we're going to erase all of this
two fingers is to undo thank you guys in
the comments for teaching me that the
other day
all right so we're gonna go back over
here
we're gonna go to
and we're gonna type in
maybe a certain animal
a cute little character something that
can be very
something like that it's kind of cute
i'm gonna stay away from the apes
because
i feel like the whole entire industry is
full of apes um i haven't seen any pigs
to be real with you i haven't seen any
giraffes i've seen some goats haven't
seen any hippos
uh pugs i think i've seen a couple pugs
actually
so let's just kind of see
um
you know what for the sake of this video
let's try something crazy let's let's
try this little pig dude right
uh which one's kind of cute looking i
kind of like
i'm looking for something that's kind of
face face value like looking at me
head-on so i think something
this little guy is kind of cute let's go
with this little weirdo all right so
what i'm going to do is i'm going to
hold my finger on this we're going to
save this image
we're going to save it into my
um
my photos on my ipad
i'm going to open up my procreate we're
going to go to here to this little
wrench we're going to insert photo we're
going to pick that little pig that we
just picked off the internet
and we're going to just shrink him and
we're going to put him up at the top
left corner and this is what we call a
reference so this is something we're
going to keep pulling back and forth
from the entire time that we're drawing
because the human mind can only generate
so much
information so having something like
this helps us to really dictate what
we're going to do for our line work in
our sketch so let's go ahead and we'll
look at the base the basic so when
you're looking at something like this
you want to be able to break the image
down into different pieces very basic
shapes so we have one shape here which
would be the entire head
we have a little spot for his nose we
have two little spots for his nostrils
and then we have some ears
so we're gonna like keep continuously
breaking this thing down
until we get a really good idea
of how we want this little character to
start developing
so now that we have that information
we're going to go ahead and try to apply
it
onto the canvas itself
now the first layer is what we call a
draft layer so it's our rough sketch
layer which is basically just exactly
what it sounds like it's just a bunch of
scribbles very
messy very not put together and then the
next layer after that will make it
really crispy really defined and very
very like cartoon like so i am a
cartoonist by trade so i'm gonna try to
turn him into a cartoon without it
looking so much like a bossy so here we
go so we're gonna go right into the
middle of the image
of the canvas rather
we're gonna draw that basic shape i'm
going to do the little circle
or the big circle rather and then we're
going to take the smaller circle and
this will be for his little pig snout
and we're going to add just real quick
just for me to understand where the nose
could be his little nostrils
um for his eyes we'll just draw his eyes
over here
and over here
i'm just kind of
tightening up some of these little areas
because i know the top of his head maybe
i want to like
do some like little hair or something
like a little tussle of hair
um all right so now let's work on the
ears so he's got little pig ears
no just keep them like
maybe make it come out just a little bit
see i made a mistake right there but it
doesn't really matter because this is
the sketch layer
and it looks like his ears kind of
almost point upwards a little bit and
then right there he's got a really
see how it kind of like flips up right
there and then at the at the point of
the ears it kind of has a little point
to it so we'll make sure we add that
keeping the shapes really basic
really simple
because this is going to be our base
this is going to be our character
that we're going to be adding layers to
so the base is the most important part
of this entire project
so let's see we got this we have this
little ear kind of whips around
cool
up here at the top you see this little
thing that almost looks like the letter
s that's our select
option so we go ahead and we can go
ahead and do the marching ants
and this is basically going to cut out
that part of the ear i'm going to go
down here to copy and paste
and what it did is just copied that
exact thing that i just outlined so if
you come over here to the little mouse
clicking tool
i can literally
rotate this mirror the image and i can
drag that ear without having to draw the
other side
and just place it right over there
cool
he looks absolutely horrible right now
but he's coming together trust me all
right so we have this little pig dude he
got his little ears
i feel like i put way too much detail in
his ears so i'm just going to come back
over here
oops we're going to merge this layer
down so basically when i copied and
pasted that ear it created another layer
over top so i'm just going to merge the
layers on so this layer is all just
together it's just the outline sketch
layer
so i'm going to go over here go in here
and i'm just going to kind of loosen
this up a little bit it got a little too
messy on the details i overworked it
and we're going to simplify this even
further
let's give him
super tiny little ears
we're going to kind of round this things
up these things off
so another rule in the art world is if
you keep things rounded
it makes things cute
round things make cute things
square or square things make things more
structural
and strong
whereas
triangular things
make things almost evil
and sinister
so people like bad guys with pointed
nose or pointed facial expressions
things like that pointed skinny
narrow evil looking i don't even know
what that is the chicken anyway so
that's kind of like the rule so if you
want to keep things very cute you want
to make sure everything's really rounded
and very
yeah basically just rounded make sure
everything's really rounded these pointy
ears made them a little too sinister
i know it's just a pig but
we could round that off a little bit we
can start adding our own little
imagination to it a little bit here too
it doesn't have to be dead perfect
go ahead and clean this up a little more
and
we'll just kind of round that little ear
off and we'll just do a little loop kind
of simplify that here
quite a lot
okay
so that looks a lot better
so let's go ahead and get rid of this
practice makes perfect you don't always
get everything down the first time so
don't beat yourself up
so i like that ear a whole lot better so
again let's go to the select tool
ah okay let's grab that ear
we're gonna grab this little
mouse button up there we're gonna flip
this basically
ah freak i forgot to hit
no what button did i forget oh okay you
gotta copy and paste it first
so we're gonna cut it out
we're gonna copy and paste it
we're going to flip it
now we copied that image and now we'll
put the ear on that side
i think that's a lot better looking ear
all right
so we know that that created its own
layer so we're just going to merge all
these layers back down so where it's
just this layer again
i'm going to grab this little pig and
i'm going to kind of
drop them down
more into the center of the canvas
i'm not going to actually do the same
expression that this little pig's doing
instead let's look for something that's
kind of standing on its own like
its own like profile picture like
looking right at you like a stance a
different pose rather
so let's see
what does a little pig look like when
he's looking
kind of like right at you that's not
gonna work
let's scroll through
um
so many little pigs
all right
okay so this is kind of what a pig would
look like if i guess
we can kind of work with this it just
gives me an idea
of what the position is here so let's
see is there something that has more
face value to it it's kind of on an
angle and it's kind of looking up so i
want to make sure i find something
that's a little more straight
i guess something like this is more
not the face expression but the body the
language of his body right there we're
going to use that
so i'm going to go ahead and copy it
we're going to just hide this layer and
all you have to do is just untick this
and then all of a sudden that's gone you
can turn it off turn it on so i'm going
to create a new layer i'm going to drag
this right below my line work and on
that layer that i have blue and
highlighted
i'm going to come over here
to the little wrench tool we're going to
insert an image and we're going to grab
that image of the pig
we're going to kind of blow them up a
little bit
and we'll put them right there
and then i'm going to go ahead and open
another layer a new layer
and this is a layer that's also going to
be a scribbly rough layer that but this
is just going to be the layer just for
the proportions of the way that this
little pig is sitting
so let's see
we got them looking like this
and i'm not going to add any hooves or
anything to him or like give him little
feet
i'm just going to see what i can do
maybe
we give them like little armpits
and then
i'm going to combine these two layers so
now the head
and the body are on that same layer cool
so let's grab it using the this i
believe this is called the select tool
actually my bad guys i kept calling the
little mouse clicking tool and that's
silly
and very unprofessional
i'm pretty sure it's just the select
tool so here we go we got a little pig
dude put him there
another thing and this is a very i
almost did it myself but if i were to
bring this in it doesn't it doesn't
quite look
right so let me go ahead and
show you this you want to always make
sure it kind of comes out because little
pigs are fat and chubby
so we're gonna round this out just a
little bit
i'm gonna get rid of that little wrinkle
and this is gonna add a little bit of
weight to him so
it looks like he's got a little bit of
like little fat rolls
because i wanted to still be very piggy
piggish
here i'm gonna just bend that little
hoof in
and in this i'm gonna bend that little
hoof
cool so this is just kind of adding
little characteristics to my
my little dude
so instead of just making his arm
straight i kind of added like a little
bit of a
little elbow elbow action
kind of bend it in
and clean this up just a little bit just
so i can see when i do the hard outline
sketch
cool
make sure the proportions are right i'm
always cross-checking in my mind looking
at it
trying to see the overall image
actually i'm gonna bring this out just a
little bit more on this side
i feel like that side's more rounded and
nicer looking and this one was kind of
getting kind of skinny and narrow
i don't want my pig to look like he's
got polio
all right so we got this
we got that boom
and just for like creative sake i'm
thinking about like putting like a
little circle right here i know pigs
don't really have that but i think it'd
just be kind of cool for the character
because it doesn't have to be an exact
idea you know the pig it could be
whatever i want it to be i'm the artist
you're the artist here
all right so
we got us a nice little outline
got the little pig dude
all right so keep this i'm gonna extend
his head just a little bit more up here
and i'm just gonna clean up this little
spot right below
clean up his little nose
and be able to do this
still cleaning it up
okay i think
he looks like he's almost ready
to do the hard lines now so let's go
ahead and do an actual
over line like the outline layer on top
of this layer so what you do is you
click on this layer that i'm on now and
you're going to hit this little n
and you're going to lower the opacity
and we're going to drop that to
let's say 30 percent
i'm going to open a new layer
and i gotta make sure i got my studio
pen on
i have it set to two percent
and basically what this layer is gonna
do this layer is gonna clean up the
overall design so you see how
everything's all scratchy and scribbly
this layer is gonna be super clean the
entire time so you want to make sure
that we keep these lines very straight
so i'm going to do one complete circle
you're going to i'm going to hold it
and it's going to snap
that shape into place
so i'm thinking we should maybe do a
three percent because it's not really
showing up as much as i'd like it to so
we're gonna do three which is a little
thicker of a pen size
i'm gonna hold it all the way around
connect the two pieces hold it let it
snap
get the size i want
and just let it go and then it creates a
perfect circle
so let's go ahead and we're going to do
one eye in the same way hold it let it
snap
perfect
same thing hold it let it snap
perfect
all right and now we'll do his nose
oops
it's okay if it's a little wonky at
first because it really straightens it
out
all right so
now we're gonna do his nostrils
and we'll try to make his nostrils a
little bit big maybe let's see if we
like that idea
maybe more medium-sized nostrils
do it like that i'm gonna do it like
that
and i have a little bit of like
almost like a an egg shape and i have it
kind of tilted so it's not like a
complete circle circle
rather it's kind of a tilted little
slant on the nostrils a little bit there
it makes it a little bit more realistic
even though it's a cartoon
all right so
now let's do his shoulders we're going
to just grab the side and i'm just going
to bring it all the way to the point of
his elbow hold it let it snap
i'm going to grab it from the elbow hold
it
let it snap but i added a little bit of
an arc to it
so we got that so now let's do the same
thing for this side we're going to hold
it
to the elbow
we're going to let it snap into place
hold it again all the way to the forearm
and let that
that didn't come out too well let's try
it one more time
i just want a little bit of
idea of where that um elbow's at
i'm gonna hold that
and if you hold it like in a uh almost
like an arc or a semi-circle it'll snap
into place but the problem is if you
were to arc it too much
or make a shape that's a little no that
actually worked but
sometimes if you do a shape that's a
little like crazy jagged and like more
complex
it'll start generating its own thing
even if you didn't even want it to be so
sharp
so you got to be kind of careful of
how far you can actually bend the lines
like if i were to do something like that
watch what happens see it breaks up so
you have to make sure that when you're
doing your inking
and your line work that you only are
doing smaller shapes so it can connect
and it can register what you're trying
to do don't make it too complex
so take your time on every little piece
it as it builds the character up
so i'm gonna grab that i got it in a
slight angle how i want it
and we're going to do it just like that
all right so now let's go ahead and
we're going to go ahead and do the ears
i'm just going to do one line like this
going in
and that's it
this i'm going to bring all the way over
and then i'm going to round this part
off
and connect it
boom
one little piggy here
i'm gonna do the same thing
this is that fold underneath the ear
i'm gonna bring this around
and i have that layer right underneath
that's kind of helping me
in guiding my mind's eye on how it
should all connect
see right here i made a mistake look how
messed up that looks awful down there at
the bottom not so bad but i know this is
a complex
line
so if i were to just kind of do all this
motion
and i hold it
it's going to become something that i
don't want it to become like that how
straight it became
so what i'm going to do is i'm going to
try it one more time
see if we can get it right
bring it in
breathe home baby all right that looks
like she looks pretty good okay
so i got this little pig dude i'm trying
to see what i don't like about it um i
feel like this
that roundedness keeps the image nice
and soft the character nice and clean
and nice and chubby whereas this one
looks kinda a little too
too strong way too strong actually so
what i'm going to do is i'm going to go
to here this little eraser tool
i'm going to lower the the size of the
brush
turn up the opacity to 100 so now if i
swipe it'll automatically just take
everything away and not leave anything
behind
i'm going to go right up to this little
pig face i'm gonna be careful not to
erase any of the other lines that i've
already created
make sure we just get rid of that one
line we don't like
oh looks like i made a mistake down
there too it's okay everything a little
bit of cleanup everywhere never hurt
nobody overall i'm going to go back and
make sure it's absolutely polished
before
we add any color to it
so it's okay if we make some mistakes i
guess right now but not too many you
don't want to really screw up your your
your line work is like everything that
you're building on so we'll just cross
check the line work afterwards
so i'm gonna grab this make sure it's
got a little arc to it
and i think i like it better
like that i feel like he's more chubbier
looking and more like a pig
all right
so if i go to the layer underneath i can
delete it and now we have like the most
basic looking
clean
image that we can possibly have with
this
so i'm going to go back
into this layer and we're going to
polish it up so i see little things like
this
this little corner needs to be rounded
so i'm going to spend some time
um deleting erasing
until i make sure every little line
has a good flow to it look how wobbly
this line is see that we're going to go
back over it again
and i'm going to come back with the
eraser tool and we're just gonna
make sure we keep it as
clean as we possibly can
sometimes you gotta fatten up these
lines
just take your time don't rush anything
and don't beat yourself up if you didn't
get it right the first time like it's
it's a very
it takes a lot of patience to be an
artist and and do it
especially like
if you're really like rushing right now
like this is your first time ever doing
like nft art
you want to you're trying to jump on the
hype train you know and you're like how
in the world am i going to create all
these pieces i just learned about nfts
yesterday like i need to get something
out there i need to try try it's like
don't don't just relax just seriously
relax
take your time
people people can definitely tell when a
project is rushed when people are just
out to just make money
and when someone actually takes their
time
shows people with that you know how to
how to do things with you know when it
comes to art
like people see that stuff like people
aren't stupid you know
i would definitely not want to support a
project that i felt was rushed or you
can just tell it it's like it has no
utility or backing behind it like
it's got no following it's just you just
rushing things out throwing it in a
generator and just being like why are
you not buying my nfts you know like
i see that all the time in like facebook
groups it's like so sad
i was like that's not how you do it guys
you you gotta know it you gotta have
some kind of love for it you can't just
be an artist overnight some people have
been doing this doing artwork man like
you know 10 15 years before nfts were
cool
and for for someone to just pick it up
in a day or a week it's just not
possible
so just take your time develop on your
own your own like nfts are here to stay
guys like i'm telling you like the whole
metaverse and all that like we're here
adidas just bought some
the central land
snoop dogg's got his sandbox i mean like
people are really big celebrities big
names walmart's about to drop their own
coin and i'm sure they're gonna drop
their own nfts here soon too
just to get a little you know piece of
the pie i get it
but we're gonna make it guys we are
going to make it
so let's make sure this little arm looks
good
all right see his little nostril because
he's got to kind of darken up some of
these little lines here
and i noticed like when i'm doing my
like the robots and the boxies and stuff
like if i were to make a circle i hold
it and i spin it around actually let me
make it a little bit smaller so you can
guys can see it i'll do size too so if i
hold it and spin it around and lock it
all right that came out why every time i
try to explain something it always comes
out better than
than it it's supposed to i guess
all right so all right never mind guys
i'm sorry i'm a ding dong usually what i
was trying to say is the first little
dot you make
usually it spins around like this
and you can see
geez okay never mind right here here we
go look guys i spun this thing around
and if you notice this part's thicker
and then it gets small that's because
the pen is pressure sensitive so usually
it
it'll do that but apparently it's not
doing it anymore right here see on his
nostril how thick that line is compared
to that line if i pull it out a little
bit you can see it even more
so sometimes that happens you just got
to go in here
make sure your brush is set to like
either one or two and you're just going
to lightly just kind of fill in
and make sure it tapers back into
the line
so it kind of removes a lot of that bulk
i see one little dot i made a mistake
here
sometimes i tap the pen
and i don't realize i'm doing it and
then i have to realize i got to go back
and clean that up
his elbow see how they cross
i'm going to get rid of this
i'm going to bring that in a little bit
tighter
so he's got like a little bit of help
like a
elbow
fat roll
i'm going to make sure this one looks
the same
that line should be tucked back
underneath
boom baby
okay
so all this work just to get this little
pig going
and uh he's gonna look beautiful when
we're done
okay so we got our little design
so let's pick a background
let's just do something really light fun
i don't think it may be like a little
teal-ish kind of color cool
we all go with that we're all cool with
that all right
so we're going to hit the background
and what i like to do on my nft art is
to highlight my characters like make
them really pop
so
i'm gonna go ahead and remove i'm gonna
just close out of this little guy so he
doesn't become distracting open that top
left corner
i
that's
that's the draft
the sketch layer underneath there we're
going to keep it just in case because
sometimes depending on which way i want
to take my art sometimes it's nice to
leave a little bit of a sketch layer
underneath it adds a little bit more
like depth and value to it whereas
something that's super clean becomes
just almost too clean and too perfect
and sometimes art just doesn't have to
always be perfect so
we're going to create a new layer i'm
going to bring this one right
on top of the background layer and some
of you guys were asking in the comments
like how do you get that cool gradient
effect so it's actually super easy make
sure you pick your background color on
top you create a new layer i'm going to
just choose the color white i'm going to
go to my brushes
i'm going to go to airbrush soft
airbrush
i'm going to
low i think i wanna try to remember how
to do it i think at the 100 opacity
and then we're gonna bring the brush
size to like let's say 20 let's just see
nope a little bit bigger
let's try 40
so 40. and all you literally do guys you
just tap it like one time
done we have a cool gradient effect
behind our little pig
and since it's on its own layer you can
hit this little select tool we can kind
of move which way you want to add that
gradient i like putting it right behind
my characters because i feel like it
makes it pop
so we're going to do that right there
so we got our cool little gradient we
got our background
and i'm not going to merge those two i'm
just going to keep them just like that
and let's see
i'm going to
work on some colors now like we're going
to figure out
yeah should we do the colors first let
me see
actually let's add some characteristics
to
to our little outline so
just for safety measures we're going to
do one more layer and we're going to add
it and make things more
personalized to this character we're not
gonna fully like
immerse him in a bunch of layers and
hats and shirts or anything like that
we're just trying to get the base layer
for our character
so
let's just do something like it's very
simple like very generic for this dude
let's make sure we're adds
20
no
two percent
size
we got that going we going we have to go
back to our inking our studio pen
make sure we have that and not our
airbrush
all right
so let's go ahead and we're going to add
some like little little things
they're gonna start bringing
our character to life he looks a little
too plain for me and i don't like that
so we're gonna add these little lines
under his eyes
that helps add shape and curvature to
the face
we're going to let's give him like maybe
a little bit of
a little tussle of hair
cool
all right so we'll make sure that
connects
i'm gonna go back
to that layer
here
and i'm gonna erase that circle line
that we were doing
i'm just curious getting some ideas
nothing set in stone
heck i might not even do this pig
no i'm just kidding i'm definitely gonna
finish up this pig
but it's just like the idea like don't
lock yourself in on a character and
design if it doesn't work then it just
don't work
and you gotta you gotta create something
that you like generally like love love
like
like for me i'm not like i don't know
like all proceeds go to a pig farm or
something like you know like i don't
i'm not really focused on that with like
botsy i have so many other plans and
like such a bigger imagination and a
love for it whereas maybe someone feels
the same way with little pigs you know
what i mean like it is what it is
everyone's different
but
you definitely got to create a design
and something that you can draw
multiple times that you can learn to
really really love
we're going to add like a little
inner nose snout here
let me see
i feel like that's right but hold on
let's check our reference how this is
how does the inside of a pig snout look
it's like two little black holes
okay let's try the other one what does
this look like
kind of the same deal all right all
right so for character sake
let's see
let's um
let's let's try making them a little bit
more
severe like more of a black hole kind of
deal
um
let's do like something like this
cool
and we're gonna do something like this
all right so it kind of looks like two
little cutouts
i don't know i might have to mess around
with that a little later later um
let's try putting one more so it looks
like it's on his face
you think that'll look good what do you
guys think
see how now it looks like his whole face
is looking to the left so we gotta make
sure that that
is absolutely
perfect
with the snout
you can kind of bring it in
bring it out
bring it in bring it out
okay
cool that's not too bad
still looking a little bit to the left
though i'm not really liking that so
let's go back and this is how we'll fix
it i'm going to go to this little s up
here we're going to go to the little
free hand tool
we're going to select it
i am going to
go to the select tool and i'm going to
go to distort so distort kind of like
makes the image come towards you
flips it left flips it back kind of adds
a little bit more of an access to it
axis not an access
and it be able i'll be able to kind of
straighten this little nose out a little
bit it was kind of a little wonky
so i want to make sure that we got it
perfect there i can kind of move it a
little bit too maybe i'll bring it up
maybe maybe i should bring it up a
little bit right
we'll tilt it a little
and i'm going to tilt that back end a
little bit there we go
so now it kind of looks
i can even rotate it
like 360. i think that looks so much
better like what are we doing what was i
thinking all right
all right so we got this
let's go ahead and connect this hair
just for ocd's sake
yeah let's keep it like that so it's got
like a little whatever fill tough tussle
of hair
um
we'll give him like a little hair on his
chinny chin chin
um
i like his ears like that i think we
we got something kind of going on here
guys
i think i'm going to actually
erase
this
and that and erase this
and we're gonna just make it a lot more
simple let's like
let's just get rid of all this guys like
what are we doing what am i doing
we're going to blow him up just a little
make sure that level layer is combined
with the hair that was the hair layer on
top i just want to make sure it all when
i decide to shrink this that the hair is
with it
ah i have it on to store it still sorry
so make sure you're on uniform when you
do this so uniform makes everything
uniform as it shrinks
so here we go let's
blow this little pig up
i think he needs to
i need to get some longer arms here or
like longer little shoulders
so we'll go ahead and we'll add
trace right there
i'm going to add the size to a three
so it matches
we're just going to really just kind of
simplify our character a little bit more
here
do this
and we're going to grab this and we're
going to bring it all the way over
i'm gonna
add a little bit more back to him
there we go all right i think we're i
think we're moving in the right
direction gentlemen ladies and gentlemen
um let's go ahead
clean that
clean this little piece up
make sure that's good
all right that's not too bad
all right then we'll do the same thing
for this side
a little piece i'm just going to add a
little darkness in there
okay
my wife's eye
ipad is so much better it's so clean and
crispy
i feel like mine maybe it's the case
that i use that makes it really hard to
draw on anymore
it's finally reached its its limit i've
been drawing with it way too much
okay
so we'll keep that our little pig dudes
coming together pretty nice
i'm pretty proud of this little guy a
little piece of bacon
okay
cool
so
that's how we do the sketch
to the line work
to the background to adding a cool
gradient so now let's start working on
color for a second i'm just going to
like
fix my camera real quick make sure it's
set right and i got enough space to go
into part two so just bear with me all
right guys so now we're gonna start
doing the coloring for our little pig
character here
as you can tell it's a little darker
outside because i am
recording this video
a couple hours after took my wife out
for
[Music]
like a dinner date so
that was pretty awesome
so now i'm back
i have a clear fresh
mindset and i'm ready to get into the
coloring so let's go ahead and figure
out what color we're going to use
for our little pig character here so i'm
thinking a nice little
kind of like a light pink color
looks pretty cool
i'm going to hit this little paintbrush
i'm going to go back over to my
inking
pen
or the
inking gap pen but it's under
where the hell is it studio pen cool
alright so
i'm going to go ahead and make sure that
the color layer
is underneath
the line work layer and the reason you
want to do that is because if i were to
go over the lines it doesn't affect it
because it's underneath that layer so
you can kind of get a lot of
clean
crispy colors in
while you're doing it so
let's go ahead and fill in this pig
and i'll probably speed up the video
just to make it a little easier so you
guys want to sit there the entire time
watching me color this pig in
all right guys so now that we've
added the color the pink color to the
entire peg we're going to go ahead and
start adding the the shadows and the
lights
so a little pro tip for you guys if you
go and create a new layer
you grab your inking pen where is it at
go to inking go to studio pen make sure
that's good
um the opacity could or the the size of
the brush could be like 40 somewhere
ballpark it it's cool as long as it
takes up a lot of space but not too much
space kind of like a medium gauge
and go ahead and grab the darkest darks
and we're going to just kind of see
which way
the direction that the light
is coming from so the light is coming
from the top of the head and that'll be
hitting this
it'll pretty much be hitting the last
part of his cheek here and then
underneath will pretty much all this
will be in shadow
and all of inside the nostrils will be
in shadow
and all of the side of the face and all
the way down and this entire ear would
basically all be in shadow
so we're going to go back we're going to
reverse everything and we're going to
keep in mind that the light source is
coming from the top left
and um we're working our way
down okay
so now we have that in mind
let's go ahead and we're gonna start
filling in the dark areas
so i'm just gonna grab this and we'll
just
do one of these
we're going to hold it so it snaps
and then we're going to do the same
thing underneath
hold it
until it snaps into place
and then we're basically just going to
go right over top of everything i could
probably open up turn the size up quite
a bit on that one
and i'm just going to color in this
entire side of the face
it could be a little messy i mean i
wouldn't go completely like off the grid
like crazy off off but just kind of
fill in where it is a little bit alright
it's a little messy because you can go
back in there and kind of clean up the
outline
on the edges
so it's all good we're just going to
fill this in
it's going to kind of bring this around
his cheek
in underneath his um
his jaw
fill that in
fill that in very subtle
cool
all right so that's pretty cool all
right so this is the cool little thing
that you can do here on your layers
you're gonna go
to
i believe it is soft light
so basically
it's taking the darkest part of that our
initial color that pink and turning it
into the darkest area that it can go
using that particular layer let's see
what other layers we got
see we can get things we got divide we
got hue saturation the only problem with
some of these is that it takes away
some of the saturation of the original
pink
it completely makes it blacked out again
so you want to find one that kind of
fits really nicely so for something like
this is pretty good soft light kind of
is filling the vibe and i kind of like
play around with this a lot i just kind
of mess around until it makes more sense
so soft light seems like it's a winner
i'm going to lower the opacity down just
a smidgen
a smidgen a smidge
and that looks pretty cool so that's
gonna be where our shadow is and that is
just like a quick easy way to get those
those shadows in there and i can
continue to kind of work in that layer
too if i find little spots that i kind
of want to tighten up
now that i'm in that
soft light layer and i already have the
opacity set there anything that i do is
going to be working in within that
shadow so it's just another quick way to
kind of save time when you're creating
these nfts so i got this i got this i
got to go unwrapped underneath the chin
that's exactly how i want it to look so
we got a little bit of shape but it's
not done yet we need even more so we're
going to go and create another layer
and the same exact way that we did the
shadows we're gonna do it with the
extreme light like white white so you're
working in absolutes you've got extreme
dark and extreme light and the only way
to use the light layer correctly is you
have to use the extremes so now for the
light we're going to use the widest
white
so we're going to grab that layer we're
going to start filling in certain little
areas that
i see that i want to get hit by the
light
so we're just going to just very lightly
just kind of around the face a little
bit right here is pretty good
hold it let it snap
i think this top of this ear really
needs it
so we're just going to kind of fill this
in a little bit there
i think we're going to need a little bit
right here on the shoulder kind of going
down
not too much though you don't want to
take take away from the whole image
this is just like something to just kind
of add a little bit more flair
and flavor to the design
i think it may be a little bit on his
cheek there
i would almost say the entire
bridge of his nose here
needs to get hit
uh let's see maybe just like a little
bit around his nostrils where that light
would kind of like cut across and then
catch underneath his nostrils here
and let's see where else can we kind of
hit this maybe
no not maybe not that far into the
picture
all right i think that's pretty pretty
good for right there let me just add
just a little bit more
definition here by his head
we'll fill that in
we'll kind of bring it right about there
and that looks pretty good you don't
want to like overdo it with with the
white
so i'm going to go back to that layer
i'm going to change it to
what do we say it was soft light
and see how like nice and easy that was
to just add that color right into it
so now we have two different things we
got the shadows we got the light so now
look how much it's already changing the
image
and morphing like the information in in
the visuals and when your eyes looking
at it right so i'm going to go back over
here and we're just going to do like a
little clean up right now we're just
going to make sure we got the brush or
the eraser tool
working in that same layer just going to
clean it up
some of this kind of ran off the page so
we'll just do a little tidy up here
right there a little bit in the back
maybe just right in there that's cool
boom cool cool
i'm going to go back up in here we're
just going to do this
it's always nice to do like a little
janitorial work
kind of cleaning everything up as you go
kind of makes your life easier at the
end so you don't got to nitpick the
whole entire piece
find out which layer you're on
it's kind of nice to see the layer that
you need to fix and just kind of work it
right there
but if you didn't and you did do the
whole entire thing as long as you keep
everything in layers it's it'll be easy
for you to kind of fix it anyway
same thing like on this side right here
look how easy it is to just go backwards
on that dark layer we already know it's
the shadow layer and that shadow part is
kind of leaking out
so we'll clean it
we'll clean that part where else are we
going
we got some coming this way
oops
too far too far
all right we got some coming off his
ears
just like these tiny little cleaning
spots
i'm always a fan of really clean designs
and the more simple you go the more
complex
it really does become because every line
and every color
means something so you have to make sure
that
you're kind of filling that need
all right so
[Music]
so that's looking pretty good so i think
we're going to just come back and
let's see what what layers is uh where's
my line works this is my line work layer
i i want his eyes to be white
i just feel like that's a i don't know
as i know it's a little bit of my bossy
feel but for me i think this pig can
look pretty cool with some white eyes so
we'll just kind of do this
and what i did here is i i have it
if you see i got my outline layer
and then i have the layer right
underneath it
so anything that i do is not going to
affect the outline
so i just wanted to just work right
underneath
so i don't have to really worry because
there's a lot of black on the outside
that keeps the white on the inside there
so that's awesome
again just another quick easy way to get
your workflow in
i don't know where that little see that
little tiny white dot where in the world
is this coming from
don't matter i'm gonna hit it anyway
we got that we're gonna grab that white
again make sure we completely fill in
the gap
ah another little tiny white dot look at
this all this clean work we gotta keep
this thing clean
ironically it's a pig though right how
clean can he be
um
all right so let's go ahead and we're
going to add
some extra little flare to this as long
as we're underneath the outline layer
we're going to be okay
so at this point i'm going to kind of
freestyle some of this stuff
underneath this ear
i want it to be a little darker
so we're going to do this hold it let it
snap
we're going to clean this up a little
bit
i just feel that it makes sense that
even though this is in
shadow the way that the fold of the ear
is it should definitely be more in
shadow than most
and i'm going to just kind of
make sure i'm on my pencil layer here
and i'm going to just kind of replicate
that make sure that side looks the same
we're just gonna do a little cleanup
work
and that looks
pretty good i think it needs to be just
a little thicker
let's go back over it one more time
just so it matches the other side
oh my goodness it's so
all right there it goes
sometimes it tries to escape get the
best of me you know what i mean all
right inside the nostrils same deal i
want that to be darker
so we're just going to come up here do
that freestyle work
stay underneath the outline layer and
we'll be all clear
all right so under closer inspection i
actually want this
to be the nostril
and i'm going to fill it all the way in
because i feel that the inside of the
nostrils would be even darker
so we're going to grab even a darker
color like this
and it's going to do one of those so
that gives it kind of like that
three-dimensional kind of vibe
we got the lighter then it gets a little
medium light or dark and then it gets
like dark dark in the inside of the
nostril hole
so let's keep that going
all right
[Music]
let's do a little cleanup job out here
too
kind of feel like it really
really went somewhere
all right
that's cool all right i don't really
mind it being a little a little messy i
think it kind of adds character
um last but not least on the coloring
aspect
i'm gonna add one more layer and we're
gonna do solid white this is just in a
normal layer and this is just gonna
allow me to add some kind of shimmers
and shines to the design
i'm always a big fan of these like
really shiny pieces for some crazy
reason it's just something very
interesting
about
white and shiny things
it almost makes it looks like it's like
plastic or
yeah plastic i guess
uh glossy maybe is a better word
i'm gonna add a little gloss right there
and a little goes a long way like you
don't want to make this whole thing
saturated with the white you just want
to just hit just the right little spots
maybe make his nose look a little wet
maybe just like
maybe like up there no that doesn't look
good
up here sure maybe a little bit at the
end of the year
and
we can find one more little spot maybe
like right by his eye right there that
looks cool
like i said too much will completely
take away from the design
so let's think about where we're at now
so we have the face
so maybe this snout
should actually be
a little bit
darker kind of like going on right
here
let's see oops you know what let's make
sure we're in our another layer just so
we don't screw it up
and i'm actually going to do that whole
little trick that we did before with the
solid black
and i just i'm just curious i'm just
seeing kind of messing around with some
idea
i think this side of the nose should
maybe be more in shadow
it could be wrong though
but maybe not let's see
let's see what the magic does here so we
got this
i'm actually gonna bring it up a little
bit
okay so
it's pretty cool
all right so let's hit the magic button
here go to the layer
we're going to
go to the soft light
uh are we going to go to soft light
let's see let's just check our options
yep looks like we're going
to the soft light and we're just going
to reduce that reduce it down
take a look at it
hmm
i don't know how i feel about his nose
hmm
let's see
i mean the idea is not bad but
i don't know i think i almost liked it
before so let's go ahead and just keep
it the way it is
don't overthink it
but we could
instead of doing it that way
let's
yeah okay let's get rid of that layer
let's create another layer let's keep it
in the dark let's grab the pen and we're
just gonna go underneath the nose
this
is probably what it's missing
a little bit of separation from the
light
we'll keep it like this and now we're
going to go to
[Music]
soft light we're going to bring it back
ah yes that is what it was missing it
needs some darkness underneath that
nostril
because it doesn't make any sense that
the lights hitting it and there's no
shadow casting
so we're gonna make a little cast shadow
and i think that looks like even though
it's so subtle and small but it really
like really pulls it together
so we got a little pig let's color in
his hair
again we're underneath the outline layer
so let's add a cool color what color
should this pig's hair be
um
let's kind of keep it simple let's do
like a brown
maybe
yeah let's just do like a brown
he's a very basic pig
color in his hair
a couple little scribbles
all right
let's kind of bring this back over this
way
staying in the lines
see kindergarten really did pay off all
those times you got to color between the
lines now look i do this for a living
isn't that crazy
don't knock your kids
don't knock those kid in the gardeners
coloring on inside the line
you never know what they're going to
grow up to be
all right so
let's call it this
all right
that looks pretty awesome
i like i kind of like the brown i think
it's like kind of fits this pig
okay so
we're gonna do another layer we're gonna
grab the
lightest light
and we're gonna do that trick again
so i'm just gonna find where i want the
light source to kind of be on this
i think something like
that's pretty cool
so i'm just going to fill in this little
spot
don't worry about that little squiggly
line right there at the bottom i'm gonna
nip that in the butt here in a second
i'll clean that up
eraser
tool erase erase we're going to go and
change that to that soft light layer
or over it no soft light is pretty dope
all right and see how that just created
that lighter brown just by doing that
it's something so crazy how it just
if you just implement the right things
in your workflow it makes life so much
easier
so him being so pink i think i want to
change my background to maybe a
maybe a blue or blue
i think he
for some reason that reminds me of like
you know like a kid's coloring book like
a pig on a farm needs a blue background
especially when you sow pink like that
so this would be like the basic basic
base of an nft
so let's get into something a little bit
more advanced
now that you have your base
you have all these really awesome layers
you can actually grab it and oops oh my
god
what the hell did i just do if you grab
it and you kind of flick it to the right
it highlights them and then selects the
layer oh my goodness i just hit it too
many times
all right if i hit it like this it
selects the layer
then i can group all these layers and i
can hit this little bottom arrow and it
just kind of cleans up
the whole layer system here so if i were
to turn it off it turns off all of the
layers all together
cool
following me awesome so we're going to
go and create a new layer
and now we're going to add things called
accessories accessories accessories yeah
so let's think about it
every accessory that you add to your
character
if you're going to create a node and if
you are going to do it in a like
generate maybe 10 000
the best thing to really do is if you're
going to do let's say sunglasses
do five or six pairs of sunglasses
all different kind
maybe even different colors
i would
for
for an artistic side of things i think
maybe not so much just the same glasses
and different colors would be kind of
boring but if you create different
glasses uh overall sunglasses
then you could do different earrings i
would say five to six different earrings
if he's a character that's maybe has a
smile
change up the the style of the smile
instead of just one like that make one
where it's more flat and more serious
maybe
and you kind of want to play with those
kind of things and make sure you have
five to six variations of all these
different things if he has a if he's
wearing a t-shirt right
make sure that
the t-shirt is different maybe it's a
v-neck on one
maybe it's a collared
shirt on another
maybe it's
a tank top let me try to back this up
do a quick tank top just to show you
maybe it's just the tank top
who knows whatever you decide to do just
try to create
in every layer this would be one pair of
sunglasses
this would be a totally different pair
of sunglasses and this is going to be
the most time consuming part of creating
your nfts but it's the most rewarding
when you actually add it into the
generator and it starts populating 10
000 different variants so
in that generator you can actually
type in a certain code and decide how
much of a percentage will that accessory
be shown so this is how you are able to
create rarity like let's say you did um
a pair of maybe like elton john
sunglasses right or like the uh what do
you call it the uh
the gold the rose gold sunglasses that
he always wears
and you just did just one layer like
that and you did a one percent chance
that would make it the most rare
sunglasses that you ever could create
for your nft so
it's kind of cool to add those rarities
because that's what kind of separates
the style of your collection for the
buyer when they're looking at the
properties and they're like oh i want to
buy the rarest of your collection that's
just a good way to do it botsy's a
little different bossly i'm actually
trying to do more of a numbers thing
with that so if you've bought a boxy
later on down the road i am trying to
plan on not so much properties and
what's more rare like that or how much
each you've spent rather it's the the
number that you bought like let's say
you bought a botsy horror
zero zero one like that is going to be
something that i'm going to create and
have special unique utilities for that
specific number in that collection
rather than
properties but for this case and for
this video we're going to create some
properties so let's go ahead and i'm not
gonna go ahead and sit here and do six
different sunglasses and six earrings
i'm just gonna do one pair of sunglasses
just so you guys can understand how to
start dressing up your character so just
like you would maybe like a barbie doll
or like um like a really cool maybe like
a gi joe figure where you got like
battle ready
set them up with like face paint and
stuff and different hats and stuff
that's basically what we're going to do
on this base
so sorry for talking so much i just want
to say everything i have to say about it
let's go ahead and create
a pair of glasses
let's make these pair of glasses a size
two on the brush
and
you know what i've been seeing a lot
lately is these like
tron almost style glasses
so i've kind of been messing around with
it
i've seen the 3d glasses which are
pretty cool
but i really like
the ones that look like metaverse
glasses like they make them like almost
transparent underneath
so we're gonna go ahead and i'm just
gonna try to create this for our little
pig character here
we're gonna add this nice little hook
so his nose can sit inside
i'm going to erase this
a little bit
underneath
we'll tie that in
all right so we're just going to add
like a nice little fold going up the
back
so as if it's getting tucked around his
head and back behind his ear i'm going
to do the same exact thing for this side
and i'm going to create another box
within this box
and this is going to create like a nice
little band
where i'm going to lower i'm going to
add a color and then i'm going to lower
the opacity so you can see his eyes
on the other side of these on this lens
so this is just going to add a little
bit of flavor to the character
hold it snap it into place i'm going to
grab one part
we're going to wrap it all the way
around the nose
this looks something like this
and now
i am going to
color drop something let's try the color
purple
put that in there
let's grab a darker purple
and we're going to put that on the back
so now and then we're going to grab an
even darker purple and why are we going
to do that because this part is in
the shadow
but because i've done this so many times
i know there's a invisible little spot
you cannot see
that needs to connect this like a
triangle just on this part at least and
same for this
because technically
if i don't do that
it's just one line and it's not truly
connected
to the entire layer and i know this
already
so
i'm not going to
set myself up for failure i'm just going
to grab it now and it should stay right
in that little triangle there we go
same thing for this we're going to drag
it drop it and it's going to fill in
that entire triangle so now it looks
like the glasses are sitting on his head
but i kind of want to see
something else here we can kind of play
with the layers
you can make them more futuristic
see how you can kind of see like the
pig's eye on the other side of them
that's kind of cool but i think i was
going to do that i think i kind of like
these kind of little like little ray
bans
i'm going to grab some of this white
color here
and i'm just going to fill it in i'm
just going to add some like nice little
cool cool guy
reflectiveness inside the shades
hold it lock it hold it snap it into
place i'm gonna drag it drop it
boom
and usually when you have one large one
you wanna have like one slightly smaller
one right next to it
i don't know why that is it just seems
like it looks cooler and it makes more
sense
for some reason
a lot of cartoonists like to do that you
do one large
um
reflection and you do the smaller one
right next to it
and of course we can come in here and
you see where i can like kind of fix
that up a little bit tighten that up
but you guys kind of get the idea of
what we're trying to do here
create just a pair of accessories
and then since it's on its own layer you
can turn it off and turn it on
and now you can decide in the node
whether or not
you um
you want that to be
super rare maybe
20 of your characters actually pop on
with these classes
it doesn't matter um this is completely
up to you so let's try um maybe uh some
new hair let's try some kind of crazy
haircut for him right
so we have our base make sure you're on
your own layer and this would be like
your hair layer
and we're gonna go ahead and give him
some hair let's see
let's give him like this cool
maybe like an elvis kind of do
we're gonna wrap this up like that
you know what let's try that one more
time
we're dropping the ball man
grab this here
that'll be like his little sideburns
wrap it up like that
and give him like a little cool little
weird pompadour type deal
i don't even know what i'm doing right
now what is this
all right
wrap this up like that
okay so let's just see something this
might not come out as well as i hoped it
would
let's grab like a dark brown let's fill
it
fill it
fill it
now he looks like he's like a disco cool
pig
[Music]
and real quick you can like do these
little tricks again you can open a layer
bring it right underneath
if it allows me go right underneath
grab that dark dark remember how we did
it before
and we're just going to go like ju oops
let me turn up the size of the brush a
little
and you go right underneath that
hairline just under the hairline
there hold it let it snap
again underneath the hairline
all the way around
until it snaps
and we're going to do just a tiny bit
more on that side
and then we're going to go to the
what was it again the soft light layer
we're going to lower that down
and what's that going to do it's going
to create like that cool little shadow
underneath
the overall design there of the hair
and of course you can just kind of
create another layer on top
and for me i would like add like a nice
little shine right
right here
maybe a little shine up top
depending on this is completely up to
you at this point i'm just showing you
like there's so many cool little ways
that you can make them this cool like
little disco pig
now i could take the hat off to get the
hair on and off i could take the glasses
on
now he's just a pig with hair
and they basically you would just create
that you do five six different
hairstyles five six different sunglasses
and you would put them all
onto one
thing and then um
you'd use your desktop and you could
download a node a js node and all that
other stuff but this video is not going
to cover all that it's just strictly the
art and explaining how all these people
are creating these nfts and using
something as simple as just procreating
an ipad and creating their own utilities
for and everything like that so
this character is completely
random i have no idea what i'm going to
do with this pick at this point i might
throw them up on c just for the sake of
the video that if someone wants to have
him he's uh he can be yours
but um thank you guys for watching the
video
and um
i will definitely see you guys in the
next one thank you so much botsy love
right here guys have a good one guys
thank you
