Different Products by Oracle - Part 1 | Oracle SQL Fundamentals

Now that we are working only on Oracle. There are some technologies or I would

say some software's that you should know even before we right away get into the

Oracle SQL. The first thing is Oracle product. You must be aware of the

different Oracle products in the market right so Oracle products, what are the

different Oracle products in the market. Guys Oracle is an ocean that there are a

lot of product. But one of their flagship products when I say flagship that means

the hot cake or the hot selling product is Oracle database. That's the main

product with which they make most of their revenue right, so Oracle database

is one of their main products and then they have Oracle Enterprise Manager. Now

they have introduced Oracle cloud and they also have Oracle WebLogic server.

Why am i mentioning these technologies or these product lines to you because

this is also part of your certification and that's the only reason I am

specifying this for to you guys. So that you are already aware of just you

need to have an idea. It's not that you should have worked on these technologies.

So Oracle database is nothing but as I mentioned it's the flagship product and

it's the same server on which you guys are working right now. So with SQL

Developer you are connecting to an Oracle database which is hosted when I

say hosted that means it is installed on AWS cloud right, so the Oracle database

that you connect with SQL Developer with Your credentials, it is hosted on AWS

cloud. So I have a Linux server on the AWS cloud and on that Linux server, I

have installed the Oracle database so that anyone from anywhere in the world

can connect and practice right. So that's the Oracle database

product, so the main product which is used by at least 60% of the companies in

the world to store their data that's Oracle database. Oracle Enterprise

Manager, guys see lot of you might be freshers ok and or maybe you are new to

the technical world, in real time every company has even I am talking about the

smallest company that is using Oracle database they will have at least 20

databases. I'm talking about at least. There are also environments, there are

more than 500 databases, 700 databases. The maximum databases environment that I

have personally worked was nine hundred some odd number databases. So understand

how difficult will it be to monitor all these databases. So you need a tool that

can give you an alert saying like there is a problem in Xyz database and there

is an alert or there is an error in the XYZ database on ABC server. We need a

mechanism right. Otherwise imagine how would you work on 900 databases and how

will you identify what went wrong. So it's practically not possible that you

keep on logging into all the 900 servers every single minute and checking the

database whether there is an error or not. So rather than doing it this way we

have to be reactive. So Oracle developed this tool called as Oracle Enterprise

Manager. So this tool will actually monitor when I say monitor that means it

will check and send you an alert if there is an issue. So it will monitor

your databases, servers, now that's the beauty. Can you see even though this

The product is developed by Oracle, but it allows you to monitor the server as well.

Let's take somebody switch off one of your servers then what, so you need to

get some alert right. You need to have a mechanism where you get some alert.

So the Oracle Enterprise Manager will send you an alert if there is issue with

the server, if there is an issue with the database, if there is issue with the

Listener okay, you don't have to worry about all these big terms like listener

and all at this stage. So and it will also inform you or send you an alert

when there is issue with space. Let's take your root directory is 90% full. We

need to add some space right otherwise the server will hang. In this cases the

Oracle Enterprise Manager will monitor your entire environment including

servers, including databases, it also helps you monitor the applications only

if you configure it with Oracle Enterprise Manager. So that's the beauty

of Oracle Enterprise Manager. Now understand banking sector or a trading

firm, how many records are inserted, deleted, updated, modified at a given

single second right, now in those kind of critical environments, you cannot afford

to have servers going down and there is No monitoring mechanism right, you need

to have a monitoring mechanism that can send you an alert, once you get the alert

then you react onto it. Like in this case, we got an alert that route mount point

is having like 10% free space, in this case even before it becomes 100% full at

least we have some time to add the space, so that our system does not hang. So the

same thing goes with listener or let's take somebody shut down the server, you

would not even get to know until your client complaints right, so understand if

a server goes down, the database will go down, if the database goes down then the

application will not be able to talk to the database. If application is not able

to talk to the database the client will start complaining. In this case what happens is

with Oracle Enterprise Manager, if the server goes down you get an alert

immediately, you can react on it maybe you can inform the system admin team

saying like please bring the server up and even before your client gets to know

your server and databases and everything is up and running. So basically it helps

you in monitoring your entire environment. So once again, Oracle

database it's the product which is used to store the data the company's data

right and Oracle Enterprise Manager it is the product that helps to monitor the

resources in your entire environment. Now the resources include databases,

servers, listeners, space, applications and there is further big list.
