yo guys what is up andy here with
another business tip
and today we're going to be talking
about how to sell on take a lot
so take a lot is a south african
e-tailer uh they are claiming to be
according to their financial statements
the biggest e-tailer
in south africa which i can kind of
believe i mean they've grown
exponentially in the last couple of
years pretty much everyone i know shops
on technology sort of like the amazon
for south africa it's naspa has owned
and it's done really well over time
so there are ways to sell on tech lot
so it's not just take a lot holding the
inventory you can also as a business
become
a seller on take a lot just like amazon
or ebay
yeah so how to do this is
uh basically you have to go to the
seller
tecla portal you can then apply and
then there's quite an extensive vetting
process
um because of the way take a lot scaling
at the moment they can't
accept every single retailer so
for marijuana sa um that was basically a
long
process of trying to convince them that
it's a good
um you know that we're a decent company
to have list on there and then
eventually
after a couple of attempts they said
okay we can list
we are happy to let you be a seller so
all in all i think
at the moment they are on boarding more
sellers than ever before
so if you are looking at selling now
would be the best time
to go there and apply right once you've
applied
there is a also quite a fairly extensive
um onboarding process you have to go
through like an e-learning course uh
not so bad in the greater scheme of
things um
pretty pretty helpful uh because the
back end will take a lot is rather
complicated
so then so you've done your ecommerce uh
your
e-learning sort of introduction now you
can sell
and there's two different ways of
selling on take a lot
this is the important one both kind of
have their own pros and cons so
the first type is lead time order
this is where it's maybe not the easiest
way to start off but it's
less risky for a small business
basically what a lead time order is
is i could list a product on take a lot
then
i still hold the product in my warehouse
and i say it's a available sale i've got
to make sure take a lot
knows exactly how much stock i have also
quite a big problem but
there are some workarounds so as long as
take a lot knows how much stock i've got
so i've got 10 of these balls at my
warehouse
and i want to list those i put on take a
lot and i say i've got 10
take a lot listed and then that's when
you see on the tech lot item when you're
shopping you'll see
uh ships within three uh five to seven
days or three to five days that's
basically how long it would take
us as the supplier to get it to either
cape town distribution center or joburg
district fusion center
so when a customer purchases one of
those products
it goes from the warehouse i send it to
take a lot
take a lot repackages it puts it in a
take lock box
and then sends it with anything else
that customer ordered
so it could be food coffee whatever
anything else put it all in one box and
then it gets
sent to the customer in a consolidated
order the second type
of order that you can do is
uh an in stock order this is a lot
easier basically
you instead of me keeping the stuff at
my warehouse i
send in a bulk load of this inventory to
take a lot
it's all barcoded and labeled already
and once it gets to take a lot it
gets scanned in and then as soon as it
gets ordered by a customer
that very second it gets packaged with
any other orders that are that's in that
customer's basket
and then it gets shipped to the customer
so that way is generally a lot better
for the
um for the customer because it's a
little bit quicker which brings us to
the pros and cons of each different type
the lead time orders
obviously you don't have to send in all
of the stock
sometimes you don't even know what kind
of stock
what kind of sales you'll expect on take
a lot so it's easier to do lead time
orders for the products first
if you get enough sales then you can
send in some of those products if you
don't get sales on it as a lead time
you're probably going to get
representative sales as in stock order
but there will always be more sales in
stock than there will be
lead time just because it's quicker for
the customer and a lot of customers
if they see five to seven days they
probably will just go to the shops and
get it
or walk in if they want it right there
and then
so that's a benefit of lead time is you
don't need to send the stock in because
if you send in too much you will be
liable to pay
fees um and the fees are calculated
based on how fast your
that inventory line moves so if it moves
very quickly chances are you won't pay
that too many
that many fees or that high of a fee but
if it's a slow moving line and you send
it and it's very bulky you probably will
experience some fees
the downside is there is a shipping
charge
to send a lead time order to take a lot
so
every time they place an order for one
unit
of an item or whatever you have to send
that one unit
or you can send the daily sales to take
a lot so all of the lead time orders
together but still
if you're starting off and you only have
one or two orders a day
um you still have to pay up to a hundred
grand to get that item
from cape town to joburg if it wants you
to send it to the job distribution
center if you're lucky it's just going
to cape town
but there's still that 60 year and
charge whereas if you send
20 items or inventory items to take a
lot at once
then you only pay shipping once so
depending on your shipping rates that
you get and if you can if you're close
by you can actually just drop it off
uh but yeah we use a courier so lead
time we do have to factor in those
um in stock obviously the benefits are
it's quick for the customer um stocks
not uh we don't have to pay for any
storage on our side it's safe and secure
it take a lot
i think they probably do have some sort
of insurance and they've got theft
procedures and basically you can see
exactly how many stock items of each
product you've got
at any time so it's a really cool it's a
really cool system
so for us how it's been going um
we are very new take a lot seller so
we're just getting
to ropes with it and during the whole
covet lockdown
they uh the couriers were failing
and a lot of the business customers were
suspended just so
they could get back up on you know get
ahead of all of their orders um
now it seems like it's back to normal so
we
are doing our lead time orders again
we're doing it in stock orders again
and we found a way to get the inventory
matching and all of that but those will
come up in future videos i'll show you
through the platform
um a little bit closer next week
so if you guys got any cool information
from this
hope you enjoyed it and make sure to

next week
