do tell me the name of your job
interview in the comments section below
this video
and i will give you some interview
questions to prepare for
now in this video to teach you how to
sell yourself
in an interview i am going to give you
seven
essential tips and these tips are at the
top
of every hiring manager and recruiters
list so these are the things that they
are looking out
for so let's get started how to sell
yourself in an interview
tip number one now whether it's a video
interview
or a face-to-face interview you are
undertaking
make sure you wear a clean and smart
outfit this is
really really important because what you
wear
for your interview says a lot about you
as a person if you wear a smart
outfit it shows you have high standards
and it shows that you care and i do know
lots of hiring managers and recruiters
who will not
take somebody on if they fail to make an
impression
through what they wear at their
interview
how to sell yourself in an interview tip
number two
make sure you have a positive answer
ready and prepared
for the first interview question which
is going to be
tell me about yourself this will be the
first interview question
asked and they may pose it as introduce
yourself
but either way you have to get off to a
flying start
in your job interview so when you
respond to the
question tell me about yourself cover
the following three things
the skills and qualities you have the
experience you possess
and also the type of person you are now
if this
is your first interview simply swap
experience for your educational
qualifications
so let me give you an example answer to
the first interview question
tell me about yourself and this will
help you to sell yourself
at your job interview thank you for
inviting me
to be interviewed for this position over
the years i have built up lots of life
skills
and experiences that are a match for
this job description
now i understand the importance of great
teamwork
i enjoy working under pressure and i am
able to deliver
excellent customer service to ensure
your customers
come back to the business time and time
again in the future
now in previous roles i had a reputation
for being someone who could be relied
upon to carry out challenging tasks
under pressure and my manager often
praised me for my determination
and resilience in challenging situations
for example
i often dealt with customer issues or
complaints successfully
and my manager could leave me alone to
get on with the job
knowing it would be done to the right
standard now i am the type of person
who will be a positive role model for
your business if you hire me
i will work with you to ensure the
business grows and i will always act
with high levels of honesty integrity
and professionalism
now that is a great answer to that first
interview question tell me about
yourself
that covers the format of set skills and
qualities
experience and the type of person you
are so always remember
that format at the start of your
interview set
skills and qualities experience the type
of person you are because it sets you up
with confidence for the rest of your
interview
how to sell yourself in an interview tip
number three
make sure you research the company you
are applying to join
because most candidates do little or no
research
and they then end up failing the
interview
so when the interviewer says to you so
what do you know about our company
not many people can answer this because
they are only interested
in landing a job they are not bothered
about the company they are working for
but that's a way to fail the interview
so
when you answer the question what do you
know about our company say something
along these lines
i carried out some research into your
company during my preparation for this
interview
now you develop and sell various
products and services
both online and via stores across the
country and you have
a set of values that include always
going above and beyond for your
customers
and acting with high degrees of
integrity now i noticed on your website
that
you were in the news recently for
contributing
to local good causes which i think is
commendable
i also noticed you are looking to launch
more products very soon
and you are opening more stores in the
next 12 months so that's an example of
what to say
when they say to you what do you know
about our company now when you research
a company
before you go along to the interview
have a look on their website
about the products and services that
they offer have a look for any company
values
and any mission statement and learn it
and also
have a look online about any positive
news stories
or future plans that they have now you
can normally find
all of these things out on their website
so just spend
five or ten minutes research researching
the company
so when they say to you what you know
about our company you are
able to answer it and that's a great way
to sell yourself positively
how to sell yourself in an interview tip
number four
make sure you ask smart questions at the
end of the interview
so they are going to say to you i can
guarantee it
at the end of the interview do you have
any questions for us
and if you want to sell yourself in an
interview you need to ask some smart
questions
so my advice is to ask them three
questions
here they are question number one what
would you need me to concentrate on
in the first 30 days of starting in this
role that shows that you are already
visualizing yourself in the role and you
want to do a good job
the second question to ask at the end of
the interview
what's the culture like within the
organization and finally
has anything frustrated you about
previous employees
who have held this position those are
three really good questions
that will help you to sell yourself in
an interview
how to sell yourself in an interview tip
number five
sell yourself positively and confidently
when they
say to you why should we hire you they
are going to say this to you now this is
your ability your opportunity
to stand out from all of the other
candidates
so when you answer the interview
question why should we hire you
give three reasons why they should hire
you not one
the majority of candidates will just
give one reason and they will say
something along the lines of i am a hard
worker i will always do a good job
that's no good
that will not land you the job that's
not a way to sell yourself
and you should also give three things
that are of benefit
to them remember they are looking to
hire somebody
so you have to say the things that are
going to be a benefit to them
if they choose you so here's how to
answer the question
why should we hire you i believe you
should hire me
for three reasons the first reason is i
am a fast
learner and i will get up and running in
the role quickly which means
you will see a positive return on your
investment by hiring me
the second reason is i am a loyal and
trustworthy person
who will always act as a positive role
model for your business
i will always strive to get customers to
return to the business
time and time again in the future and
finally you should hire me
because i am looking for long-term
employment with the same company
now this means you will have a high
performing employee long into the future
who will grow and develop with your
business that's a great answer
it helps you to sell yourself positively
in your job interview
how to sell yourself in an interview tip
number six where possible
give evidence of how you have performed
in the past
now the majority of employers and hiring
managers
score evidence as the most important
criteria
during a job interview so if they say to
you a question
a behavioral interview question such as
tell me about a time when you had a
conflict
in a team make sure you give evidence of
where you have been in a situation
where this has happened previously now
if this
is your first job and you have never
been in any type of situation before
give them an example of where you
observed somebody else dealing with the
situation
so if they say to you can you give an
example of where you have
provided excellent customer service say
i have not been in that situation
however i have witnessed good service
being provided lots of times in the past
and this is what i witnessed so here's
how to answer the question
tell me about a time when you had a
conflict in a team
i was discussing how to complete a task
with a co-worker
in a previous role and they suggested
that we cut corners
because our manager would never find out
now it was my job to not only say no
to my work colleague but to explain the
dangers of not doing things to the right
standard
now when i challenged my my colleague
she became very defensive
and she told me to lighten up now i
stood my ground
and i explained how we both had a duty
to do things the right way
it was our job and we should take pride
in how we completed our tasks
now eventually she came around to my way
of thinking
and she apologized for being
unprofessional now i am not afraid to
deal with conflict
and i will always do the right thing in
any given situation that's a brilliant
answer it provides evidence
of where you've been in a specific
situation and you will notice there on
the left
in the highlighted blue that i have used
the format
the star format of situation task action
and result remember that for when you
are answering situational
interview questions it's a great format
that will allow you to structure your
answers effectively
