are you ready man yep call it uh hits
boom all right give me tails tails yep
give me details again again yep there it
is give me heads oh hey I swear it's
like magic every freakin time this is
the best version of this I've ever seen
oh my god
world record holder Rick Smith jr. we
had you out on the mana road to teach us
how to throw cards with penetrating
power and accuracy and on the way out
you casually displayed that you're able
to flip a coin and always determine if
it'll be heads or tails on command I've
been working on this now for like five
years I just assumed that this was a
supernatural skill that you had and
clearly I couldn't learn it but then
when you showed me the secret it is
astonishing how fast I was able to pick
it up and sense them for the last year
it has been my favorite thing it fools
myself I walk around constantly saying
like it's gonna be heads this time it is
heads it's gonna be tails this time oh
look it is tails this time okay what is
it that makes this work so well so
there's many different ways that you can
do this I've seen other magicians do it
in the past and I've kind of adapted
this into my own method to give it the
best feel of the coin actually flipping
because they call it a verisimilitude
the idea that whether it's true or not
it feels true and when you watch it men
in the right lighting conditions you're
convinced that you're watching a coin
tumble and overhead flip yeah and it's
not the coins actually wobbly so when a
bad version of this basically you've got
the coins heads up and it flies and then
lands again heads up right and you can
add a little bit of wobble with a bit of
chaos in there but kind of having it
spin around but you had the dead
simplest method that within ten minutes
I was able to start pulling this off
you're gonna put the coin on your middle
finger right and you're going to put
your thumb on top of the coin if you
start like this you know regular coin
flip you have the coin your thumb below
you're gonna flick it up same exact
starting point except the thumb stays on
the top okay so what you're really doing
here is you're actually going to snap
your fingers and so that snapping action
does two things first of all it
initiates a wobble but
also it spins the coin around which is
what gives it what looks like it's
humbling wobbling and the best part is
it pulls yourself to your own eyes it
looks like it's tumbling end over end
but it's just sort of circulating around
sort of like a michael motion illusion
in Superman and Superman - I'm talking
about but no to determine whether it'll
be heads or tails all you have to do is
make sure whatever you want is on top is
face-up right and you're balancing it on
your middle finger even though you're
balancing it here great when you're
about to perform the trick and I'm
coming down yeah I'm actually bringing
it off the finger a little bit yes and
so and that provides the rotation and
also the wobble äj--
if you give a little bit of skin it's
gonna turn it and wobble at the same
time now in this case I'm balancing it
just on the middle finger but you were
saying that you so I kind of put it
halfway I put it between the two fingers
like this that gives you the exact
location of where it has to be because
if you take that finger away it's gonna
fall off right so if it's there and you
put your thumb there now you're in
perfect position now you're all set
basically all you're gonna do is as you
flick your hand up you're gonna snap yes
and then that snap is gonna cause just
enough of a wobble as it goes up
you've snap right about here so at first
you're gonna do it with the snapping
sound but eventually you're gonna figure
out how to do it without making the
sound right correct and if you're doing
a bar or you're doing it a restaurant no
one's gonna no one's gonna know I have
noticed that it really helps to have
lights behind you in order to get that
that tumbling motion that for everybody
to see you would have me call it in the
air what are you doing in that case
alright ready call it in the air tails
okay call it in the air again heads oh
that's great so so you are keeping track
because you know that it's starting
heads up right in the air they could
call let's say if they call tails I
already know I'm holding a heads up
right but then I just slap it down on
that this is one of my go-to effects
whenever there's a language barrier
because everybody understands heads or
tails right you could point your head or
your tail right have them just your back
and then if you get multiple of them in
a row what I'll often do is I'll ask for
people like okay heads tails tails heads
you're like okay okay here we go here we
go and then all you got to do is
you do heads have heads on top show it
and then rotate it over to tails and
then you go tails and then you do tails
again and did you do ads it's so
unbelievably fair yeah final test time
heads or tails heads hello yes that was
good
heads or tails tails all right here we
go that looks like it's tumbling end
over in right so good heads or tails
tails again all right here we go
that looked so freaking bear did I pass
you got it it's real magic all right
look I want everybody at home to be
trying this out I want you guys taking
Twitter videos and hitting what's your
Twitter hands so my Twitter is different
because it's it's Rick Smith jr. one two
got it has Rick spent two years to sell
it to me is just a little bit late no
Rick Smith jr. one and ash would send us
videos of you guys pulling this off tell
us if it fools yourself the way it pulls
us oh my god so it's gonna be tails it's
just amazing it is so great heads gonna
be heads and there it is
