so you've booked a trip to Italy but you
don't know what to do stay tuned in this
video I'll be sharing with you a
two-week trip through one of Europe's
most incredible countries what's going
on my name is Alexander ayling and I'm a
full-time travel YouTuber filmmaker and
television host and I have been to Italy
more than my fair share over the last
few years in this video I'll be sharing
with you all the tips and the
destinations I believe you should
consider visiting and the road trip that
I did to make my way through Italy Italy
is one of the most popular travel
destinations in Europe and for good
reason with over 20 different regions
though it's difficult to pick and choose
where to go so what I'm doing with this
trip is I'm cherry picking some of the
best places the best experiences and
linking them together with a root an
itinerary that you can easily follow
we'll be traveling mostly by train and
inside the cities using public
transportation but there is one section
where I recommend renting a rental car
just to get the full experience and
really take you off the beaten path in
Italy so hit that subscribe button if
you're not already subscribed give this
video a thumbs up and drop your tips and
questions down there in the comment
section also I'm curious what's your
name and where are you watching from I'd
love to know a little bit more about you
so please put that down in the comment
section if you feel I've missed any
incredible places please let me know I
know that there are a lot more places
than you can fit into a two-week trip
but this itinerary I believe has some of
the top places the best destinations all
linked into one two-week vacation
so let's get started Andiamo
[Music]
day one you're flying into Rome Italy's
capital city which means you'll probably
be flying into Rome's International
Airport Leonardo da Vinci airport also
known as Rome fiumchino airport now the
fastest way to get to Rome from the
airport is taking the Leonardo express
it takes 32 minutes it's a quick train
which brings you directly from the
airport to the city center the train
runs every 15 minutes and costs 17 Euro
90. I recommend flying into Rome in the
morning which means if you're coming
from North America you probably want to
take a red-eye flight that way you can
sleep or hopefully you can sleep during
the flight over and then you arrive
early in the morning in Italy and you
get a more full day and more time in
Rome so we're going to spend two days in
Rome and here is my detailed guide for
the city
foreign

up in the middle of the night dreaming

explore Pienza and the surrounding
region Pienza is a Charming Town located
in the heart of Tuscany it's known for
its picturesque setting Renaissance

Pienza is a popular tourist destination
so it can get crowded during peak season
so get an early start to beat the crowds
and have a more enjoyable experience
once again wear comfortable shoes I just
highly recommend that for your trip to
Italy anyways because you are going to
be walking this is a cobblestone
medieval village so having comfortable
shoes is going to protect your feet
you'll be on your feet for most of the
day also plan for the weather in the
summer months Tuscany can get very hot
in the winter it can snow and get very
cold so just be prepared make sure that
you know what season it is there and
pack accordingly in the afternoon once
you've seen the small town of Pienza
it's time to hop back into the car and
drive to Siena Siena is a picturesque
Hilltop town in Tuscany it's known for
its history stunning medieval
architecture and the famous Palio horse
race which takes place twice a year in
the town's Central Square Piazza del
Campo the town's historic Center is a
UNESCO world heritage site and it's
filled with charming narrow streets
picturesque piazzas and local shops
selling everything from artisanal crafts
to delicious Tuscan Cuisine I recommend
you have dinner in Siena and then
quickly make the last drive to Florence
which is only about an hour away you'll
be spending the night in Florence and
the next morning on day five you'll have
the entire day to explore Florence
Florence is a city in central Italy and
the capital of the Tuscany region it was

it's time to leave Florence and to head
to Pisa Pisa is a city in Tuscany famous
for its iconic Leaning Tower you've
probably heard of the Leaning Tower of
Pisa the city was once a powerful
Maritime Republic and a Center of Trade
in the Mediterranean with its Heyday in
the 12th and 13th century back then all
of these bigger cities in Italy were
city-states so they were independent
from each other Italy was not actually
unified into one country until March 17
1861. so for most of its history a lot
of these city-states were their own
powerful republics or duchies or
princetons and that's kind of why each
one of these cities has its own unique
culture its own unique history and its
own unique feel one of the most famous
landmarks in Pisa is the Leaning Tower
of Pisa the tower was built in the 12th
century as a bell tower for the nearby
cathedral but its distinctive tilt was
caused by a foundation that was too soft
on one side despite efforts to correct
the lien over the centuries it still
leans at a precarious angle today the
tower along with the cathedral and the
baptistry is a UNESCO world heritage
site and attracts millions of visitors
each year you're going to arrive from
Florence after a short train trip you'll
need to store your luggage so you can go
out and explore the city for the day
most train stations have luggage storage
options but I just found out about this
new app called Bounce which has secure
luggage storage locations all across the
world available for very cheap and you
can click on the link down there and
check out bounce because oftentimes
you're in a place you're not not there
for a whole day or even if you are
you're there early and you can't check
into your accommodation until 3 pm most
times so you can leave your luggage
somewhere secure and you can go out and
explore the city while you wait to check
into your accommodation so here's my
perfect half day itinerary for Pisa 10
am start by checking out the Leaning
Tower of Pisa the tower is located in
the Campo de miracoli the field of
Miracles you can take a guided tour of
the tower climb to the top and take in
the breathtaking views of the city
tickets for the tower cost 18 Euros for
adults and should be booked in advance
sounds kind of like a repeating theme
Here book in advance especially if
you're visiting Italy in the summertime
11 30 a.m after visiting the tower head
to the nearby Cathedral of Pisa the
cathedral features stunning Gothic
architecture and Beautiful frescoes by
Italian Renaissance artists admission is
free but there may be a line 12 30 PM
it's lunch time for lunch head to the
nearby Piazza de la veto vagali a
bustling Market Square that is home to
many local cafes and restaurants try
some local traditional Tuscan Cuisine
and enjoy the Lively atmosphere of the
square 2PM after lunch visit the Piazza
de Cavalier Yeti a beautiful square that
was once the political center of the
city the square is lined with historic
buildings and features statues of Cosimo
de Medici the Grand Duke of Tuscany if
you want to learn a little bit more
about the Medici family and their
impressive hold on power then read the
book The Prince by Machiavelli 3 P.M
finally take a stroll along the Arno
river which flows through the heart of
Pisa enjoy the picturesque views of the
city and the river and take some time to
relax in one of the many parks and
Gardens along the riverbank after
train station and take a train to Rio
Maggiore because it's time to visit the
Cinque Terre day seven explore the
Cinque Terre the Cinque Terre is a
rugged stretch of Coastline on the
Italian Riviera consisting of five
colorful fishing villages that are
nestled in the cliffs overlooking the
sea the area has a rich history with
villages dating back to Medieval Times
when they were important trading ports
for the Republic of Genoa today the
Cinque Terre is a UNESCO world heritage
site and a popular tourist destination
known for its stunning natural beauty
and Charming Village atmosphere day
seven we're spending the whole day
relaxing here in the Cinque Terre 9am
star start your day in the village of
Rio Maggiore the southernmost of the
five Villages explore the colorful
houses and narrow streets and take in
the beautiful views of the sea 10 a.m
take the train to the Village of
manarola known for its picturesque
Harbor and Scenic Vineyards you can take
a short hike Through The Vineyards to
reach the neighboring Village of
Cornelia or simply enjoy a leisurely
stroll through the village
12 p.m it's time for lunch and we're
eating Seafood head to the Village of
vernazza considered by many to be the
most Charming of the five Villages enjoy
some fresh seafood at one of the local
restaurants and take some time to
explore The Village's historic castle
and Harbor at 2PM hop back on the train
it's worth buying a day pass for the
train which is around 16 euros because
you're going to be hopping on and off as
you make your way to visit all of the
different Villages now you can just stay
in vernazza and say goodbye to the last
two if you feel like taking it a little
bit more slow or you can hop back on the
train and head to the next Village
monteresto almare the largest and most
modern of the five Villages you can
relax on the sandy beach and enjoy some
gelato or refreshing drink at one of the
Beachside cafes
and then finally 4 P.M we're making our
way to the last of the five Villages the
village of Puerto Venere located just
south of the Cinque Terre The Village
features a stunning gothic church and a
picturesque Harbor and it offers
beautiful views of the surrounding
Cliffs and area now if you really want
to get out there you can walk from each
of the villages this is gonna be a long
day of walking but I definitely
recommend at least walking from one
Village to the next and then you can
jump back on the train okay day eight
it's unfortunately time to say goodbye
to the Cinque Terre now I will say
obviously you don't have to follow this
itinerary verbatim you can pick and
choose you can spend more time at
certain places and less time at others
or you can skip destinations entirely so
if you're relaxing and enjoying the
Cinque Terre by all means stay there
spend as much time as you want there
this is kind of like a Whistle Stop tour
of Italy trying to see as much as we can
in two weeks so with that in mind day
eight we're saying goodbye to the Cinque
Terre with heavy hearts because it is
such a beautiful place and we're heading
to Genoa take the train from Rio
Maggiore to Genoa it's one hour and 47
minutes and tickets are as low as eight
Euros Genoa is a historic Port City
that's located in Northwest Italy and
it's known for its Rich Maritime history
cultural heritage as well as pesto the
city was a major trade and commerce
Center in the Middle Ages in fact if
you've ever been to Istanbul you may
remember that there is that Tower there
yeah that was built by the genoese
because they were all the way over there
trading with the Middle East pretty
fascinating and so while Genoa has a lot
to see and do I do think we can kind of
hit it in a half day are you ready let's
go take the early morning train from Rio
magiore to Genoa and arrive at around 9
00 am store your luggage at the train
station or using bounce start your day
at the Palazzo ducale a historic Palace

once the residence of the doges of Genoa

then you might wanna shell out a little
bit extra cash but I definitely
recommend saving and splurging to do an
evening gondola ride right around Sunset
you get these incredible views and it's
a really great way to get a taste of
what life is like in Venice especially
if you get a talkative Gondola driver
like we did
[Music]

I'm curious what's your name and where
are you watching from
I'd love to know a little bit more about
you so please put that down in the
comment section unfortunately that's the
end of our two weeks in Italy we'll be
leaving back to wherever we came from
for me I flew from Venice back to Rome
and then caught my return flight to the
United States hope you enjoyed my
suggestions for a two-week trip through
Italy the reality is is that there are
so many places to see so many things to
do that two weeks just barely skims the
surface it's not enough time but it is
what most of us have available so this
trip tried to balance uh seeing as much
as possible without getting too crazy
and driving ourselves into the ground
