tikau a location that is larger than
life it is both a cultural and natural
heritage site
tikau is located in the baten department
of Guatemala tikau National Park is
embedded within the much larger Maya
biosphere Reserve and it is not just a
small site
this is an enormous City with temples
Greenery and Wildlife we stood in awe
several times as we explored takao has
an even greater significance to us as
Star Wars fans
this is one of the filming locations
from Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope
the cow was used as the Yavin 4 base in
the movie a rebel can be seen on top of
Temple 4 observing the Millennium Falcon
landing on Gavin after flying over
temples one two and three
in mystical Guatemala ultimate travel
guide we will take you around to Cal
National Park show you our hotel and
uncover what else there is to do in
takao let's explore
[Music]
how long was that hike oh I don't know
just a couple minutes but I definitely
is high and you're winded
but I'm already seeing a little peek out
above the trees and this is gonna look
amazing
oh my goodness
okay yeah that's legit
wow I'm just careful because there's no
railing there
so you're they legit trust you and I
guess I can see why they don't want you
to hike up there by yourself well I
guess you guys want to see the view huh
[Music]
do you hear the monkeys yeah these
howler monkeys sound very very dangerous
also you can climb on them because we
weren't sure if like you could actually
climb on them but we're on it we're on
it
can't uh
you're not going to climb the entire way
up but the steps
take you most of the way
and then we're up here
you get to climb up set of steps
and you can sit and enjoy the steps
because you definitely need to catch
your breath yeah I mean stairs are
really tough to climb it's one thing
climbing flat land or even up a mountain
stairs
oh there's a monkey again
stairs have extra impact on your knees
and Joints which is not fun yeah and
it's hot we've been used to the cooler
weather in Guatemala another Guatemala
City and you'll see other parts like
Shayla was a little bit chilly and
teachy it's hot up here a lot of beer
and that's why the monkeys are upset
yeah
now it's time to climb Temple two once
again we have a staircase here you're
not actually climbing up the ruins like
you can some places
to get to the top but that's probably
safer for everybody and that is
better for the uh
sake of the tempo itself
this stairwell is a lot uh wider so it's
not as hard on the knees
so let's see what the view is like over
the Great Plaza from the steps on the
way up you can see Temple three over
here
and then Temple five over there great
view from the top of Temple 2.
[Applause]
[Music]

foreign
flight of steps
you can go up to the center Acropolis
a unique glimpse into temple one up
another flight of steps
the top here at the top there's a little
Alleyway here
to a big open field
to the side of temple

as we head towards the Lost World we'll
tell you our experience of everything we
had to go through and all of our
preparations for getting here today so
the first thing is we had to buy our
tickets and we did research on different
websites that you had to go to a bank
that specifically the bank that they
mentioned was Bond rule which we went to
in Guatemala City to pick up our tickets
we got two sets of tickets each one for
just general entry here which is was a
150 consales and then one for Sunset
which is a hundred so if you want to get
sunset or Sunrise you got to get the
base during the day and then add on
Sunrise or sun set oh here's a nice
little stairs
these are actually made out of like
concrete or the ground instead of wood
[Music]
so we'll continue at the top of the
stairs here
so our main goal here in the Lost World
is to find a platform where we can see a
really good view of the entire park here
we thought the platform was a part of
temple four but it's not so we're trying
to find that
uh before we have to leave for the day
and then the next step was getting to
Flores so you can take a bus Which do
you have any idea how long the bus is
from the city
we hopped on the smallest plane that
we've been on so far I mean it's not
like a propeller plane or a water plane
or anything like that it's a proper one
but I mean there's like two propellers
on the side and they're right next to
the window if you're in the middle of it
um I really don't like flying so that
was a little rough because you have to
you feel every little thing in a smaller
plane yeah and they're like well how
could you travel the world when you
don't like flying well
I want to travel more than I hate flying
so yeah that's uh
one of the things I have to overcome so
we're starting to see some things here
in the Lost World
don't know what this is yet
and I don't know which direction we go
I see something big over here so let's
head this way all right let's go that
way
so we got into Flores uh got some food
and spent the night there
um mind you there is no Uber in Flores
that was my fault I thought there would
be we went and to look at food right
near the airport and I thought we could
just call an Uber and we couldn't but it
was okay because it was only like a 20
minute ride or I'm sorry 20 minute walk
to our hotel uh and there was like no
taxis around like nine o'clock at night
either yeah no taxis uh there is there
are Tuk Tuks but there wasn't any of
those then so and there's also not
really sidewalks so you're kind of just
either walking in the road or in the mud
or off to the side of the grass so
um that's not ideal I think I found a
platform all right we got it
um how do we get up there probably this
is yeah let's walk around okay so well
we've already found what we're looking
for so that's that's good news and this
morning we had to go to
um you know get our transportation over
to takal we're actually able to flag
down a tuck duck since it was Daylight
and that took us over to uh I think it's
like Market 12 or something like that
but basically where the bus station is
and that was only 10 kids alley so not
too bad for that and it was going to be
it's always good to be in a tuck tuck
again we missed those from East Africa
yeah we got over to the bus station and
the first guy was definitely one of
those salesmen who was trying to get a
commission so all right which way should
we go here seven temples temple four
we've been in town before so
this way here at least go this way okay
so the first guy was trying to charge us
60 could Sally's per person
um each way so when we saw that it
should be around 40 catalase per person
each way but that could have been
outdated but we just wanted to make sure
we got the best price and then just go
with the first person who wanted to sell
us a ticket so we went into the actual
uh ticket booth area ticket booth yeah
the ticket office Ticketmaster and uh he
said it's only supposed to be 50 kazales
a person
um so we got that we but we got it for
uh here and back and asked where the bus
station is so we're clear on where to go
uh to get back to Flores tomorrow he
gave us a little ticket and and he wrote
down the time slots to pick up the bus
tomorrow the 9 30 bus we got uh we
ordered our ticket for that at 9 30 a.m
and we left that area around 9 45 went
over to another market area now we love
markets but uh it was definitely unusual
for us to actually drive through a
market uh usually that's just a
pedestrian Zone but apparently that's
how you get to the next bus stop and we
picked up some more people there at 10
and then we had quite the journey to get
to
um
here it's all in good fun it's no big
deal we got here eventually but it took
two hours and 15 minutes to get here
because our bus driver
um not only had to pick up more people
on the way which makes sense you got to
make sure the bus is always full the
Colectivo I guess they call it
um but he also had several errands to
run which is quite amusing he stopped at
a gas station and got .889 gallons of
gas to I guess fill up a gallon jug of
gasoline which he gave to the guy at the
front when we arrived here
um into the National Park area he also
stopped and got some motor oil he
stopped at a house kind of off of a side
road and I guess dropped it off to
someone who needed to change their oil
and then he picked up some food in a big
blue like Igloo kind of container cooler
I guess and then he dropped off the
cooler at the restaurant uh here in the
national park and then did you have a
third Aaron he had egg oh yeah he went
to a grocery store and picked up two
dozen eggs as well yeah
so these buses are cool because you
could see people loading and offloading
not just themselves and their bags but
also it has a top area where you can
drop off things as well
um we'll look on top of the bus oh the
top of things hope they don't drop off
but you hopefully secure them up there
but so you don't have to take up an
extra seat if you have a big suitcase or
something like that so that was funny
just to see him do all the errands and
after he went did all the errands he
went much faster than he was going
before to kind of make up the time so
I didn't mean to scare you but
what the heck is that I think that's one
of the wild turkeys
in a tree
yeah yeah I guess turkey's gonna be in
trees yeah we see a lot of wild animals
we've seen uh plenty of I think they're
called coatsis yeah
um I don't think that's their full name
but that's I think that's what their
name is we've also seen some of these
wild turkeys
um don't really want to see a Jaguar out
here in the jungle but it is uh an
option it is a probability now we're
going up to the platform area which I
don't see an official name but the sign
out there said we're in the Lost World
okay we knew that and then it says the
Great Pyramid of the lost world so I
don't know that's what the sign is this
but we're excited we're finally here we
saw this from Temple four when we're up
at the very top
so let's see if we can see temple four
from this pyramid and what else we can
see from here
this one is a lot more steep
and it's also starting to mist a little
bit
it feels like sprinklers at Disney it's
like a good amount I missed yeah like
it's cooling me off because it's pretty
hot um not the hottest we've ever
experienced but definitely much hotter
than the other areas we've been into in
Guatemala so
we just hope it does a little Mist cools
this off but as it rain because
we want to see as much as we can
almost there
oh wow yeah
four is incredible but so is this View
so we got one yeah
two uh-huh
right three three which we can't climb
it's literally in the center of the
Jungle there
got four over here which we did climb
don't know what that one is
and you can see like the Mist in the
mountains in the background
the dragon there's tons of dragonflies
over here flying around
I love the smell of fresh rain oh
you know what I mean like especially
during the summer like summer fresh rain
like first drops of rain
[Music]
okay we're still at the top or close to
the top of the Great Pyramid here in the
lost world so one thing we forgot to
tell you about when we got our tickets
is they took our money no problem 100
Catal per person in order to be here for
a sunset which is about five or five
thirty and that gives you access to the
park until about seven or seven thirty
but when we got here and we showed them
that our receipt from the bank that we
had our Sunset tickets they said that we
need to have a guide and a guide isn't
just like five or ten bucks it's like
325 quetzales for the both of us so I
think it's like another 50 bucks or so
um to be able to do that and that's more
than the ticket entrance ticket it for
being here during the day more than the
entrance ticket for being here at the
sunset actually it's more than both of
those things combined just for a guide
for what 30 minutes an hour when I don't
need a guide we've already walked around
and we've seen everything we've done our
research ahead of time so I would love
to show you guys this sunset from the
top of the Great Pyramid here in the
lost world looking over temples one two
three all kinds of cool things and the
Sun is looking really really cool
but let's see how long we can be here
before getting kicked out at the front
they said we're supposed to go return to
get our guide and pay for our guide
about 3 30.
right now it is 4 16. I don't really
know I think the sunset is going to set
about 5 30 5 45 so we're going to try to
hold out and see if we can see the
sunset or at least some or most of
golden hour before the cake is out of
the park so stay tuned
[Music]
foreign
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
well we weren't able to stay for the
sunset but that's okay because they gave
us plenty of time to walk back to our
hotel before it got dark get dinner and
go to bed at a proper time now we're
going to go for a little bit of a
morning swim before we explore the area
outside of the national park where
there's plenty of restaurants or at
least one restaurant and there's plenty
of vendors though selling souvenirs so
we're gonna check that out right after
our swim
[Music]
thank you
[Music]
here is Commodore tikau so most of the
time when you're doing your research
you'll see this big food court area now
you might see online that there is a
bunch of different uh food options but
that is like outside of the entry gate
that's like way down the street I think
it's a pretty good walk so realistically
this is the main restaurant you have in
the actual Park area and staying at one
of the I believe three hotels and uh
here is a cooler so similar to how the
cooler was dropped off our bus driver I
guess there's another cooler this time
in red Rays have you picked up to head
back to Flores there's also this area
that has a museum bathrooms Artisan
Market it says there's a restaurant here
also and a model of the grounds of the
cow
this is right across from the Commodore
tikau it's like the only place that's a
cultural and natural uh
uh recognized site since 1979. wow this
is big yeah
so this kind of shows you what we're
looking at here and how big the grounds
of the cow truly are like I've said it
probably before it's not just one set of
ruins it's an entire huge City so way
back there in the center of the screen
is temple four
you've got this area over here which we
didn't even get to that area yesterday
no that's Zona North day
another area and then in the middle here
now is the center area with temples one
two the Acropolis North day and
Acropolis Central and then right behind
it is the Lost World area
yeah so we didn't even walk all of this
and we ended up walking like five and a
half miles just between like the central
area and the lost world we didn't even
get to this other stuff so definitely
wear your walking boots
um because it's also like rough terrain
still it was a lot of walking but it was
definitely worth it
every time that we go to a market holy
moly look at this sorry
it's like a wild turkey you have your
phone to get it closer
you just have to take our word for it
so every time we go to a market we are
looking for a patch so that we can sew
that onto a blanket later on so let's
see if any of these guys have a souvenir
patch for us
if you have pins we did collect pins for
a little bit of a season but yeah we're
back to our patches and they got the the
buses for the pins two cans parrots to
go
though yeah temple four at least
perfect Wheels you should be here
Christmas is starting
bull
oh the
the whistle oh yeah that's an owl though
whoa there's patches right here
nice
these seem to be more of countries for
the most part right yeah
um if you want North Korea patches here
yeah yeah so this is incense
well hello yeah
so we have a coffee stand over there if
you just need coffee some drinks too in
the park there were also little stands
with like chips and water and Gatorade
Gatorade we got like an awesome kind of
off-brand yeah
so the off-brand Powerade was 25
katsalis and in the water a bottle of
water uh which was tenkatesales yeah
so apparently there's another restaurant
yeah
it's got great light great natural
Lighting in here these are nice just a
little design oh and this is the kind of
water bottle that Nikki has remember
yeah loves this water bottles yeah still
haven't found a patch yet
but it looks like there's a lot more
stores that are usually open there's
just a handful open in the morning so if
you come in the afternoon probably
you'll have more options but let's check
this last one out see if we can find
something here
oh my goodness yay look
yeah the Guatemala one which we already
have they have a square Tikal one and
they have the circular ones
and it has like different uh maybe
Warriors or something but then you have
the actual pyramid is it uh uh pyramid
okay okay
which one you like the best it's kind of
cool that there's one with just the
in the shape of the pyramid that's not I
don't think we've had anything like that
I like the one with the toucan but I
think that's the one we should get let's
get it all right let's get it they got
little earrings in the shape of the
people and they're little Weepies and
they're skirts it's so cute
oh okay okay yeah she's been closed for
two months and today's her first day
back opening she was in another location
and she already has a first sale on her
first day we're her first sale
so we got all this for 75 casales we
have been falling in love with cuate and
Tikal is one of the many reasons why I
mean how often are you able to
experience the history of a city while
being completely surrounded by the
forest or see the filming location of
one of your favorite movies much like in
its Heyday takal is more than just
temples it just looks different these
days you can still eat shop at the
market and even sleep here all among
nature you can see this site with their
feet on the ground or high above the
trees
thank you for watching this video this
is weedy travels what could possibly be
next
