beautiful blue water world-class diving
parasailing jet ski riding snorkeling
amazing culture and over 1700 islands to
explore the florida keys is filled with
a little something for everyone whether
you visit for the water adventures a
relaxing escape or a spring break
destination so the first spot that we
went when we got to the florida keys was
the backyard cafe at key largo fisheries
they're known for the best lobster roll
stephen ordered it like a croissant blt
with lobster and then mahi mahi tacos so
that's what i got it was 10 out of 10
you guys highly recommend coming here
for a nice lunch on a beautiful day like
this in the keys
and it's a great start to our trip here
and we're going to be taking you along
for the next five days on the best
things to do around the florida keys
this is the perfect spot especially for
driving from miami which is where we
flew into and driving all the way to the
florida keys it's known for being one of
the best fish houses in the area and
they typically have a musician outside
it's a really nice vibe and ambience and
it's perfect place for for couples and
families after we finished up having
some lunch we drove down to john pen
camp coral reef state park
[Music]
there's a ton of stuff to do here and
it's all in the water you can go
kayaking through the mangroves there's a
cool little kayak trail right over here
but the main thing that there is to do
is go check out the coral weave and the
cool statue out there it is super
important that you guys make sure you
get your reservations early we just got
here it's one o'clock and everything is
sold out there's not really anything you
can do except go kayaking in the
mangrove so if you guys are coming here
it's important to know that to book the
reservations three to seven days in
advance especially because we're here in
march it is technically spring break for
florida so we want to make sure that we
book everything in advance so lesson
learned but we're gonna go keep cruising
they also have cool opportunities where
you can go on a glass bottom boat and it
takes you through so you can look
straight down if you don't know how to
swim or if you guys don't want to hop in
the water that day and the kayak rentals
the boat launches and the glass bottom
tours happen about every hour and a half
throughout the day starting at 9am and
going all the way until sunset or if you
want to just relax there is a pretty
nice beach there it does get very
crowded but the water there is super fun
and you can go snorkeling on your own
without even going on a tour our first
day there we were staying at the los
siesta resort we love this spot
especially because it was in a good
centralized location near isla murata
but not too far down towards the key
west area where we could still do a lot
of activities in the start of the
florida keys so it was about 30 minutes
away from key largo right in isla murata
and then continue down to do some of the
major snorkeling spots it was about like
a 10 to 15 minute drive all right you
guys we just got here
to our hotel at la siesta
look at this place we got a beautiful
couch
got a whole living room over here a full
kitchen and up the stairs
we have an extra room over here
the master and this is the best part
not a bad view at all look at that
the beach is right there
so we just finished planning out the
rest of our trip we have a lot in store
we're going paragliding jet skiing
snorkeling dolphin watching you name it
but right now we are just down the road
from our hotel this is a sister resort
it's the postcard inn and they have a
tiki bar which are known for their rum
runners so we're gonna go try some and
then grab some dinner let's go and so
that's where we went right after we
checked into our hotel because
apparently it's like the thing to try
this is the og rum runner it's a really
good cocktail the next day one of our
favorite things that we did was going
snorkeling out of alligator reef with
sundance water sports
[Music]
we just got here to sundance water
sports and we are going to be taking you
guys snorkeling it's right next to
robbie's we started out at the beginning
of the florida keys and this whole video
we're going to be taking you all the way
down until we get to key west so excited
to jump in the water we didn't get to
yesterday at john pen camp state park so
super excited to see how the water and
the snorkeling is here this is about a
three hour tour so we did the 9 30 a.m
to 12 30 p.m tour and we had more than
enough time to get out snorkel in two
different spots and still enjoy and
shoot content while we were out on a
boat which is really fun the water is
like the bluest water i've ever seen
we've been to the caribbean lake tahoe
iceland like this blows everything out
of the water on a calm day and we talked
to a world-class diver out there he
actually said one of his favorite spots
to go in the entire keys was at
alligator reef so if you guys are in
isla murada this is the spot you do not
want to miss for snorkeling there was a
cool lighthouse out there and if we went
under the lighthouse there were tons and
tons of fish ranging from small fish all
the way up to as big as barracudas and a
couple smaller shark and the crew was
super fun as well so we highly recommend
checking out sundance water sports and
we'll go ahead and link them down below
once you finish up your tour in the
afternoon something that everyone told
us we had to go and do was go get lunch
at robbie's marina which is where
sundance water sports actually takes off
so it's super convenient and then you
also have to go feed the tarpon fish at
robbie's we're at robbie's marina and
everyone told us to come out here and
feed the tarpon so we just got a bucket
of fish we're gonna head down to those
nets and then we're gonna go feed them
and hopefully not get attacked by
pelicans look at all these guys
get out of here what are you doing so
we're gonna take the fish
we're gonna feed the tarpon
so you can go get a bucket of fish from
the dock and then you go out and there's
these giant nets and i had never heard
of a tarpon before or like cena tarpon
these things are huge but you basically
have to watch out for a ton of pelicans
and like stick your hand through net and
feed these tarpons they jump up and yeah
it's just a fun little activity that the
keys are really known for so you have to
do it when you're there the restaurant
itself was called the hungry tarpon
really good food expect it to be a
little busy it's a very popular spot
would highly recommend getting there
earlier the better before the lunch rush
comes on in and if you guys can't go to
robbie's another really good restaurant
for lunch in the area is lorelei's and
they're amazing really good fish tacos
and you have to try their frozen key
lime pie we got told to come to
lorelei's by like three or four dozen
dms so here we are we're trying out the
fish sandwich
tacos and then they're famous for their
frozen key lime pie
look at this view
so while we were in islamorada we made
the short 30 minute drive back to key
largo to go to dinner at the fish house
and this was such a cute little spot
like i really enjoyed going in here it's
got a lot of character the owner was
really really nice and her server was
great and they're known they were in
diners drive-ins and dives
and it was a really good restaurant they
were my favorite key lime pie too it was
our first one but you have to get the
coconut one that one's really good i
really enjoyed it another really cool
thing to do about 45 minutes down the
coast from isla murata is visiting the
turtle hospital and marathon
and it's a really cool experience they
offer several tours throughout the day
on the hour
and make sure to book them in advance
because they did sell out really fast
they're basically a rescue rehabilitate
and release facility and they take you
behind the scenes and you get to learn
all about the different types of sea
turtles and what basically is
threatening their populations how we can
help to to save the turtles and to
prevent a lot of the things that are
happening to them and then you can go in
and meet all the patients that they have
and kind of see their facilities they
even have turtle ambulances they have
x-ray machines and on the operating room
so it's really cool to see the
behind-the-scenes process and they have
over like 50 turtles right now that
they're rehabilitating whether it's
because of boat strikes because of a
symptom called bubble butts or this very
common virus among sea turtles
abbreviated fp because i know i'm going
to butcher the name but it was very
informative and it definitely gives you
a new appreciation for these sea
creatures and would highly recommend i
think kids would really like this kind
of tour
and anyone that loves the ocean yeah it
was actually one of the first turtle
hospitals in the entire us and set
really good precedent for what happened
over the next 10 to 20 years so really
cool story behind how it turned from a
motel into the turtle hospital but
you'll have to go and check it out for
yourself so when you're on your way
after the turtle hospital from marathon
to key west we'd highly recommend
stopping at baja honda state park it's
about nine dollars for two people to
enter they have kayaking and snorkeling
tours that you can reserve or you can
just uh hang out on the beach really
nice beautiful blue water when it's not
windy outside unfortunately the wind was
against us half this trip but
it happens so definitely recommend
checking it out staying there for a few
hours
and it's a nice little halfway point to
break up your drive
so when you're visiting the keys we
would recommend in terms of timing like
probably giving yourself a day or two in
key largo that way you can also stop and
do some optional add-ons if you want to
do the everglades national park biscayne
national park and then i would recommend
probably doing two days in isla murada
that way you give yourself some buffer
if one day is a little too windy to get
out on the water but you definitely want
to get out on the water there and then
finally giving yourself two to three
days in key west as well because the
water out there is absolutely stunning
in terms of total like driving timeline
it probably takes about two hours to get
to key largo from miami another 45
minutes to get to isla murata from there
and another two hours to get to key west
so in total you'll probably be looking
around a six hour drive time if you're
just going from miami to key west the
nice thing is if you don't want to hit
all those other spots and you just want
to get into key west is there's actually
a pretty small airport there so that is
one thing to know if you're not looking
to check out all the florida keys like
we did well let's jump into key west
because there's so many gems there so in
key west there's a couple different
areas you can stay we decided to stay at
parrot key which is a little bit off the
main drag we just checked in here at the
parrot key resort in key west and wow
our room is stunning you guys are going
to get a little tour in a second love
this view already they give you
complimentary sangria when you check in
which is awesome and yeah we're going to
be staying in key west for the next two
days of our trip doing a lot of water
sports hopefully weather pending as long
as the wind isn't too bad we're gonna
have some parasailing snorkeling jet
skiing and the sort so we're really
excited to be here and can't wait to
take you guys around with us
[Music]
you want to stay here in the main drag
there are a bunch of hotels airbnbs and
other options that are right off the
main street the main street is called
duval street so if you guys are looking
for anything near the main drag if you
want to go bar hopping look for a little
bit more of the party scene make sure to
stay near duval street the parking town
there is absolutely horrendous like any
big city like santa barbara los angeles
you know the parking is terrible and
it's expensive so if you guys are
renting a car we rented a car from the
miami airport and dropped it off at key
west airport just know that you're gonna
have a harder time parking if you're not
staying in the area where the main drag
is two of the best sunset spots to go
when you're visiting key west are fort
zachary state park and mallory square
they're very close to each other and
they offer very similar views of the
sunset so you guys can kind of choose
mallory square is definitely gonna be a
little more crowded a little less
peaceful i would say and then fort
zachary definitely offering a little
more of a refuge for sunset less people
quieter crowd that kind of thing we
decided to go to fort zachary based on
our concierge's recommendation and it
did not disappoint it was beautiful it's
right outside of the area where you can
see all the sailboats passing by
and yeah you'll get a real treat the
next day we decided to go with the
all-in-one trip and this is a pretty
cool experience we went with honest eco
and you got to go dolphin watching you
got to ride on a sailboat you got to go
snorkeling and you got to go kayaking so
it was a really fun experience to be
able to see so many different things all
in one tour what we really liked about
this tour is that not only did you get
to do all these different activities but
the honest eco like tour company itself
really tries to provide a lot of
education about the the reefs the
surrounding area of the keys and
basically like
gives you a lot of background
information on what you're going to be
snorkeling through kayaking through
a lot about marine life both of our
guides were really awesome one thing to
note is that you are going to want to
check conditions for the day when we
were there it was super windy the day
prior so the water had kind of like
we're calling it like blue milkshake
color compared to the usual crystal
clear blue water so you might want to
wait and reschedule if you guys do have
conditions like we had almost our last
day there so we just wanted to get out
in the water and experience it as much
as we can we got to see some mangroves i
think we saw at least 10 to 15 different
types of birds the snorkeling there was
pretty good we saw some lobster not as
crazy as alligator reef but it is just a
little bit of a different type of
experience and the cool part about key
west is it never gets really deep the
deepest is going to get is maybe 30 feet
down but for the most part when it's low
tide and high tide it can range between
one to two feet at some of the kayaking
areas we went to all the way up to like
10 to 12 feet is the
is what you're gonna see for the most
part out there which makes dolphin
watching really really easy so earlier
the all in one adventure with honest eco
was phenomenal we had so much fun like i
said in the water it was a little windy
so it was hard to kind of uh see
everything down below but we are at one
of the coolest places in the key west
now this spot is called sunset key so
it's supposed to be the best spot to see
the sunset and there is a restaurant out
here called latitude that apparently is
really hard to get reservations to so if
you guys are planning on coming we
recommend planning out six months in
advance to try and get a reservation
here we're gonna bring you along for the
journey hopefully we get an awesome
sunset and some good food here we go we
were we were very lucky that we had
reservations and got to experience this
we had a table right out next to the
water are you excited for some fuji oh
yeah you got the best scene in the house
look at this
and it was a very stunning experience
and the food was fantastic
all right i got the lobster
g got the what i got the french onion
soup
we got some nice little bread in here
and this is our view
look at that it's really hard to get
sunset reservations there like g said
but if you guys don't mind going at a
different part of the day we heard
breakfast and lunch is much easier to
get reservations on our last day we had
a few more things to knock off so we
started the day by heading back to key
west in the marina was our tour operator
for parasailing we decided to go with
sebago water sports and it was really
nice it was a group tour so you get
about 10 minutes up in the air super
relaxing yeah
we're parasailing i don't know if you
can hear us but
it is not an adrenaline activity you
guys parasailing is very relaxed you're
up in the air enjoying the views if you
want more of a thrill this is not your
water sport
we'll get into the thrills later the
nice thing about paraceland though is
you do get that bird's eye view because
cute the entire florida keys is flat or
if you just want to be able to get out
and see key west from a different
perspective we would highly recommend
make sure to wear swimsuits because
they'll dunk you
next up we went jet skiing right after
that we're about to go jet skiing in the
state of florida you actually need a
temporary boater's license in order to
operate a jet ski so i'm officially a
temporarily licensed florida boater
so we're gonna head out we're doing a
double jet ski with barefoot billies we
just watched our safety briefing we're
waiting for the people to come back in
they're just returning from the earlier
tour and then we're gonna hop on i've
never been on a jet ski so this should
be fun
let's go
so we headed on over to another the
other side of key west and went over to
barefoot billy's water sports to go and
do the full i think it was an hour and a
half to two hour jet ski around all of
key west this was our favorite thing we
did i think the whole time it was so
much fun you can do single or double jet
skis we did a double jet ski it was a
pretty fun experience if it is a any
type of windy it or choppy out there it
is live it was very difficult to stay on
neither of us had ever ridden a jet ski
before so it was super fun to be able to
knock that off our bucket list out in
key west right after that we finally got
to enjoy some down time on the beach at
smathers beach they call this spring
break beach but they do have a lot of
rentals available with sunset water
sports so you can get like a little uh
umbrella a towel
some shade you know go in and out of the
water if you're looking for that or you
can just bring your own they also have
kayak rentals and supp rentals there too
if it's not too windy outside it's a
nice little beach lots palm trees lots
of space it wasn't too busy for us when
we were there but they call it spring
break beach for a reason it's one of the
only spots in the entire key west that
actually is a sandy beach so if you guys
are looking for more of that relaxation
on the beach rather than at the pool or
on a boat then we would highly recommend
checking this spot out if you guys are
visiting key west and you have the
foresight to make reservations very far
in advance to go out to dry tortugas
national park would highly recommend
unfortunately uh we didn't get to do it
this trip we're hoping to do it another
time back in the keys but everyone says
it's absolutely stunning totally
underrated uh but you do have to book
this out like six months in advance
usually because reservations are so slim
you either can get out there by a
seaplane or by ferry
so just you can book it ahead of time if
you guys want to go you can either camp
or just do a day trip out there but we'd
highly recommend checking it out i know
we're going to try our best to go back
and see it because we're trying to hit
all the national parks although i do
believe is it it's a little a little
expensive to get out there because of
the fuel costs but everyone we've talked
to said it's really worth it and those
depart from key west and that is it for
our florida keys video we did a little
road trip from miami all the way down to
key west and flew out of key west back
to california so it was an amazing trip
the culture there was so much fun people
were amazing the water is to die for if
there's one thing to do when you get
there is get on a boat just enjoy the
water for a few days so yeah and we hope
you enjoyed our florida keys road trip
and if you guys like this video make
sure to hit that thumbs up button and
subscribe to our channel it really helps
us out a lot and we will see you back
next week with another adventure
