in this video i'm going to show you how
to stuff
a very large sleeping bag into a
relatively small stuff sack this video
is all about
stuffing a sleeping bag into a stuff
sack how to do it efficiently without
killing yourself and i'm going to show
you a couple of tricks i've used
this video was suggested by one of my
subscribers on my youtube channel
also check out my rumble channel as well
i've got to cover all the bases here
so i've got a western mountaineering
puma bag here this thing
is rated to minus 20 or minus 25 degrees
fahrenheit and this thing is really huge
i've got a sea to summit
event bag in the xl size you can see
oh maybe you can see it here there you
go there is the xl size
and i'm going to show you how to stuff
this huge bag in here now
you may have struggled with jamming your
sleeping bag into this bag
but what i do is in adventure expedition
1 my
book actually talk about all these
little tips and tricks
of how to have a good time in your
expedition check out the links below
in the comment the description of the
video
so for my book so normally what you
would do
is you'd be trying to jam your sleeping
bag into this stuff sack
and you'd be trying to stuff it in there
and it's going to pop out
and you'll just never get the sleeping
bag in there
because you can already see the stuff
sag is full and i haven't gotten put the
very top of the sleeping bag in here
so here are the couple tricks to how to
do this correctly
so you don't end up killing yourself and
you don't want to have to throw your
sleeping bag away
basically the first tip is
always always stuff the sleeping bag
from the foot
in first why do i have this foot of the
sleeping bag first
because if i put the top or the head of
the sleeping bag
into the stuff sack the air begins
pillowing up into the foot of the bag
making it impossible to jam that thing
in
so that is the first trick is stuff
the foot in of the sleeping bag
into the stuff sack now get it a little
bit
mushed and what you do is take your hand
and drive
that bag all the way to the bottom of
the sleeping bag
that's how you get started and what i'm
going to do is i'm going to start a
timer and show you how long it takes
me to put a minus 20 minus 25 degree bag
into this stuff sack using these tips as
i go so the first tip
always put the foot in do not put the
head in in unless you want to suffer
ready to start the timer let's go
alrighty so this would be me
stuffing the foot end of my sleeping bag
into the stuff sack now as you can see
my stuff sack is already full but i'm
actually doing better than i was doing
by just stuffing the head of the
sleeping bag
so now what you do is you take that
stuff
sack and you mush it down a bit and then
you begin
literally shoving not on top but grab
handfuls of fabric and jam it down the
side
and then what you do is don't keep
working from one side
but work from the other side as well
so you don't end up piling on one side
and then you keep
jamming like this on one side
and you keep pushing the fabric all the
way down to the bottom
you flip it over you use your other arm
because your right arm is getting tired
and then you keep pushing your arm way
down into the bag
rather than on top and that what that
does is it
also squishes some of the down you can
see that the head of the sleeping bag
is all foofed out and here is my next
trick
to getting this thing in there is use
your chest
the biggest weight of your body and
literally
boom now as you can see i've already got
the sleeping bag in here but this thing
is still
twice as big as it needs to be for me to
even put this in my backpack
so what i do is i keep the top open
you watch a feather poof out and then
you literally
use your entire body weight to crush
this thing
and then jam it in there and what you do
is you see the fabric getting hung up
roll the sleeping bag inside
and now because the event fabric you
don't want to close it up
because it'll balloon up just leave it
open fold it over
push it again use your body weight
and literally keep going
until either you can't breathe and
you're going to pass out or it stops
collapsing
and good you get it all jammed in there
you open it
top so it pushes down you roll this
fabric up you uh
get the belt or the buckle snagged i've
done that 100 times and i get this
locked in here but it's going to start
expanding
so you need to work efficiently and fast
and then i roll the top on and i get it
snagged up on each of these straps
and then again i crush the bag with my
entire body
keep pushing it down keep pushing it
down
and mush it and according to western
mountaineering
this will not hurt the down
as long as the down is dry if the down
is wet you have a problem
i'll put a link below to my video on
how to dry out your sleeping bag but now
come on baby you can see i got snagged
up there so you can actually roll it
down even more
you can mush the heck out of this bag so
all of a sudden
and timer stop there you go
i have now crushed this massive minus
20-25 sleeping mag
in the western mountaineering puma into
this
xl sea to summit even bag
and this will now fit in my backpack
so again here is my book adventure
expedition one on how to do all these
things and more
winter camping and adventuring and
climbing and being in the outdoors
and now you know how to properly rapidly
and easily
stuff your massive sleeping bag into a
relatively small stuff sag
