♪ Guess what we're doing today! ♪
So, as most of you know We are currently on a very long distance road trip
from Northern Michigan all the way to Los Angeles, California.
Then heading north to Washington, Montana and back to Michigan eventually.
Today's video is all about how to prepare for a road trip with your dogs.
You can also use this with how to prepare for overnight stay long distance trips.
Basically is the same.
How to prepare for an epic adventure with your dogs.
The first thing we are going to need is a dog bag. That's right! A dog bag.
Sometimes it's just easier when you are traveling. Specially when you are going for a long distance trip.
We're going to be gone for 14 days, you guys!
Fourteen (14) days! So this is going to be the dogs suitcase!
The dog bag, everything we will be bringing for the dogs,
we will put it right into that bag and that way will always be in one place.
Makes it a little bit easier for these long distance trips.
The next thing you will need which is probably one of the most important things you will need is...
Make sure you are packing enough food for each dog.
One (1), so you don't have to stop along the way trying to find food.
Two (2), so you'll have it.
Give me that!
That's not yours!
The next thing you will need is some food bowls and dishes.
What is not pictured here is my travel water bowl.
I will put an affiliate link to it down below.
But, I have my water bowls. Our regular size food dishes.
We use those when we are actually at the hotels.
And then we'll use little travel bowls and pocket sized water travel bowls.
When we actually have to feed them or give them water in the car.
These are kind of nice because they collapse.
We do feed our dogs three (3) times a day.
Because we'll be traveling between eight (8) to ten (10) hours on the road each day,
it's nice to have these little bowls.
What you think? Are you ready for an epic road trip?
How about you? Ready for an epic road trip?
Alright, let's keep going through the stuff!
Next on the list and again, some of the first things may seem pretty obvious.
But, it is a list so we don't forget all our collars, harnesses, leashes.
I'm bringing the LED collars. You guys had seen these!
That light up and are pretty cool!
Bringing those as well for the night time out to the potty trips.
And then my walking belt.
This is actually a 'skijoring belt' and I got it from AlpineOutfitters.net
There's a coupon code down in the video description below.
I will also have some affiliate links to some of these things you can get on Amazon.
So you can see some of our road trip stuff if you guys wants to check that out.
But, I'm bringing short leashes. These are the four (4) foot leashes.
Then we will also be bringing six (6) foot leashes for each of the dogs.
All the stuff! Don't forget the things!
Now, onto some of the things that might not be as obvious!
Food toppers!
Some dogs are very picky! When they travel they don't like to eat.
We always try to bring a variety of food toppers.
These are the best when traveling cause you don't actually...
You don't eat it!
You know, actually open it up. It's just in a little packet.
Then, I also have some little canned foods and I'm going to bring a lid for those as well.
All of the hotels we're staying at, has little mini fridges
and will be able to use those for like the breakfast and lunch food toppers.
Those are important for Miss Shelby! Right Shelby?
She's like: "Hey! I would like some of that right now!"
"Right now would be good!"
Of course along with food toppers, treats! Gotta have treats!
This one (Kira) is learning to be potty trained. Gotta have something to reward them while they travel.
To go along with the treats, I'm bringing three (3) 'KONGS' and a giant thing of peanut butter!
These are super nice to have when you are traveling.
They can keep your dogs calmed at the back of your vehicle. But also at hotel rooms.
If you have a dog that is a little bit louder and has a problem getting settled, these helps a lot!
Little bit of peanut butter and a 'KONG' can go a long way to keep the dogs happy!
You can also buy some bigger treats that you can stuff them with and make it harder to get out.
But I do like to take these whenever we travel and take the dogs to hotels.
Speaking of being calmed while traveling...
'Adaptil' travel spray! This stuff is great!
One of the things I don't have in here to show you actually...
Actually I do!
I have two (2) of those dog beds in the back of my vehicle.
Just to keep them comfortable while they ride in the back of the 'Jeep'
cause, we're driving across the country with three (3) dogs.
We spray this stuff on their bed every morning, before we leave.
About 15 to 20 minutes before we leave.
it just kind of helps calm them down a little bit when they first get into a car.
You really want to do anything you can to make the ride and the trip as less stressful on the dogs as you can.
Also speaking of that because I know a lot of you are going to ask.
By the way, leave your questions in the comments down below. I will try to answer them as I can.
Stopping with the dogs!
We will be stopping specially because we have a puppy,
about every three (3) hours, every three (3) to four (4) hours depending if she's sleeping.
We will let her (Kira) sleep and then stop when she wakes up.
The plan is to stop about every three (3) hours to let them out.
Probably will stop for about fifteen (15) to twenty (20) minutes at each stop.
Let them go to the bathroom, let them stretch their legs.
It's also really good for us.
If the puppy was full grown, we would probably stretch those out to about four (4) to five (5) hours stops.
Really again, that just depends on you and your dog and what your dog is comfortable with.
Some dogs needs to get out of the car way more than that.
Ours are pretty good travelers!
Speaking of being good travelers... TOYS!
Don't forget to bring a couple of toys for your dogs to play with.
Either to chew on the back of the car or even to keep them busy once you get to your hotel room.
It is nice to have something for them to be able to be happy in the room.
I might think of something else that you guys are probably asking about.
Hotels with three (3) dogs? Yes! Many hotels have a two (2) dogs (per room) limit.
All you have to do is, call ahead.
Call ahead and ask to speak to a manager and explain your situation if you have more than two (2) dogs.
Or if they have a one dog limit and you have two (2) dogs.
Tell them that you will pay the extra pet fee.
A lot of times we had found that most hotels are very accommodating to people with an extra dog or two (2).
Is the same thing with weight limits.
If your dog is a little bit over the weight limit, just call them and ask.
Usually they're really, really nice! We have good luck in a lot of the hotels we had called.
They're just really friendly and hey! If they tell you "NO!' Just call another pet friendly hotel!
That's what you got to do!
You know what these are?
These are the most important thing to take whenever you do a road trip or travel anywhere with dogs.
Poop bags! Remember! Be responsible and always clean up after your dogs.
Always! Specially at pet friendly hotels!
Specially anywhere you go!
But, if people are more responsible and clean up after their pets.
Then slowly but surely, pets will be allowed to go to more places!
"Musher's Secret!"
We are going to be going to a lot of places and we're going to be outside hiking with the dogs.
Some of the places may be warm. So, will be doing a lot of cement checking.
This helps protect their paws.
We're still not going to walk them outside when is '90 million degrees.'
We're going to check the cement as always!
But, this will help in some of those areas to protect their little tootsies!
So, because we are traveling with a puppy and our puppy is belt trained,
we're making sure to bring a set of our 'Poochie Bells'
[jingle sounds]
To hang on the door, so Kira can let us know when she needs to go outside!
And because she is a puppy...
Paper towel and 'Nature's Miracle' just in case any accidents do happen!
Yes, we're staying at hotels but, if our dogs makes a mess, we want to be able to clean it up on our own.
You cannot eat these paper towels! We may need them if you have an accident!
You're really on a roll tough!
You haven't had one in a long time so hopefully this trip doesn't screw you up!
A few other things that we're bringing? A brush, because...
You know! They gotta look beautiful when they meet you guys!
Some wipes and again same thing! They got to look beautiful!
Some of their conditioning spray. We use these before the brush and then a towel.
Because the last time we traveled we didn't have a towel and the dogs got all muddy.
I really wished we had one, so now we have a towel.
You cannot eat everything!
Alright, we got one more thing to show them!
Last but, not least...
Our doggie first aid kit!
I will put actually a link up in the cards above and down in the video description below
to the video where we actually made this and put it together.
It's got a lot of bunch stuff on it, but not going through all.
Like I said, we did another video on that, so you guys can go and check that out.
And now... We're going to finish packing!
Alright you guys, that is all we have for you today!
I know every time we take a trip, lot of you guys ask: What we bring and how do we prepare?
This is not a camping trip!
These is a long distance road trip and we will be staying at hotels across the way.
This is some of the things we're using to prepare.
As I said earlier, leave your questions in the comments down below.
We will be traveling and will be busy,
but I will to try to read most of them and try to respond to them as I can thought the week!
Alright you guys! We hope you enjoyed today's video.
As always...
Thanks so much for watching! Thanks for subscribing!
Stay positive and dream big! We will see you again soon!
You guys aren't going to be able to do this in the back of the car for hours on end, so...
We're going to have to make sure you'll get a good W-A-L-K.
That's just going to have to happen!
