if you're going on an Alaskan cruise
then you probably know that packing is a
bit of a challenge after all you want to
make sure that you have the right
clothing and gear for your excursions
for on the cruise ship and you probably
want to do that without over packing now
don't worry I'm keeping it real I have
everything that we brought on our seven
day Alaska cruise right behind me and
I'm sharing it all with you today
[Music]
hi there I'm Ilana from the website
lifewallcruise.com welcome or welcome
back to my channel now we recently came
back from our very first Alaska cruise
it was absolutely amazing and what I'm
gonna do in today's video is really show
you the outfits that I wore on the
cruise I'll also show you a few things
that my husband and son brought in case
that that can help as well and I know a
lot of people have asked what are the
things that maybe you brought and you
didn't wear so I'm going to share that
as well now since a lot of the clothing
for Alaska is bulky I have to say that
packing was a bit more of a challenge so
something that I will also do is show
you how I packed my suitcase for my
Alaska cruise now before I get started I
wanted to mention two things firstly
this video is being sponsored by level
eight luggage I've worked with them
before and I absolutely love their
luggage but more on that later on in the
video and secondly if you like this
video if you find it helpful informative
Orange enjoyable in any way then please
do give this video a big thumbs up I
really do appreciate it and please
subscribe to the channel if you haven't
done so already let's get started so the
first thing that you need to know when
it comes to planning and packing your
outfits for an Alaska cruise is that
Alaska cruises really are more casual
than Caribbean and Mediterranean Cruises
now I love to wear cute dresses when I'm
on a lot of the Caribbean cruises that I
go on but I have to say I pretty much
left that kind of thing at home in favor
of really comfortable clothing because I
do think that that is the most important
when you are in Alaska now even Cruise
lines that are a little bit more
traditional like princess and Holland
America you'll notice that even in the
evening time while people will dress up
a little bit they are not going to be as
dressy as they might be on another
itinerary now don't worry I will be
sharing what I brought along with some
outfits for some inspiration what to
pack for the day during your Alaska
cruise now something to think about for
your Alaska cruise is you're going to
need clothing for the day on the cruise
ship but you're also going to need
clothing for your excursions and
something a lot of people forget about
is to plan for your embarkation day now
if you're embarking from Seattle or from
Vancouver there's a good chance that you
may have some rain especially if you are
going in May early June and later on in
the season in late August September and
October now something that I suggest is
bring a light puffer jacket with a hood
now this is quite nice because it's
water repellent so it was great if it
rings a little bit I could also put some
layers underneath if it got cold which
it did get a little bit at the time of
year that I went but this is really good
to have almost for any time of year when
you go to Alaska because the mornings
can be very cool and if you're going
Glacier viewing you'll definitely want
something that is warm and cozy now
you'll also want to pack a couple of
sweatshirts and I really do think that
fleece works really well it's nice and
warm and cozy so I bought a couple of
fleece sweatshirts so a couple in a
couple of different colors that can zip
up I really like that because I can
unzip it I could keep a t-shirt
underneath I could keep a long sleeve
t-shirt underneath so those are really
great layering pieces now being honest
when it came to the sweatshirts I
probably brought one too many I brought
a total of four sweatshirts and I think
I really could have easily done with
three and now when I came to pants for
my Alaska cruise I was pretty boring
definitely no fashionista and I brought
some jeans those were really great for
during the day and I also brought a few
pairs of leggings I think I had three
pairs of leggings and one of the pairs
of leggings was fleece lined now while I
didn't bring a pair of shorts for my
Alaska cruise simply because I checked
the weather before I went if you are
heading there during the summer there's
a good chance that you are going to want
to bring your shorts so do take a look
at the weather and consider bringing one
or two pairs of shorts and some T-shirts
now for during the game my husband and
son also brought some fleece sweatshirts
really really handy for day wear and of
course a light puffer jacket as well now
when it came to the evenings on my seven
day Alaska cruise we had two formal or
dressy nights and we had five casual or
smart casual evenings now as I mentioned
earlier level 8 is sponsoring this video
I absolutely love their luggage since I
tried it about a year ago I use it all
the time and always recommend it now
they recently sent me this absolutely
gorgeous set it's from the Voyager
collection this is absolutely coming on
my next cruise and I have this in a 26
inch Czech luggage size and a 20 inch
carry-on size now one of the things that
is so cool about this suitcase is the
fact that it has this telescopic really
wide handle so that when you do pack
inside this luggage that you can
actually fit so much more in that
backspace now the luggage is such good
quality it's lightweight and it has a
durable scratch resistant hard shell the
wheels are ultra quiet 360 degree
spinner Wheels they roll so well in the
airport as well as the cruise terminal
both the check luggage and the carry-on
size have a TSC approved combination
lock I really like this because even
when you're in the airplane and you put
your carry-on bag in the overhead
compartment you want to make sure that
that is locked and nobody else goes in
especially if you might close your eyes
for a few minutes now in contrast to
some of the other hard shell luggage
that you'll find there's an interior
compression system that will help to
keep your items organized so you can
actually zip up each side of the luggage
and you have pockets as well one of the
really neat things by the way is there
is a wet dry pocket so if you are
swimming on the last day of your cruise
you do have a place to put that now you
can definitely Pack Light for an Alaskan
cruise but it might be a little bit hard
to pack carry-on only the way you could
do for a Caribbean or a Bahamas cruise
so more than likely you'll probably want
to get a set at least to keep one
checked luggage piece for two people now
if you're interested in checking out any
of the level light luggage I will leave
a link Down Below in the description of
my video to their website and they do
also have a discount code it's life well
cruised 10 and you will get 10 off and
by the way as well if you like the
Voyager collection I absolutely love it
but if you get the carry-on size along
with one of the checked luggage pieces
then you also get fifty dollars off
thanks so much to level eight for
sponsoring this video so when it came to
my evening wear I brought a pair of
black pants and I was able to create two
outfits from it so I was able to wear a
white top and as well I was able to wear
the top that I'm wearing now so the this
black sleeveless top and what I did is I
paired them with a couple of tops that I
could wear over my shoulders so sort of
an off-white crocheted cardigan and a
little black I guess Lacy style sweater
I also brought a short sleeve faux wrap
dress I was able to wear this in the
evening along with a three-quarter
length sleeve faux wrap dress now I
particularly like this one because it
doesn't crease at all and it's very easy
to pack now of course I also want to
share with you some of the things that I
brought and I didn't wear so I brought a
long sleeveless Navy dress and really
very comfortable but I didn't end up
wearing it but what I did end up wearing
and I brought it I think I wore for the
day but I brought a red sweater and I
was able to wear my red sweater either
with my jeans or my black pants now
another outfit that I wore and I've
actually worn it on a Caribbean cruise
before and it still worked for Alaska
but is a sleeveless sort of pantsuit
Romper and again I paired that with the
off-white or the cream crocheted
cardigan and I wore one of my favorite
dresses I think it's because I just love
the color blue so much so I wore the
this short sleeve blue dress now when it
came to the shoes I always say I packed
four pairs of shoes but technically I
packed five and in reality I wore four
out of the five I will share with you
why I did not wear that fifth pair so
firstly I did bring my running shoes and
of course I really needed them my
sneakers I think I wore them on
embarkation day and I probably wore them
every single day of my cruise and even
my time when I was in Vancouver now I
also brought a pair of classic black
heels that really could have gone with
every single outfit but I did want some
variety for the evening time now I
always like a pair of nude shoes I just
think that they go with almost
everything so I did bring these heels as
well now I brought my flip-flops and
even though I didn't end up going in the
pool or the hot tub during my cruise I
did end up wearing my flip-flops on the
balcony when it was quite cool in the
morning time and I wanted to get out
there quickly so that was definitely
something I was happy that I brought now
a pair of shoes that I never ended it up
wearing but I probably still would bring
them on a future Alaska cruise is these
waterproof hiking shoes so I decided not
to go with hiking boots that were taller
because of the activities that we had
planned but it really just didn't rain
as much as we thought it could in Alaska
but since then I've spoken to many
people who've gone in the weeks after
and they've had more rain than we did so
definitely something good to have now
some of the gear and accessories that
you'll definitely want to bring is a hat
I did not bring a scarf and I didn't
think I needed it but I definitely did
need to have my hat and as well I also
brought some gloves very handy on an
Alaskan cruise now I know a lot of
people do wonder about thermal wear and
yes my husband and son did bring thermal
wear again in my case because I had my
fleece lined leggings I did wear those
or I could even wear a pair of leggings
underneath my jeans ponchos absolutely a
must so even if you are going to Alaska
in the summertime if it is warmer just
grab some ponchos and throw them in your
backpack you've probably heard me say it
before but binoculars are one of the one
things that I was so happy I brought
with me now when it comes to packing my
luggage I like to use packing cubes as I
do find that it really helps me to not
only organize my items but also to
maximize space now when it comes to
packing most of my clothing the packing
hack that I use is I do prefer to roll
rather than fold my clothing not only do
I find it does seem to save a little bit
of space it makes things more compact
but at the same time when I do arrive at
my cruise cabin I'm able to hang up my
items and almost all the time they
really don't wrinkle now as I pack my
luggage with my clothing I'll also show
you where I pack my cosmetic bag my gear
and a few little space saving tricks
along the way I almost forgot this red
sweater
very handy to have a sweater
on an Alaska cruise
and voila
now for the day wear we can also use a
packing Cube
now the only thing that can get a little
bit bulky is those sweatshirts so what
you can do is you can put some in the
packing Cube but you can also use the
space you have on top of the packing
Cube to put your sweatshirts right there
okay so let's pack everything what I
would do is put all of my evening wear
over here now in this suitcase there is
a separate kind of little shelf area
that you can fold down or up so you can
separate things if you want or leave it
down what I decided to do is on this
side to leave my day wear that's
basically my fleece sweatshirts and that
kind of thing
I do have over here my toiletry bag so
that's if I have any items that maybe
are liquids and I want them to stay
inside of my luggage now
here I've got my leggings and my jeans
I can just kind of put that over here
I've got my cosmetic bag and I can put
that if I want to right on this shelf so
you can see I've got actually quite a
lot of room in this luggage now I have
not yet put my waterproof hiking shoes I
would still bring these because you
never know so I could put these just
about anywhere but I would probably try
to fit them into like a corner of the
luggage so
right here at the bottom
and even on to the side that works well
now normally in a regular piece of
luggage I'm looking for that very bottom
where I can put my flip-flops right at
the bottom that will work but in this
case I can just put them right in sort
of to any of the sides
definitely needs flip-flops
now when it comes to bringing my Dyson
that is going to go in my carry-on bag
where I can lock that up I like to keep
anything that's a little bit more
valuable in my carry-on bag
along with
along with any jewelry that I might
bring
now my other shoes I'm also going to
tuck away into my luggage
now when it comes to the hats that we're
going to bring I am not going to need
them on the plane so I would just put
that in here any of my gears so my
binoculars and my ponchos that's all
going to go right into my luggage I
don't want to have to carry that with me
in my carry-on bag and if I bring any
other Cruise Essentials like magnets and
other things I'm going to have enough
room in my checked luggage as well now I
usually do bring a curling iron and a
brush so I'll be able to put that into
my luggage
as well and when it comes to my puffer
jacket I actually wore mine on my may
cruise because I thought I just didn't
want to have to stuff my luggage anymore
but I definitely would have enough room
to put my puffer jacket in here as well
now a little trick by the way if you're
looking for little spaces where you can
put items you can't always put socks and
other small items in your shoes I almost
forgot to pack underwear and sleepwear
so I'll have enough room for that as
well and it'll be time to zip it out
there we go and on the way home I even
have some extra room for some souvenirs
now I hope that you enjoyed this video
and it gave you a good idea of what and
how to pack for your Alaska cruise I
will leave the link to level eight
luggage Down Below in the description of
this video and the discount code is life
well Cruise 10 for a 10 discount and of
course if you do purchase the set of the
carry-on and the checked luggage of the
Voyager collection there is a 50
discount thank you very much to level
eight for sponsoring this video I do
hope that you enjoyed it if you did
please do give it a big thumbs up I
really do appreciate it and please
subscribe to the channel if you haven't
done so already bye for now and happy
cruising
