i used to be a really bad packer man
back in the day i did not know what i
was doing i was carrying around a
50-pound suitcase
plus a personal item filled with my most
precious items
and outfits that i couldn't bear losing
if they were checked in plus
no one wants to be carrying around a
50-pound suitcase down the stairs on the
london tube
or on a ferry to croatia yeah that used
to be me well i guess it was the old me
trust me i know that we've all been
there and that's why you're watching
this video today
so i've decided to share all my tricks
on how to travel light
for my first tip i suggest you count the
days and pack for half the amount of
time
that you're going for yes you heard me
right so let's say you're going to
europe for two weeks
pack for exactly one week count your
days and count your outfits
and plan every day kind of what your
outfits say let's say you're bringing
four day outfits and three night time
outfits and a couple
you know here and there and traveling
outfits re-wear everything
twice no one is really going to care or
notice but you
and it is a great way on saving a bunch
of room and not over packing this leads
me to my second tip
which is to lay all your outfits out and
to count them i suggest to lay
everything that you're thinking about on
the bed and
put them in piles this is what i do
before i start packing
so i can kind of see how many things of
each item that i'm taking
if i'm taking six shirts and
three skirts and maybe like happens to
be four pairs of pants
i know i have too much why am i taking
all those things why do i need all of
those things
so i really do do a count that's what i
do
and i kind of use this way to mix and
match outfits
which leads me to my third tip which is
to bring pieces that work well with
other pieces
like i said before what i usually do is
i lay out all my clothing on my bed and
i take a look at the pieces that are in
front of me
i take a look at which tops pair well
with which bottoms and back and forth
you know if you're really bringing one
blouse that only matches that one skirt
you're taking a lot of real estate
precious real estate in your suitcase so
definitely take a look at how things are
working together and
trust me you'll be so happy that you'll
thank me later my next tip might seem a
little bit standard but i do suggest to
take a look at the weather before you
start packing is it going to be hot is
it going to be cold is it going to be
rainy
if it is going to be cold just take one
good
coat you definitely don't need to bring
more than one coat my coats are heavy
and they take up a lot of space
of course you can wear a coat when you
go on the plane but definitely don't
over
pack that and don't over pack for winter
shoes one pair is good enough
my fifth tip is probably my favorite
which is using my master packing list
i have created this major perfect
packing list that lives on my computer
it has been something that i've been
adding to over the years and changing
and
it is great particularly for those last
minute trips basically what i do is i
change
everything to red and as things get
packed i change it to black
this has been a game changer for me 100
make a list for yourself it will save
you from over packing and you won't
forget anything that you need
my sixth tip is to not bring too many
shoes you really only need one pair of
nice shoes to go out with
a pair of good walking shoes or
something that you can work out with if
you're planning on working out
and a pair of sandals you really really
only probably need
three pairs of shoes and make sure that
you're bringing shoes that match with
everything
don't over pack on shoes they're super
heavy my seventh tip is to
stop bringing so many toiletries you
really don't need all of that and you
should definitely call
if you're staying at a hotel or an
airbnb they have a lot of things that
you need
they have soap they have shampoo they
have conditioner
especially if you're staying at a really
nice place they probably have some
really nice fancy stuff maybe fancier
things that you already buy
it's great and if you're the type of
person that's bringing a travel hair
dryer please
don't do that don't do that the hotel
and the airbnb have that
and if you're the type of person that's
bringing a big brush like this a full
size
don't do that either there are many
sizes like this that you can buy from
target
and also you can get little travel size
curling irons
it's amazing everyone's already thought
it out for you my next tip is for the
ladies which is to not bring too much
makeup really you don't need all that
makeup to be beautiful
seriously but if you do want to bring
some makeup i know i get you i want to
look good for those instagram photos too
here are my tips on how to consolidate
your makeup because that pouch can get
pretty heavy so first off i like to
bring a small eyeshadow palette
something with four colors you really
don't need more than that
i like to bring multi-purpose items
something that can be used for the eyes
lips and cheek organic makeup is great
for this and then also i like to put my
foundation into mini sample size
containers
this has been a game changer you really
don't need to bring that huge foundation
bottle
to seriously count the amount of pumps
that you think you'll need for the
amount of days that you're going and
you're set
tip number nine is to bring things that
are easy to clean and to bring a little
bar of hand washing soap i do this for
long trips and this has been
such a such a game changer for me as
well i like to do my hand washing at
night and then hang it up while i'm
sleeping and then if things aren't dry
in the morning i just finish it off with
a hair dryer
this totally saves you from over packing
and then saves you from going to the
laundry mat if you're going on a long
trip
my tent tip is probably the most
important one that i do before every
trip which is weighing my suitcase i
usually have a goal weight in mind i
need to go away from my suitcase
that i want to be at before i leave on
the track sometimes i want to leave
enough room for shopping
so what i usually do is i use this
little luggage weight and it helps me
take a look at where i am i take a look
at everything wow what could i do
without sometimes i am so attached to a
certain outfit
but then i realized i probably will only
wear that once on my trip
so i decide to take it out and then what
happens when i get on the trip i don't
even miss that outfit i didn't actually
wear all the things that i thought i was
gonna bring
so you know what there was no point
seriously having a luggage weight
totally helps you save
from over packing well i hope you
