today i'm going to show you how to jump
start a riding lawn mower with your car
please watch the entire video before you
do this as mistakes can result in some
pretty bad outcomes now jumping
incorrectly that may result in exploding
batteries
uh unwanted electrical discharges or
even coming into contact with some
pretty nasty acids let's not have that
so i'll be showing you how to do it as
safely as possible now before i start i
suit up with some gloves and safety
glasses
then i check to make sure that my
lawnmower battery is 12 volts just like
my car battery the car engine must be
off and remain so for the duration of
the jump i park my lawnmower on level
ground and engage the parking brake i
also want to make sure that the mower is
all ready to start and that none of the
safety features are going to interfere
with my efforts i grab my jumper cables
red positive black negative
connect the terminals in the following
order red to positive terminal on
mower battery other end of the red
jumper to the positive terminal on the
car battery do not let the red positive
clamp touch anything any other portion
of the vehicle or you could get a
damaging light show
then the black jumper to the negative
terminal on the car battery
now back to the mower i don't connect it
to the negative mower terminal instead i
connect it to the engine block
when connecting to the engine block i
avoid any fuel lines and anything pretty
anything with pretty red positive wires
so i ultimately connected to a bolt on
the lower portion of my block
on some mowers you may be able to
connect the negative jumper to the frame
of the mower instead
however my operator manual warns
specifically not to do that also some
mower manuals may indicate that you
should not jump your riding lawnmower at
all so be sure to check your operator
manual for any specific manufacturer
recommendations before you start now
once you are all connected turn the key
and
success
now i just disconnect everything in
reverse order black jumper from the
mower
vehicle black jumper
vehicle red jumper and finally mower red
jumper unless you have other issues your
mower will charge while it runs so leave
it running for a little bit if i'm going
to mow then i'll give the battery 10 to
15 minutes on idle before i start
if i wasn't mowing then i just let it
idle for a half hour so if the battery
doesn't charge then you have other
issues most likely lastly jumping a
mower in a pinch is totally fine but
jumping ammo routinely is not a good
idea for the health of your riding
lawnmower this demo is free of charge
but if you could drop me a like i'd
appreciate it
take care
