so hey guys today we have a it's an e350
but this
um
this is pretty much going to be the same
as the f150 f250 even the f450s and 550s
we got um steering
column have taken apart
to do a repair on the lock cylinder this
is what not to do you do not have to
take all this apart i got called in over
here to do this repair um there's
actually a little hole
let me see if i can show you the little
hole see a little hole right there
all right that hole right there and what
that is there's a pin inside of your
steering column and what you would do
is literally that goes right into a
little locking mechanism right there but
what you have to do is
i'll show you how to do it he's already
tried to get in here and do this so
we're going to drill that out so we can
turn the lock cylinder backwards and
unlock it
so i'm going to show you guys how to do
this and then we're going to reassemble
this but you do not have to take any of
this apart to change out a lock cylinder
all you got to do is undo the screws
there's a screw back here screw right
here
drop this bottom piece out right here
and it gives you access to the locking
mechanism underneath so you can actually
see and get a hold of it but that way
you don't have to pull any of the
this is actually your pins for your horn
controls your cruise control all the
other stuff in here
you don't have to take any of that apart
so let me go ahead and get all set up
all we're going to do is we're going to
drill this out
i have to get a couple broken uh pieces
of drill bit out there first and then
i'll show you guys how to replace your
um
your lock cylinder
it can be um there's also i'm gonna show
you inside
that piece right there goes inside a
little
brass or aluminum gear that turns and
controls everything so what you want to
do is when you pull out the old lock
zone you want to make sure you don't
pull the gear out or you have to reset
it in the right place
so if you lost your key don't worry
about it you can do this it's easy to do
what you want to do is go ahead and
drill as you see where i'm going we're
going to drill in
once we get that in there to where the
about the size of the key
so you're gonna about the depth and
width of the key right there so you go
about an inch or so in
and it's only about 3 8 inches wide or
so
don't forget we're gonna go ahead and
i'm gonna
uh don't forget to put something down on
the carpet i stopped so i can go ahead
and put a trash bag down there so i can
catch as much much of the um
drill shavings as possible that we don't
make as big of a mess otherwise you have
to re-vacuum it out but we're just gonna
put a trash bag down
so
all right as you can see right there's a
little bit of gold slivers in there that
means i'm into the actual pins in there
these little brass pins
and when
as you can see it's almost drilled out
it's not much more to go and then we'll
be able to turn the ignition lock so we
can push the pin and pull it out
all right i started out with smaller
bits i'm working my way up soon as i get
a little bit bigger on the bit size i'll
be able to turn the ignition so that we
can unlock the pin
so we're almost there we've got a few
more bit sizes to move up
and then we'll get this out of there and
we'll show you how to put it back
together
all right guys i want to just let you
see i pretty much had to drill all the
way down and as you can see those little
grooves right there where it's shiny
was the leftovers of the pins
um it's pretty much out so i had to put
it back in to turn it off so i can go
pick up something at the parts store
i made a mistake when i was telling you
all you have to turn it back just a
little bit
you have to turn it forward just a hair
and then you can push the pin up and
then it will the cylinder will slide
right out so i'm going to clean up right
up in here we're going to pull this out
and we're going to get the new one ready
to go
all right once you get the lock set
drilled out you're going to take your
little pin screwdriver whatever it is
and it's where the hole is down below
you're gonna literally
push up
once you push that pin up
actually let me back up what you have to
do is you have to turn the ignition on
and hear the vehicle turn on
then you know you're at that point
what you got to do is
then you push up your little pin
once that pushes up like that
your ignition
pull
straight out
yeah once that's out
now what you want to do is make sure you
didn't
that's the little gear in there
okay
this one's a little bit different than
the other but that little gear sometimes
will pop out
so as you see the gear is still in there
so you're good
so what you're going to do is you take
your new key
okay there's the pin that we just pushed
in okay
and it literally will sit just like this
and you want the key to be on on
once it's on on
all you do is you push the pin in
and
slides into place
boom
your keys been changed
hardest part is drilling it out just got
to take your time i pretty much moved up
in bit sizes i started out smaller if
you go too small it did just break off
in there so
as you see
like i was telling you
the person that did this didn't know you
didn't have to take off the steering to
get all this he thought he had taken to
get to that
so we're gonna have to fix and put back
together what he did he pulled out some
pieces here and there so
we're going to take care of that real
quick but that is pretty much how to
change out your ignition cylinder
like i said earlier before
you have to drill it out enough to where
you can turn the key to the on position
or even actually just a little bit
forward and then you can push the little
pin up
sometimes you have to remove this bottom
of your steering column the plastic
piece to get to the pin this one just
happened to have a hole drilled in it
once you push the pin in
it's literally it it just slides right
out so
you
