hi and welcome to Lowe's shop class
basics now if you've built a shop class
project with me you know I use this a
lot it's a miter saw but what exactly is
a miter saw well it's a saw that can cut
a miter or any angled cut in the end of
a board like this 45 degree angle or
more commonly this right angle cut at 90
degrees there's several different kinds
of miter saws there's a single bevel
which tilts in one direction a double
bevel compound which tilts in two
directions and a sliding double bevel
compound miter saw like this one that
essentially doubles the width of its cut
now before you make any cuts some safety
tips anytime you use a miter saw or any
power tool remember eye protection and
hearing protection also secure any loose
clothing jewelry or or hair if you have
it also keep your hands at least six
inches away from the blade and off of
the turntable portion keep your arms
straight don't cross your arms like this
as you cut and then finally support your
workpiece as you cut you can use a an
outfeed table or a a miter saw stand
like I have here and that way the pieces
won't fall away after you cut them
alright now for the cut now before
powering up you want to bring your blade
down and check to make sure you're still
on your mark then bring it back up to
the top position power it up and bring
it down into the wood now if you're
using a sliding miter saw you always
want the sliding motion to be in toward
the fence so power it up bring the blade
down and push it in toward the fence
then let the blade come to a complete
stop before you'd raise it back up again
and there we go some nice clean cuts so
go practice and get familiar with your
miter saw it's a great tool and once
you're used to it you'll be surprised
you could ever live without it well
thanks for joining me on Lowe's shop
