hey you what is everybody it is Zach
tech here and today I'm going to show
you a little trick to use you all to
mainly use any GSM carrier on a CDMA
phone so here I have a t-mobile SIM card
and these are both US cellular phone
boom US Cellular for glt right there and
US Cellular 4G LTE now this is a US
Cellular Samsung Galaxy s3 and this is a
US Cellular Samsung Galaxy axiom so both
of these arm mainly do not support any
odd GSM carriers so if I actually turn
this on wait for that to start up um it
will not work so with these phones if
you want to do a little trick um really
the only thing that you can do is just
well first throw your SIM card see if
that works so here I'm just going to
take out the battery and then insert my
sim card at the top and boom we go
reinsert the battery and then put on the
back turn it on
so while we wait for that I just showed
that this has indeed no sim card Wi-Fi
is off and I have no service and here's
the US Cellular boot animation for the
axiom just wait for this - ah
powerup no I don't want come aware right
now all right
oops so as you can see if I actually
well Wi-Fi is already disabled as you
can see I have bars
it just doesn't give me data so what
we're going to do is we're going to open
this app called offline sim APN and you
can get it on the Play Store it is free
and I'm not connected any network so I
can't do that
but yeah so you just want to open it up
and you have to have your sim card in
there the one that you want to go to let
me click search settings for this APN
we'll say that more than one carrier for
me I have t-mobile so I want to mobile
data blah blah blah
so then unless you have the paid version
all of this stuff like these buttons do
not work except for this one so you're
going to want to click go to Android APN
settings and I will bring you here but
usually it is found under mobile
networks if we go to mobile networks on
here you will see there is no APN
settings and that is because the carrier
tries to hide them from you so you can't
use this use this on anyone elses
networks so what you're going to want to
do is you want to press the Menu key and
then new APM or there be a couple dots
up there so then you fill this out
if you don't know to put in for this
you're going to want to go to well
you're going to want a Google search
light on your carrier's website so I am
actually going to pause the video put
all this in and then I will get back to
you guys all right so I have put in all
my data for this so then what I'm gonna
want to do is press the Menu key and
then click Save and then it's enabled by
default and if you noticed if the camera
didn't unfocus if you look in the
notifications bar now there is actually
a 4G icon which means that I actually
have network connectivity so I can go
onto the Google Play Store there we go
and this is I believe 4G LTE even though
it just says 4G I'm pretty sure it's
still LTE so yeah I only have one
t-mobile SIM card so now let's do it
with the s3 just to show that it works
on multiple phones so again you're going
to want to take off the back cover of
your phone take out the battery and put
the SIM card in till you hear the click
then take the battery put it in the
right way that wasn't the right way come
on there you go cover back on the phone
if you like there we go
power it back on
now usually armed for these phones some
of the times if you actually use custom
roms they will just automatically have
the APM set so you can use it on gsm
networks but if you're running stock on
both of these like I am um you're gonna
have to do this trick and I believe this
works on almost all Android phones
iPhones you're out of luck I believe you
have to either have the carrier unlock
it or you're going to have to buy a new
one
thanks Apple so if I draw my little
pattern here you can see that actually
this one does not give me any bars but
again if I go whoops I go into settings
given more networks and mobile networks
again there is no APN settings so you're
going to want to again get the offline
APN a database app open it actually let
me just turn off Wi-Fi press ok search
APN settings for the sim t-mobile data
okay go to APN settings and then up here
there's a little plus and I believe that
you can know okay so that's just for um
the like Android jellybean and older
that you have to press the menu button
but here I can just tap the little plus
there and there we go
so I'm gonna set in are put in my
information and again it will be right
back so once again I have entered my
information and press the menu button
and click Save and all of a sudden a 4G
LTE icon a wild 4G LTE icon appeared I'm
going to zoom in on that
there we go so as you can see it does
work
the only problem though is that you know
this comes with a price
um this is mainly just if you have if
you just want this phone for data you're
going to try and make calls you're going
to come to an unpleasant surprise so let
me just uh try and call my buddy
Giuseppe so as you can see I just tried
to call my buddy Giuseppe and it just
hung up right away that is because most
CDMA phones do not have the right
antenna bands for GSM calling or maybe
that's just t-mobile because I know most
curious have already started supporting
a voice over LTE which essentially just
lets you um you know make calls over LTE
signals but I don't think t-mobile is
updated to that yet and so it's still
trying to fall back on the 3G which this
phone does not support so really it's
just for data because again I can just
get on the Play Store and I am not
connected to Wi-Fi as you can see there
and it definitely is not 704 a.m. in the
morning I don't know what it's doing
thinking that but essentially you can
only get data for this and also this one
too I didn't show you but you can only
get data for this and this so I mean I
guess try it out with AT&T because I
believe that they support voice over LTE
but as far as t-mobile goes they do not
and also another little glitch that I
found is that um whenever you have this
if you have this running stock like I do
and you have a t-mobile SIM card in here
it actually doesn't update the signal
bar so it always just stays at none even
though I can get a like right now I
essentially have five bars because
that's what I had on this phone too and
also my
four so in conclusion that's how you do
it but it's data only on most phones
I've only tried it with these till
actually I've tried it with three this
axiom the s3 and actually an Verizon s5
it works on all of them and I'm sure
that it probably works on almost all
Android phones so there you go that is
how you get data on your CDMA phones
from a GSM carrier if you liked the
collar if you liked the video guys like
comment subscribe and please do leave a
comment if you have a galaxy s3 us a
galaxy axiom I believe this only came up
for US Cellular or a Verizon Galaxy s5
and I will catch you in the next video
