the 2001 Camry here and the door handle
busted here so we're gonna use to
replace this this is a matching paint
job antique sage pearl otherwise known
as gray and it looks like it's pretty
close before you start the job get the
right hardware these aftermarket parts
don't come with the same that the
originals use to get em 1m 6 by 1 10 to
12 millimeters long the length is
critical otherwise they'll bottom out
now I'm pointing out this upper
left-hand screw this is a self-tapping
screw I found the original in this kit
to be too short so I used one of the
ones from the from the original of
Toyota part get the right length screws
right from the start and it'll go really
smoothly let's start by taking this
little cover off
just flipping it off with a dental pick
and underneath there's a Phillips screw
[Applause]
keep moving along I'm going to take this
one out one thing that I like to do in
cold weather is really use a blow dryer
to soften up the plastic and vinyl
now generally with it softened up like
that part like this will pull out easier
let's work around it
well it's hard to get out way down deep
in there is a Phillips screw and there
it comes it's got to come out and it's
just gonna stay in there it's completely
turned out but it's gonna stay in there
can't get it out all the way over here
I've softened this up already I've got a
little prying tool and then this guy
Phillips screw okay now down low here
this couple screws on here and another
one here you know moving up there's a
couple on the underside here you know
like their incentive these are like be
1000 screws here you don't come out this
one over here when I pop this out
something fell down inside there so
we're gonna have to investigate that as
we take this cover off no as for this
there's nothing in here this is on the
door handle
there's nothing in there at all so I
don't know what was removed it was a
plug in there at one time
this is the point where we have to be a
jerk about it I was hoping this was
going to be a nice cloudy day here you
have to beat under here wow really fast
can't you just have to get under there
there's a piece that fell out I think
this was the thing that was attached to
that little guy on this side I think we
have to work this handle off now we're
all except for the wiring I'm just gonna
leave this inner liner on the ground now
and we're gonna just go after the door
latch it's gonna peel this back it's
just held on by a side here it's gonna
be tough to light on it there for me
inside is that the lever the metal lever
hooks up around the plastic part and
goes through a little hole it's locked
in there pretty good so you can kind of
break that off of there I'm gonna soften
it up with some heat and try to pull it
out but there's really no need since
this part is just to be discarded anyway
so here's the part on the new part
here's what I'm talking about right here
this rod goes through it's got a right
angle on it it snaps through here and
then this comes down and snaps on it and
that's where you get your you know
you're unlocking action when you open
that okay so I heated that up pretty
good just to improve my chances and get
in here a long straight blade
screwdriver while pulling with my hand
at the same time trying to pop it out of
that catch
these are ten millimeter now these are
these are original ones they're self
tapping screws now this one on this side
is fairly close to the edge here
probably gonna be harder to put in than
to take out see this one's really really
sticking in there trying to get it I
think I got it there it is so the other
one if you can see it down in there is
going to take a little more effort here
it's what we're having to do that it's
just good a 10 millimeter wrench in
there and I get on it and turn it I
couldn't get a speed wrench in here
either just why those things area very
cold access here it's really nothing
much you can get in there with a goddess
finally
so here we have the two now this one the
original toy part and it is original
weighs about 30 grams more and see the
heavier kind of counterweight on there
this one has a little bit more
substantial feel to it but this thing
looks like a pretty good pretty well
made part okay let's look at the
mounting bolts because it can be an
issue now this is the upper one here and
when it's all the way down it bottoms
out and I have a 15 millimeter in there
and I have left over about 8 millimeters
left over to make up well I can make up
a bracket is one millimeter thick and
these two washers make up four so that's
five
it goes down seven so I'm still three or
four three or four millimeters too long
here so I'm gonna cut this one off I'm
gonna take four off of it because
they're still gonna be plenty of
grabbing power in there so I'll reduce
it down to an 11 millimeter so my my
bolt my six millimeter bolt is 15
millimeters long needs to be 11 so I'm
gonna turn not one but two nuts on there
get it to where and I wind up with a
four left over here on the outside a
little bit more and then just tighten
one against one not against the other
and hack it off just use that back up
put those nuts on there it allows you to
hack it off nice and clean I also
cleaned it up a little bit with a dremel
tool afterwards and then turn the nut
off in their yard twelve millimeter
perfect length screw okay this is five
millimeters thick and it mounts on this
stud here
but what I'm doing now is already
attaching that 12 millimeter long screw
the bottom lure rear one from the
outside and I kit and you're gonna be
able to just squeeze this through here
and gonna make this job a whole lot
easier from the inside I tempted at
first and it's just too frustrating but
there's enough clearance just enough and
I didn't use washers or lock washers on
this one just tighten it up and slipped
it through there here's the view from
the other side and again it's possible
you might just scrape a little bit of
paint as you do this it's it's really
close but boy it beats the alternative
of putting it on from the inside let's
go put the other thing the other bolts
in now you're going to put the upper
front in better 12 millimeter bolt I do
have a washer and lock washer on this
one and now this one we're just going to
start by hand and then I get in there
and use a tool alright it's caught in
there okay this is one you can actually
reach between here come over tighten it
get put tape on the bolt now to hold it
into the ten millimeter socket now we
can turn it any which way and it won't
fall out and you're going into plastic
don't overdo it
rod the lever in the hole
it's got that little clasp on it that
comes back down I'm gonna hold it you
reach in there with a little tool then
and snap the top of that plastic piece
or the lever let's put this inner door
liner back in you know put the plastic
back in place and we'll get going on the
rest of it so if you're curious about
this little faster here that attaches
there's one inside here a little ploy
plastic piece that is going to fit in a
square slot right here
snap this piece in first and then we'll
put the little pieces in the door and
complete the setup okay let's hang it
start from the top hang it at the top
push it down when it seats then you can
slap these panel fasteners into place
before we put this all back together
let's make sure it's working now on this
door um cover aunt Blanche cover there's
a little catch here it goes inside here
there's a little square so you got to
kind of pull this back and get it seated
in there
which intends to want to slip out of
there there it is up here is the part
that I should have removed to start with
when I first did this and that just okay
nice swing around back here this is
where this panel fastener goes through
that little white piece it's a two-piece
fastener got the outer part and I just
dropped the other half there okay these
two here and there's one under here
there they are
that big ol plug that goes in there
this plugs kind of angled that there's
actually a little notch on the top of it
wow that thing is hard to take out and
put in and then there's the other one
under here here and this is where this
little caps snaps over the screw head
this black one goes in the handle put
the cap in
you
that's it that's it we're done
okay this job is done thanks for
watching
