hey it's time from WP with Tom calm and
in this quick video I'm going to show
you how to set up a home page in
WordPress so let's dive in
[Music]
so in this example here I just uploaded
a free Astra starter site and I'll have
a video pop up at the end of this one if
you're interested in doing the same but
for this I'm just using it as a quick
example site here so if we go back into
the dashboard once you log in your
account this is where you should be you
can see there's areas like pages over
here and this is where you'd want to add
new pages if you don't have one already
you would just click Add page and then
you'd add a title to the page right here
and you would publish it when you're
ready
so I've already done that so I'm just
going to navigate back here but this is
where you would add pages and then if
you needed to put them in your menu you
could go to appearance menus and right
here is where you'd be able to add pages
that you've created add them to the menu
make sure the primary menu and you can
reorder them by clicking holding and
dragging them as needed to reorder them
and then just click Save once you want
to publish that menu so now that we have
pages and a menu already structured here
we can get into actually how to set up
our homepage so if we go down to where
it says settings reading right here so
you can see by default it says your
homepage displays and if you have a blog
first website if you want your blog post
that you're writing to be displayed on
your home page you want to click this
one right here where it says your latest
post now if you want a static homepage
and your blog page to maybe be something
else or if you don't want to blog at all
this is how you would set it up so home
would be our home page and post page
would be nothing so if you look that's
how its set up right now if you see
right here there's nothing after it says
WP fundamentals calm and this is our
home page if you wanted to go to let's
say about right here it would say slash
about so our home page doesn't have the
slash home at the end once we set it up
at his home page now if you want to put
your posts on a different page like blog
for example we can just make that say
post page blog I'm gonna go over and
show you what it looks like first right
here there's nothing on it but if I put
it to display them they're on a blog
page and see these changes
it says settings saved and here we can
go refresh that and see that the blog
posts that I have on here these dummy
posts show up and then if you click on
you can actually read the post if there
was actually any content in there so
that is how you would set a page now
let's say for some reason you wanted to
change it your homepage to display a
different page let's say we want it to
be the services page I'm going to go
down here to services if you want to
look right here services currently says
WP fundamentals calm slash services and
this is what the page looks like if we
want it to make this our home page right
here and then just save it you can then
see that if we go and click home here
it's now going to show the services page
as our home page notice there's no slash
services but if you go over to services
it's going to be the same page because
it is the home page now if we wanted to
click home it's gonna say slash home at
the end because it's no longer the
actual home page of our website
so I hope this makes sense I would
recommend that if you're going to have a
regular site you end up having the home
page as home and post as blog if you're
gonna have blog posts or no blog post
you would want like this if you want it
to display your latest blog post on your
home page of your website then you would
choose this option right here to make it
a blog first site so I hope this video
was helpful in showing you how to set up
a home page in WordPress I know this is
something that I struggle with a lot
when I was first starting out so I hope
that this was helpful if you have any
questions feel free to reach out in the
comments below and thanks for viewing
have a good one
