The key difference is with diarrhea.
If you have vomiting and diarrhea, with diarrhea the liquid that you lose from diarrhea is
coming from your body, it's coming from your tissues.
Diarrhea will dehydrate a child very, very quickly, especially smaller children.
So when you have diarrhea with vomiting, now you're losing fluid and you can't take fluid
in because you're vomiting and that's a kid that can get dehydrated very quickly.
So it's that combination.
Now sometimes they follow each other, so you'll start with vomiting and then you get diarrhea.
As long as they can drink while they're having the diarrhea, they can replace what they're
losing and it's usually not a problem.
It's when they come right together you have losing fluid from the diarrhea and they can't
drink because you're vomiting - those kids can get in trouble.
And again, smaller kids get in trouble quicker than bigger kids.
