hey guys Alan Haines here the lawn care
nut with another long tip and today
we're continuing with a little series
I'm doing here on how to get rid of
creeping Charlie or ground ivy in the 1
so as you'll recall I have an area that
I allowed some ground ivy to grow in and
my lawn taking about 6 years or so to
take over here in this area the parkway
but here it is you can see how bad it is
and it's really started to you know make
a foothold to the point where I need to
go ahead and control so let's go through
how we're going to get rid of this
freaking charlie and there's a couple
steps here the first one is I want you
to mow the lawn mow the area because we
want to cut the grass down so that's not
in the way and then also by cutting
you're also going to damage some of the
creeping Charlie leaves which will open
them up to allow them to soak in our
treatments a little bit better and a
little bit faster so that's number one
just give her a nice cut okay now for
the first spray portion of this video I
need you to go to your local grocery
store and get 20 Mule Team borax yep
that's right borax for this I need you
to mix five ounces of borax in one
gallon of water that's going to give you
just the right amount now how does borax
work well borax contains boron and boron
is an essential micronutrients but when
you apply too much more on to a plant it
could actually have the opposite effect
and cause toxicity and kill the plant so
you need to be careful because you can
also harm your turfgrass here the good
news is is that the ground ivy is going
to be more susceptible to an overdose of
boron than is the grass so once you have
your borax mixture go ahead and put that
into a spray bottle now we need to get a
spray bottle that's a little bit higher
quality that can create a super fine
mist the idea here with this application
is we need the finest mist possible so I
got this spray bottle here at Walmart it
was like three bucks but you can see
that it's exactly what I need so once
you have that mixed up you basically
just want to put a fine mist across the
whole area where the creeping Charlie
exists then I want you to let that dry
for 1 hour before proceeding to the next
step ok and now for the final step I
want you to get a regular lawn and
garden pump up sprayer like you see here
use the fan tip nozzle and
go ahead and mix your favorite weed
control up as according to its label
directions for sure you want to get a
weed control that contains two for D&I
Campa and I'm going to give you a link
below in the description to a video I
did on how to choose the best weed
control okay so that's all there is to
step one of how to kill creeping Charlie
and you'll see here here are my results
this is about 14 days after the
treatment that you see here you can see
some wilting already some curling and
now we're going to go on to a second
step which I'll reveal to you in the
next video please subscribe to the
