today we're talking about chicken skin
did you guys know that almost half of
the people you know in your life have
keratosis pilaris otherwise known as
chicken skin the bumps that you see on
the skin they're not itchy don't hurt
their sometimes skin colored some people
might have a pink colored ones or
sometimes they might look red and
they're just bumps on the skin no cure
for them yet they're hereditary genetics
and also it's not triggered by any
product or anything it's just genetics
so what keratosis pilaris is in
scientific terms basically it's keratin
building up in the hair follicles so the
number one thing to do is exfoliate help
shed those dead skin cells so that you
can minimize the look of KP and make
your skin look and feel smoother up to
40% of adults have keratosis pilaris and
it's even higher in teenagers it's 50 to
80 percent so for some people if they
have KP when they're younger as they
grow older they might find their chicken
skin to lighten up I get them on the
back of my arms my thighs and back of my
legs when I was a teenager it was worse
than now so it was really obvious and I
was really insecure about it growing up
especially when I was a teen you know in
the summertime on a wear short skirts
tank top whatever and I was always like
I don't want to like why do I have these
darn annoying bumps when everyone else's
skin looks so smooth like to you
everyone seems to have perfect skin
right when you have like a skin problem
so as a teenager I was like darn I hate
my skin I still have bumps on my arms
and legs but they're less obvious like
they're less red they're more like skin
colored didn't bug me as much I don't
know maybe I'm just more comfortable
enough so in university actually went to
see a nurse about my KP and it wasn't
like an emergency appointment it was one
of those appointments where I can't just
like book it with a nurse weeks ahead of
time if you want have any questions or
anything like that so I went
you know nurse I wanted to learn more
about keratosis pilaris and if there are
treatments for it if there are products
that will help chicken skin things like
that and the only thing she said to me
was so you came to see me just so you
can look good in a bikini and I was just
so taken aback like really that's that's
what you're going to tell me um like
you're a health professional you know
people come to see you for different
health concerns and skin concerns and
this is one of them like I know it's not
life-threatening you know but I have
questions about my body and this aren't
you and you somebody I can like trust in
and go to but I don't know after that
experience I was just like oh I didn't
want to see any other doctors and nurses
about it again so growing up I try to
find my own recipe and potion for making
my KP better and I just really wanted to
share this with you because on my
channel it's about skincare and it's
about helping my viewers achieve your
best skin possible so in case you guys
are wondering what products you can try
for helping your KP I'm here for you
I've tried a lot of products and I've
tried all kinds of exfoliating
techniques to smooth out my skin and I
can tell you for sure that physical
scrubs and scrubs with beads mitts those
are the worst for keratosis pilaris you
don't want to physically scrub the bumps
because they actually aggravate it and
they irritate it it makes them worse it
makes them more red and obvious so don't
scrub them down even though you need to
exfoliate them just get chemical
exfoliant and what I'm talking about
Ajay's phas you guys know I love this
not only for the face that I use them
for my arms and legs now I use them
twice a week so one time I'll use AJ and
the second time of the week I'll use BHA
and I'll just
take a bit of it and apply it onto the
back of my arms
I have KP on the back of my arms the
back of my legs and my thigh area so
I'll apply these acids after I get on a
shower
I try to leave them on and let it soak
for a couple of minutes and then I go in
with my moisturizing cream now because
these acids are quite drying to the skin
because they are exfoliating products
after all you need to really moisturize
your skin well after using acids so sera
they is my go-to moisturizing cream I
use this all over my body
year-round it's just amazing it's very
hydrating and it's great for people with
different skin concerns and things like
that so it's my go-to I always
repurchase it and I also use coconut oil
once a week I like to leave this on for
30 minutes and I have to change into
shorts and tank tops so that it's not
like all sticking to my clothes and I
apply it and I pretty much have to sit
like this you know on the couch with my
legs elevated so that I don't get oil
and stuff on my couch and everywhere
leave it on for 30 minutes and I jump in
the shower now because this isn't oil
after all I don't like to jump in a
shower right away or else my table
turned into skating rink I like to take
a damp towel and just run it on my arms
and legs for us to try to get as much of
the coconut oil off my skin before I
jump in a shower so does it tip for you
there are alternatives out there for
example so for ourselves is product
called a derma dr. KP duty and it's like
36 or 40 bucks something like that in
that ballpark and it's supposed to help
with KP it's made and advertised as a
product for keratosis pilaris but I
didn't find anything special it wasn't
super spectacular these products I
mentioned actually did a great better
job for me than the KP duty and these
are much cheaper too and then another
alternative is the lush Buffy body
butter and that one makes your skin
super smooth but does it really help
with the KP situation not really if you
want really smooth Assaf skin for a day
or two yes it does an amazing job but
again I
find that these three products I just
showed you they do an even better job
and when you're in the shower make sure
to use warm water not hot water hot
water is very harsh on the skin it
strips your natural oils bad for your
hair so just try not to use hot water
even though I feel so good and relaxing
and also actually use moisturizing body
washes anything with really moisturizing
ingredients less fragrance is best for
your skin another thing is people with
KP if you shave you notice that your
bumps tend to be more obvious because
again shaving you're going light against
the grain you're irritating the bumps it
makes them more red a lot of time so I
would definitely suggest using a shaving
cream or coconut oil to shave your legs
so those are just I have four chicken
skin I hope you guys sounds helpful do
leave your comments down below if you've
tried products or your experience with
KP and just drill them with us thank you
guys so much for watching I'll see you
very soon in my next video bye
