Do you have dark spots and ingrown hair causing
that dreaded skin condition strawberry legs or chicken legs?
Here are our tips on how to prevent and treat it!
This skin condition is basically a funny name for dark bumps or spots where your hair follicle
is.
Although it’s not really a health threat, it might not feel super attractive and can
cause women to be embarrassed of their bare legs!
Although these spots are generally called strawberry legs they can be caused due to
many different reasons such as clogged and enlarged pores, ingrown hair due to improper
shaving or a bacterial infection.
If you’re someone who shaves, make sure to always always use a clean, sharp razor!
Instead of using soap to shave, splurge on some shaving cream and your skin will thank
you.
You can even use aloe vera gel as a substitute for shaving cream for a kick of hydration
but remember to never dry shave as it will cause irritation and dryness.
Instead of shaving, use a hair removal method that pulls the hair out from the root like
waxing or epilating instead.
If done correctly, these will prevent an excess of ingrown hair.
Moisturise with non comedogenic creams that will never clog your pores.
Unfortunately this means as much as we love our coconut oil, it’s better to leave it
out as a skincare staple here!
Use lightly medicated creams that contain salicylic acid or glycolic acid.
These acids gently dissolve all the dead skin cells and dirt that are clogging your pores
and should leave you with smoother, even toned legs in a few weeks!
After waxing or shaving go over your legs with ice cubes made of aloe vera gel and a
few drops of tea tree oil.
The cold aloe vera will hydrate and soothe your legs and the tea tree oil will cleanse
your pores.
Exfoliating is key to getting rid of these pesky bumps and discolouration as it will
buff away all the dirt and built up dead skin cells too.
Make a mixture of 2 tbsp brown sugar, 2 tbsp aloe vera gel and 1 tbsp lemon juice and massage
the scrub over your legs in circular motions at least twice a week!
The alpha hydroxy acids in sugar will exfoliate your skin, aloe vera nourishes it and lemon
juices brightens pigmentation and dark spots.
Mix baking soda and buttermilk into a paste, massage it onto your legs and let the mixture
sit for 5 minutes.
Baking soda is a natural cleanser and buttermilk contains lactic acid that will exfoliate and
even out your skin tone.
Moisturise your legs every night with a mixture of 2-3 drops of tea tree oil and 1 tbsp of
jojoba oil.
The tea tree oil helps combat excess sebum production that clogs pores and jojoba oil
is a powerful moisturiser that works similarly to our natural oils and is perfect even for
sensitive skin.
Now you can feel comfortable and confident to bare your legs in your favourite dress!
Until next time stay tuned and stay GLAMRS.
