hi welcome to my channel today I am
doing my video on a terrible skin
condition that I developed when I was
about 31 weeks pregnant I had said in my
I believe it was my one month postpartum
video I talked a little bit about it and
said that I would do a video on it so
this is my video uh any information that
I do talk about in this video just know
that I am NOT a professional I don't
have all the answers what I know is just
from what I've read and I may not be
right on the facts that I am going over
but it's what I have found on the
internet and it is also what I have
found that has worked for me so getting
on to it perioral dermatitis is a
terrible skin condition that develops
around your mouth and around kind of the
corners of your nose and under your nose
it can also affect the eyes which
thankfully I did not have that and so
it's kind of like eczema meets acne it's
little tiny bumps that are red at first
and then they seem to turn white and so
mine first developed over on this side
of my nose and it was just tiny tiny
little I don't know like four or five
little bumps and I thought that it was
acne so I didn't worry about it too much
at first and then two weeks went by I
had my maternity photos and that's when
I kind of realized that hey this
probably isn't acne because it hasn't
gone away yet and acne always goes away
and by the way I do have a
lot of knowledge on acne because I have
been blessed to have had acne since I
was about 10 years old so I know a lot
of what happened and I know that acne
doesn't last for two weeks like a
breakout for me it lasts a few days a
week maybe at the most
so this had lasted well over two weeks
and so I knew that I needed to address
it at the doctor so when I went to see
my OBGYN I told him about the rash and
he prescribed me some steroid cream so I
start using the steroid cream and I was
using it twice a day and it seemed to
really help for a couple of weeks and I
was like dang I wish that I had got this
before my maternity photos because it is
so much better so because it did get
better I stopped using it for a little
while and then of course I got it again
and this time it started spreading down
around under my nose and then around to
the other side so I kind of on-and-off
used the steroid cream I found that it
wasn't helping at all wasn't really
making things worse so I did eventually
just stop using it and I just kind of
let the rash slowly take over my life I
was like 38 39 weeks pregnant at this
point and I had a lot of other issues
like with carpal tunnel in my hands and
some pelvic pain a lots of swelling so
it just kind of wasn't my priority at
the time I wasn't really caring about
looking cute at 38 39 weeks pregnant so
when I went in to have my baby I was 41
weeks I had it starting here on the
sides of my mouth it wasn't too bad and
it wasn't hurting too bad but it
definitely you could see it and it was
starting to look like embarrassing but
still I wasn't too worried because you
know bigger things to worry about at
that point
and then once I got out of the hospital
I was I was a couple weeks it just kept
getting worse and worse and I did start
using the steroid cream again when I got
home from the hospital and that totally
made it flare up and made it even worse
so it spread and really rapidly spread
down under my nose around my mouth it
started going up my nostrils and it hurt
so bad I could hardly smile it felt like
I had dried food milk like something
like that
dried around my mouth like whenever I
would smile or even talk move my mouth
it just felt like something was caked on
dried around my mouth plus it hurts so
bad and it was really really itchy it
was the most awful thing that I've ever
had and of course it was right on my
face for everybody to see I was able to
cover it with some cover up for a little
while but then once it got like it was
just bumpy and scaly and just disgusting
there was no point in even trying to
cover it up because that made it look
worse than having it just be naked and
read I did eventually go and see the
doctor because of just looking up my
symptoms I figured it was perioral
dermatitis and pretty much everything I
read said that it needs antibiotics to
clean to clear it up so the first thing
that I got was um clindamycin which is
this
see anyway it's just a topical
antibiotic a little dabber like a bingo
dapper like this and you just dab it on
these spots twice a day so I use this
for two days and it's done when I put it
on and it didn't make it feel any better
made it feel worse and started getting
more dry I'm guessing that that's part
of how it works as it dries it out
anyway
the rash was just still horrendous and I
was crying every single day I felt like
my kids how awful for my kids to have to
look into this disgusting face I
couldn't go out anywhere because I was
just mortified to have this rash on my
face I will insert some pictures so that
you can see um exactly how awful it was
because when I say how awful it was you
might just be thinking oh no what you're
terrible on yourself but it was horrible
it just looked nasty there's no way I
could go out in public and not have
people stare at me because I would stare
if I saw someone like that so I went
back to I went back to the doctor couple
days after that and I got a pill
prescription for the antibiotic called
minocycline I think it's called and I
actually got six weeks worth of
antibiotics and within two days I
started to clear up and I just finished
my cycle of antibiotics last week end of
last week so I have heard that it can
come back once you stop the antibiotic
so I'm really afraid of that happening
but fingers crossed that that's not
going to happen as well as taking the
antibiotics
I was also putting antifungal cream I
was using the connectin cream it is for
a yeast infection but it worked really
well at soothing the itch in the burn
that was
my mouth they're not exactly sure they
don't really know a whole lot about
perioral dermatitis but I'm guessing it
is some sort of a fungus that's on your
face from what I read so this really did
help with you know soothing it and
making it less itchy for sure and I even
continued putting this on once the rash
seemed to be gone and in time to time I
still will put this on because I do feel
a bit of like itching now that my
antibiotics are done I'm feeling a bit
of itching and also when I had my hair
dyed the day after I had my hair colored
I started getting like really sensitive
around my mouth and up in my nose a bit
of itching so and I think that that
might have been from the chemicals in
the hair dye um so that is some things
that can cause it they may say are
certain chemicals that are in makeup or
skin products I'm guessing there's
probably something in hair dye I don't
know I didn't really find a whole lot of
information about that um but there is
this stuff called sold sodium lauryl
sulfate SLS that is in a lot of products
that makes them bubble up so it's in a
lot of face washes body washes
toothpaste also in a lot of makeup I did
check my makeup them and it's not in my
makeup so and I don't wear a whole lot
of makeup anyways but once I did get
this rash I did buy some stuff to cover
it up and I'll show you what that was
because it works really well to be sure
that mine just happened out of like a
hormonal imbalance
whichever and that can also happen too
so it has cleared this is my face I
don't have any cover-up around my mouth
I have a little bit of powder but I will
also put a picture of how my face looks
without makeup next to what it looked
like at its worst yeah it was terrible
but it did heal quickly just a couple of
weeks and it was completely I mean there
was still some redness but nothing like
what it was I could go out in public
very easily it wasn't scaly and peeling
part of the healing was that it peeled a
lot and that's definitely to be expected
and now that it has healed the skin
around my mouth is a lot smoother
there's no blackheads where there used
to be blackheads like right here so it's
almost like I had a little mini chemical
peel from it but not worth it I
definitely wouldn't go through that
again just to have a few blackheads gone
to cover it up this is what I was using
I can read it it is by L'Oreal Paris
magic skin beautifier BB cream and it's
anti redness it starts out green and
then it turns once it's on it turns to a
shade of skin tone I guess and I did
look at the ingredients I didn't see the
SLS on here um but then the ingredients
list is like seriously insane so I
suppose I could have missed it on there
but I don't think it's there and I
haven't had any issues using it and I
actually haven't even used it for quite
some time so that is my story with
perioral dermatitis if you think that
you have it
do not use steroid cream because that
will make it worse that is a known fact
it can also be caused by overuse of
steroid creams on the face so if you do
have it and you want to try to treat it
yourself at home I have heard that using
a plain yoghurt can help and I would
also suggest using the knesset intent
eye fungal cream or any other fungal
cream antifungal cream should work yeah
but if you're really serious about
getting rid of it I suggest to get
yourself a prescription
I got minocycline it is from the Tri
cycling family and it was said to be a
safe
this one was said to have been safe for
nursing now there's going to be
controversy with that because I did see
a doctor afterwards to get a referral to
a dermatologist and he said no no no you
can't take that when you're nursing well
too late because I had already taken
five weeks worth of it and I was told
that the doctor that prescribed it that
it would be all right and uh the I did
talk to a pharmacist also who said take
it it's worth it
the side-effects to my son who is
nursing are very minimum and yeah the
side the side effect is that it can turn
the tooth enamel on a baby a dark color
so we'll see when his teeth come in if
they are stained but it doesn't have any
effect on the structure of the teeth so
if it's just a little bit of staining
that's alright we'll deal with it his
teeth will follow and hopefully I don't
know we'll deal with it the pharmacist
and the doctor didn't seem too worried
about it so I'm not too worried about it
and if it does return and I do have to
go back on antibiotics which oh my gosh
I really hope I don't I will be stopping
nursing and taking the antibiotics again
which will break my heart because I do
love nursing and I am hoping to nurse
for at least one full year like I did
with my first son um so yeah fingers are
totally crossed that it does not come
back because that was a terrible
terrible time of my life really horrible
to have that happen when you're going
through postpartum issues I didn't have
too bad a postpartum depression but I
did have some baby blues and that did
not help tears every day my poor husband
had to deal with a lot around that time
so um yeah it's gone and thank goodness
I have my lovely well as lovely as what
acne scarred skin can be but
have my normal for me skin back and I am
super pumped about that so thank you for
watching this video I hope that you
liked it and I hope that if you are
struggling with the same rash that you
get it taken care of because it
definitely can be treated so thank you
for watching I'll see you in my next
video bye
