Hi, my name is Dr. Ally Jackson with Airrosti.
And today, we're gonna talk about quad strains.
We'll go over the causes of quad strains, as well as some of the signs and symptoms
that may indicate that you're dealing with this condition.
Additionally, we'll discuss how traditional healthcare handles these types of conditions,
and how Airrosti is just a little bit different.
Let's get started.
The quadriceps are comprised of four muscles in the anterior, or front part of the thigh.
They originate in the uppermost portion of the thigh and hip, and insert onto the patella,
or knee cap.
Their functions include walking, running, going up and down stairs, and patellar stability.
Due to their dynamic function, the quadriceps are prone to injury, specifically strains,
which are commonly referred to as a "pulled muscle".
Most often, these strains are the result of a sport or athletic activity.
Specifically, sports involving abrupt acceleration or deceleration while running.
Examples include soccer, track & field, and basketball.
Signs and symptoms that may indicate that you have a quad strain include pain and tenderness
with pressure on the affected area, reduced range of motion, visible swelling or bruising,
and pain which increases with activity.
Traditional healthcare most commonly recommends a combination of rest, ice, compression, and
elevation to manage quad strains.
Additionally, they may prescribe over-the-counter pharmaceuticals to help reduce pain and inflammation.
Typically, they also recommend reducing and/or eliminating activity until the injury is healed.
Airrosti's approach to injuries like quad strains is a bit different than traditional
healthcare.
Our treatment teams spend an entire hour with every patient at every visit.
Our doctors perform a comprehensive examination which includes neuromuscular, functional,
and orthopedic testing.
Not only does this exam allow us to arrive at an accurate diagnosis, but it also dictates
where our Airrosti Certified Providers will perform specific, hands-on manual therapy.
During the second half of your appointment, you will perform active care exercises that
are designed specifically for you and your injury.
Even better, these exercises can be performed at home, allowing you to expedite your recovery
process and maintain your progress.
We hope the information presented was helpful to you.
