morning guys this video today is going
to be about
gnats if you if you're watching this
video it's because you have a problem
with that
i did two and i found out how to get rid
of them so i'm going to tell you what i
did it's a little bit different other
people are doing on youtube
i did some experimenting you know until
recently uh you know a few weeks ago the
only thing i knew about nance was that
when when kevin hart explained how as a
child a cloud of nats almost killed him
that mass could be very funny when
involved in the lives of other people
but
but a few weeks ago my apartment became
infested with nats and now they're not
so funny anymore
so like over 13 years of making videos
weekly on youtube i've made
very popular videos on how to get rid of
ants roaches
mosquitoes because i know a lot about
them and i've had them before and i know
how to get rid of them forever
but this is my first ever video on gnats
there's a bunch of different ways you
have nets
in your house or your balcony whatever
mostly that's like
moisture you you they like food that's
spilled around somewhere or
over watered uh plants or
garbage cans or puddles or leaky pipes
or even
like your windows can have condensation
but in my case they like potting soil
moist moist potting soil on my balcony
and the last few months i've had a lot
of potting soil on my balcony growing
some different plants
now the balcony is just swarming with
them i did some research
how to get rid of an ass the most
popular suggestion on youtube is
to make funnel traps some kind of
plastic bottles
and fill it up with a baked liquid made
out of apple cider vinegar
water sugar and a little bit of dish
soap like a drop or two
in theory what happens is the acetic
acid
that's in the vinegar it mimics the the
scent of
rotting fruit uh because vinegar is
really just fermented
uh fruit juice or vegetable
matter and uh you also have the sugar
will attract the nets too
uh and the soap it acts like a
surfactant but what it does it breaks
the surface tension of the water
allows the gnats to be absorbed by and
then sink into the water otherwise
they could just sort of you know
skedaddle around on top of the water and
maybe walk over to the side
now i made several plastic funnel traps
and i baited them with the liquid uh i
made from the apple cider vinegar and
water sugar and soap
and i i placed them uh the balcony right
next to my plants but i also made
some uh or put the liquid in some
shallow
plastic lids and even some open
containers without any funnel trap
and uh apparatus on top and i found out
that
the plain lids and
open containers caught far more uh
gnats than did the final traps and
i also made a fan trap by taking some
tall
which is like a netting you can get it
at walmart real cheap and just taped it
over the front of the fan
and it's very helpful in catching the
nets too
if if you've gotten gnats what you want
to do is identify what's attracting them
and
try to get rid of it and that's where
they're breeding
and if you can't get rid of it like my
case i've got all that potting soil with
the plants
you want to make very simple uh vinegar
bait
like i talked about and place it in
shallow dishes don't bother with making
the funnel traps
they really didn't work that well they
caught a few but compared to the open
shallow containers
they worked great and just replenish it
every day
and then you can also try making a fan
trap so
