How Do I Apply For My Social Security Retirement Benefits Online - Documents Needed To Apply For SSI

i'm going to show you how you can
get your current social security
retirement benefit
figure online and then apply for
social security online and then set up
an online account
where you can manage and view your
statements
the social security office has an online
estimator for you so before you even
apply
you can figure out approximately what
your
monthly payment is going to be so if you
go to this url here
it'll take you to this page and if you
scroll down
it tells you who's eligible to use this
retirement estimator
come back up here and click on estimate
your retirement benefits then you need
to verify
your identity so fill in your name your
mother's maiden name your social
security number your date of birth
and place of birth scroll down to the
bottom
click on i agree to the terms of service
click on submit then you have to put in
your last
year's earning of income and then click
on
next and now it tells you that
if you wait till your full retirement
age of 66
and six months you will receive this
much
per month at age 70 you'll receive
this much per month and at your current
age
you'll receive this much per month all
right so these numbers are not
set in stone but are going to be fairly
accurate
and if you want to get a hard copy of
this you can just come up here and click
on
print this page all right so we're done
with the estimator
click on exit all right so that takes
you to this page here
where you can set up your personal
online
social security login area where you can
track
all of your social security events so
scroll down here
and click on create an account click on
create
new account and then it says here you
must be able to verify some information
about yourself
have a valid email address have a social
security number
have a us mailing address and must be
at least 18 years of age all right let's
scroll down here
let's click on i agree click on next
so now you need to fill in this
information your name your social
security number your date of birth
home address cell phone number and email
address
so go ahead and do that alright so after
you've filled out all that
information click on next
all right so now you need to choose how
you want to verify
your identity and it says here that
creating
an account is easier when you use your
driver's license
or state issued id to verify your
identity
so i'm going to go that route so it says
here take a picture of your id with a
smartphone
it's like depositing a check online with
your bank
no uploading or emailing is needed
photos are captured automatically
alright so let's click
on take a photo of your id with a
smartphone
click on next all right so there's three
steps here you have to do
the first step is select the request
text button
below and then it says then select the
link
in the text message to capture the photo
all right so we will receive a text and
then it says return to this window to
finish
setting up your account and this should
work because i
originally put my cell phone number in
the first page of this application
so i'm going to click here request text
message
all right i received the text all right
it says we sent a text to this
number click on the link in the text
and then that loads up a social security
app and it says start
photo capture this process is simple and
only takes a minute
you will need one of the following a
driver's license
or a learner's permit or a state issued
id card
then i'm going to click on continue and
it says take a photo
of the front of your id and click on
continue
all right i took the picture and then
i'm going to click on
use photo and now it's saying analyzing
my photo
now it says take a photo of the back of
your id
so flip your driver's license over click
on continue
on your phone and then take a picture of
the back of your driver's license and if
it looks good
click on use photo now it's saying
analyzing your photo again
all right so now it says please return
to the window that you left open before
taking photos
you have completed the photo capture now
you need to finish setting up your
account alright so come back over to
our computer and right down here it says
have you taken
photos of your id i'll click on yes
i finished taking photos click on
continue
and then it says an activation code
helps us verify
your identity and improves the security
of your account
how do you want to receive your
activation code you can send it by text
message
by email or by mail i'm going to say by
text message and click on next
all right i received my activation code
and i'll enter that in right here
and i'll click on submit activation code
so now we need to create our login
account details
all right so once you've created
questions and answers
for three of these click on next
and then you can provide the social
security office feedback here
if you'd like i'm just going to say no
thanks for right now
and then you're brought to the success
page says congratulations
you have successfully set up your my
social security account
in the future you will use two steps to
sign into your account you'll enter your
username and password
and then you'll enter the security code
that is sent to you
and in my case it's going to be sent to
me by text because i put in my cell
phone number
you can add other ways to receive social
security on this
social security tabs in the buy social
security tab
home page and then they're just saying
do not share your password with anyone
all right click on next all right so
then you want to probably read through
the terms of service here
and the big key here is with my social
security account
you can immediately view download or
print your social security statements
your online statements contain the most
up-to-date information in our records
about your earnings and benefits
remember now that you have
a my social security account you will no
longer receive
paper statements in the mail if you need
a statement by mail
please follow these instructions all
right i'll click on i agree
click on next and then
you are automatically logged in to the
back
office of your personal my social
security account
so here you can print and save a copy of
your social security statement
you can replace your social security
card you can print or save a letter
providing you do not have benefits
here it shows you your eligibility for
benefits
and then here it graphs out currently
what you'll get monthly if you
sign up if you wait to your full
benefits at
66 and six months this is what you would
get
and if you delay it to age 70
you'll get this much and also from this
page
you can apply for medicare when it
becomes time to do that you can also
apply for disability from this page
all right so that concludes the setting
up process
of creating your own online social
security account
for logging in and managing your account
so the next step
is actually applying for your retirement
benefits right here it says start your
retirement application
and then it says see what you'll need to
apply so let's click on that
and it says that this checklist will
help you gather the information
you'll need so it says the first thing
you should do is create a my
social security account we just did that
and it says you are required to log into
your existing my social security account
or attempt to create one all right so
now if we scroll down
if we look at this column here
retirement
and spouses all right so after reviewing
the information that we need here and
getting that
organized we can then return back
to this page here and click on start
your retirement
application now and then you click on
apply for benefits takes you to this url
here you can read this click
on i understand and agree to the above
statements
click on next and it says apply online
for retirement
or medicare benefits getting ready
before you start your application we
recommend that you take a moment to
prepare yourself
by reviewing a few items make sure you
meet the requirements to apply online
for retirement or medicare gather all
the information you need to complete the
process
and there's also a helpful hints for
applying online

make sure that your name social security
number
date of birth gender and then answer the
next two questions here
make sure that all that's correct and
click on next all right then fill in
your
contact information and then click on
next
all right complete your birth and
citizenship
information click on next then they
provide you with a re-entry number
in case the system crashes or you don't
have time to finish the application and
want to come back
so you can just click on print this page
all right so once you
read all this information here just
click on
next and it's just asking you if you've
ever used any other social security
numbers
or if you've used any other names
answer those two questions click on next
alright so fill out your marriage
information if you are married
and click on next and then it's asking
you do you have any prior marriages
answer that question click on next
all right so if you have any children
click on yes
and then answer the questions about the
children
click on next so then it asks you did
you work
or will you work for an employer in 2021
in my case it's no click on next
and then you have a self-employment
section it says were you self-employed
in 2021
in my case i was so i'll click on yes
fill out the business information
alright so once you complete the
self-employment section
if it applies to you click on next
fill out the foreign social security
questions and fill out your social
security statement
click on next fill out the total
earnings page
and click on next all right then fill
out the
area where it says work not covered by
social security
answer those questions click on next
then you can tell the social security
administration
when you want your benefits to start
so select a date and click on next
then you have the ability to set up
direct deposit into your
checking or savings account if you would
like to so it's asking you do you own
or co-own a bank account for direct
deposit
in my case i'll click yes and then it's
asking for the account type
the routing number and the account
number all right so after you've
selected your account type
entered in your routing number and
account number click on
next all right so then it's asking you
have you previously applied for medicare
social security benefits or supplemental
security income in my case it's snow
and click on next you can put in some
remarks here if you have any
i don't really have any so i'm just
going to click on next
here they're asking you if you
previously set up an appointment with
with the social security office
to have them sign you up for your
benefits
so you need to answer the question if
you did or you didn't and then click
on next and then they provide you with
information about
managing your benefits in the future if
you have any issues
and also says do you want to provide
advanced designees
at this time either do that or not
on next and then you're taken to your
summary page
all right so review your summary page
make sure everything looks accurate
and scroll down to the bottom click on i
agree with the electronic
signature agreement above and then the
last statement says
you will no longer be able to change
this information
once you continue when you select submit
now below
you will be sending this completed
information electronically to the social
security administration
please make sure that everything is
correct
i'm going to click on submit now
and then you get the apply for benefits
page
here's your confirmation page i'm
scrolling the bottom and i'm going to
click on
view and print your receipt
all right so then i did get an email
here from benefits
dot application says check the status of
your application
so it says we have received your
application for benefits thank you for
using our online services
to conduct your business and then it
says you can check the status of going
to
my social dot security account we will
contact you by phone
or by mail with any updates or questions
we may have about
your information we hope you found our
