hey everyone today we have a quick
tutorial for you we're gonna be showing
you how to copy your files so your
pictures or documents to a
thumb drive or flash drive or an
external hard drive
on your windows 10 computer it's really
easy to do i've got two
quick methods for you but hey if you're
new here my name is ken and this is
northern viking every day
and we bring you videos on reviews and
how to's so please consider subscribing
so you don't miss out on any upcoming
videos
let's go ahead and jump right over to my
computer desktop and show you exactly
how to copy
your files
[Music]
alright so here we are on my windows 10
computer and the first thing we need to
do is plug in our thumb drive or flash
drive
or external hard drive into our windows
10 computer
if you don't already own a flash drive
or an external hard drive
i'll put a link in the description below
to some of my favorites you can go check
those out
on amazon now the process to do this
copying of files
to your device should be the same on all
of these devices so i'm going to use my
thumb drive
today so i'm going to plug that right
into my computer
so once i plugged in my drive it popped
up automatically for myself on my screen
and i know this is my drive because
it says kodak usb g colon here at the
top and that's the drive i was using if
you're using a different brand of drive
maybe a sandisk or western digital or
samsung
it'll have a totally different name than
what i have here now
this is where you would copy your files
to um
on this drive and you can see it's empty
right now if this did not pop up
automatically for you i'm going to show
you how to find that right now so i'm
going to close this
and we need to go ahead down to the
start menu in the bottom left-hand
corner
and left-click on that you're going to
see a whole bunch of things that come up
here and you'll see all your programs
here
on the left but we need to go all the
way to the very left and you're going to
see this small little icon
and when you hover over it you're going
to see it says documents we're going to
go ahead and left click on documents
and that's going to bring up a file
explorer window just like this where we
can search for our drive now
if we scroll down here and i'm going to
minimize my computer here
it might look something like this where
you don't see your drive
you need to expand this pc there's a
little arrow next to it
and you should be able to see everything
on your computer and we want to go down
to
our drive and find it here at the bottom
and again mine's kodak usb
yours is probably something different
we're going to go ahead and left click
on that
and again we're going to be right where
we need to be to see
everything that's on our drive and if
you have files on that thumb drive or
flash drive already they'll show up
right here the next thing we need to do
is actually find the files that we want
to copy
over to our thumb drive so we're going
to go back to the start menu
click on that and go back to documents
here on the left
left click on that and you're going to
see it pops up
and you can search your computer for
your files so maybe they're on your
desktop you could click on your desktop
here
or maybe they're in your documents or
maybe they're in your pictures you need
to find where your files are
mine are in my documents and i'm going
to double click on these files here
this folder that says files and these
are the files that i want to copy over
to my thumb drive so the first method
we're going to show you is to actually
just drag and drop them so i'm going to
take one
i'm going to click on it and hold down
the left mouse button
and just drag it over just like that and
let go
it's going to copy that over if i wanted
to hold a copy a whole bunch at one time
i can click on the first one
hold down the shift key on your keyboard
and use the arrows
to highlight a few of them just like
that so you can see a few of them are
highlighted
and now i can drag them over all like
that and it's really easy to copy them
over so that's the first method
again if you're trying to do a whole
bunch of one time it's shift
and your arrow keys down or up to
highlight a whole bunch of them
now i'm gonna just delete these off of
here so if you need to delete them off
of your thumb drive you can
highlight them by just just like that
dragging your mouse cursor over them and
just hitting delete on the keyboard
are you sure you want to permanently
delete these four files yes
and it's going to delete them off my
thumb drive and i again i know this is
my thumb drive
because the name's right there so the
second way to send files to our thumb
drive is quite easy
probably easier than the first actually
i'm gonna leave this open so you can see
exactly what's going on we want to click
on the file we want to
copy over so file one i'm just gonna
right click on it
and we're gonna go down to send to here
it's near the bottom so go to send to
and we're gonna go down and look for our
drive so kodak usb
we're just going to left click on that
and it's going to copy that file right
over
to our thumb drive now again if you want
to do this with multiple
files just click on file 2. we're going
to hold down our shift key
and our use our arrows to highlight
three files
we're gonna right click on it and we're
gonna go to send to
kodak usb and it's gonna copy all three
of those files
over so we've got all four of them there
now one last thing before you pull out
your thumb drive we want to make sure we
eject our thumb drive
so we don't corrupt our data that's
really easy to do so i'm going to just
close these windows just like that and
to pull our thumb drive out we want to
go down to the bottom right
to our little icons down here and
if you're not seeing a little usb logo
here you might have to click on the
little arrow
and you'll see a little usb icon here
and you can right click on that
and it says eject usb flash drive kodak
usb i'm just going to go ahead and left
click on that
and it's going to eject it so we're not
corrupting our data and all our
files are saved properly and it's really
that simple to copy our files
from our computer to our flash drive
or external hard drive so i hope this
tutorial was able to help you out in
backing up all your files to your thumb
drive or flash drive
or external hard drive if it did make
