this week your baby might be waking up
to the world around them or they might
be asleep at the boob like little faith
is but either way we'll talk all about
it and your week three update while your
baby might still sleep a ton some of
that newborn haze might be starting to
wear off I know it is for faith so we
actually have moments where her eyes are
open she's looking around she's reacting
to stimuli and it's exciting to see for
everyone so our kids are loving it
my parents just Michael and I and but
don't be surprised in terms of eyesight
if she's not making eye contact with you
or if they look away a lot because
really their eyesight it's not very good
babies are born with 2,400 vision okay
by the time they're five if they had
normally developing eyes it is 20/20
vision by that so look how much it has
to grow and develop and change over the
course of the first five years of their
life so right now your baby can
basically see about eight to twelve
inches away from its face so pretty much
like where they nurse they can see your
face but even that it's not very clear
it's not in color your baby might give
you eye contact but maybe only for a few
seconds but just keep working on it it
will continue to change rapidly if your
if you do have older siblings in the
home this is a great time for them to
get a little bit more engaged and
involved you know we've had a deal a
little bit with some renegotiation of
just kind of our whole family because of
this new baby because you know my middle
daughter like I was with her all the
time we would cuddle in the mornings and
now I always have this appendage to this
new baby at my side all of the time
because faith loves to be held and it's
nursing almost constantly so it's been
harder at times and so I really had a to
talk to Paloma anti Griffin just really
keeping an open communication about how
babies need so much help and support
when they're so young and then it will
change and then I also like to show them
videos and pictures of them at faiths
age just to show them you know what I
was rocking you for hours I was nursing
you for hours I was doing all the same
things that I'm doing with faith with
you because this is what you do when you
have a baby and this is
we do it in our family and we just love
on these babies and before you know it
she'll be grown up and so that's kind of
hoping to just they can get a bigger
perspective and then finally something
that's been helping it's just getting
them involved so if I'm doing a diaper
change it's like having them get the
wipes or you know when we give faith a
bath you know they can wash the feet and
just things like that because then they
feel like they're the big kid and they
can be part of taking care of baby
the final thing I've been doing is when
baby is sleeping I do try to make time
one-on-one with my other kids if they're
around and I have to be honest that is
hard because when a baby is finally put
down I'm like oh my gosh I have freedom
I want to go like look at Instagram or
like read a magazine or just do
something for myself
but I'm just kind of like you know what
this is a temporary thing and right now
the bond between my other kids is really
important so I need to focus there but
if this is your only child enjoy your
free time when baby's down for a nap I
hope you're napping and getting extra
rest or just going outside and that
would be my final tip for this week if
you haven't already take baby outside
this can be hugely helpful if your baby
gets fussy in the late afternoons
sometimes just a change of scenery and
the fresh air and the sunshine will
change a baby's mood it's kind of like
they you know my husband you stole his
joke that in the house they act like the
tough guy or the tough girl and they
call the shots and they can be fussing
they can do that but once they get out
into the big world outside it kind of
cowards them a little bit and they are
more quiet and just more calm so just
like for us when we get outside we feel
great we feel better the same thing for
babies and they show in studies babies
that do get outside have stronger immune
systems that are sick less often and
they also sleep better and I think we
all could use a little more sleep right
so there you have it week three I hope
you have a great one and we'll catch an
