well hey guys in today's video I'm going
to be talking all about how to get rid
of broken capillaries those prominent
blood vessels that appear on the face
there's red thread-like projections you
can see them around the nose the cheeks
I'm going to explain why you get these
things how to prevent them and how to
get rid of them once and for all and we
refer to them as teal injectasias why do
we get these there are a lot of
different reasons for developing teal
injectations but probably one of the
most common reasons has to do with
cumulative sun damage what ends up
happening is that the UV rays they
actually destroy a lot of the supportive
framework and what that leads to is
thinning out of the dermis the deeper
layers of the skin and as the deeper
layers of the skin get thinned out well
of course that's what leads to wrinkles
but it also makes the underlying blood
vessels a lot more prominent UV rays
bring in a lot of inflammation cause of
blood vessels to dilate and they can
become fixed that way and very prominent
but another aspect of the lifestyle that
I really want to emphasize eyes to you
guys when it comes to the
telangentasia's appearing is if you
smoke that is like a double hitter the
smoking plus the UV rays really a setup
for developing extensive sun damage
including very very prominent teal
injectations one form of sun damage in
particular is notorious for including
prominent teal injectations and that is
a type of sun damage that usually occurs
on the sides of the neck it's called
poikiloderma of savant but another
common reason is going to be skin trauma
and that can come from anything that is
too abrasive to the skin notoriously
this can happen as a rare but notable
side effect of microdermabrasion
microdermabrasion is a cosmetic
procedure if you want to learn more
about it I have a whole video on it and
it Smooths out the skin surface but it
can be too much for some people and they
can develop prominent teal injectations
now skincare products try and emulate
microdermabrasion things like Scrubs
looking at you Saint Ives and while a
lot of people tolerate those products
just fine have no issue with them love
and adore them for some people
especially those with maybe a more
delicate skin type um may be at risk for
teal injectasias as a side effect of
scrubbing too hard that's why I always
caution against those scrubs encourage
people to lean into chemical exfoliants
if you are someone who is prone to
Flushing like when you get overheated or
when you get nervous or if you have
rosacea part of rosacea is Flushing that
constant flushing bringing up the
vasodilation to the surface of the skin
to dissipate heat over time each time
you have a flush it can increase the
risk of teal injectas developing in fact
one of the reasons I encourage you guys
who are dealing with symptoms of rosacea
to see a board-certified dermatologist
is that one of the advantages of getting
in there and helping to control the
rosacea early on and avoid rosacea
triggers is that the the goal is to not
only prevent fixed facial redness
persistent facial redness but also to
prevent the formation of prominent
telangentasias I already mentioned UV
rays but another type of radiation that
bears mentioning because I know a lot of
you guys have unfortunately had to go
through this is uh you can develop
prominent two languages as a side effect
of radiation therapy for like a cancer
for example breast cancer you may have
received radiation treatment radiation
treatment while great for targeting
those cancer cells it can really change
your skin a lot and it can cause your
skin to have a rash in the beginning but
it also can change your skin long term
it's referred to Chronic radiation
dermatitis and one way in which it does
that is making your skin develop these
prominent teal injectasias because it
changes again the structure of the skin
the architecture thins things out to a
certain extent making those blood
vessels a lot more obvious and this is
going to be especially true true if you
have a paler skin type or if you just
you know by virtue of your genetics your
Anatomy your makeup you have quote
thinner skin to begin with it's going to
be more obvious this type of change
after radiation it can happen anywhere
from 15 days after receiving radiation
all the way to like 10 years down the
road anything that leads to an increase
in circulating estrogens can trigger the
formation of telangentasias including
pregnancy
and taking oral combined birth control
pills that have an estrogen component
now I have a video talking all about
birth control pills how they're helpful
for acne especially those that contain
that estrogen component but a side
effect of those in the increase in
circulating estrogen can be the
formation of these prominent blood
vessels now here's the thing when it
comes to increases in circulating
estrogens triggering telangactasias this
is where knowing the root cause of why
you have the issue is key because it
least in the case of pregnancy you know
once you deliver the baby in most cases
the teal injectasias they spontaneously
go away so you don't need to chase after
anything honestly after having a baby
you're probably so busy you don't even
notice you have a teal injectasia and by
the time your child is you know off to
school it's already resolved likewise in
the case of combined oral contraceptive
pills those prominent teal injectations
if they do develop they can resolve once
that medication is stopped now there are
some underlying medical conditions that
lead to an increase in circulating
estrogens that trigger the formation of
teal injectations namely uh serious
liver disease like we're talking
end-stage liver disease consequence of
that is a rise in estrogen levels and
those patients develop very striking
teal injectas kind of all over the place
and they also often have uh diffuse
redness over their palms called Palmer
erythema alcohol can mediate flushing if
you're someone who drinks a lot of
alcohol you're constantly having redness
as a result of your drinking habits that
definitely can lead to prominent teal
injectas especially in people of Asian
descent their enzyme machinery for
processing alcohol is somewhat deficient
and they as a result when they drink
alcohol they have a buildup of the
metabolite acetaldehyde and that's what
leads to the flushing so those folks are
prone to not only bad hangovers but uh
more flushing more redness and they can
develop teal injectations as a result of
that but anyone who drinks a lot of
alcohol can and you know if you if you
remember back from my rosacea videos and
in facial redness videos alcohol is a
common trigger for flushing and facial
redness now a few weeks ago at this
point I did a video for you guys on
signs your cortisol is too high
something called Cushing syndrome can
develop and you'll recall from that
video that with Cushing syndrome when
you have high cortisol levels it it
changes the skin thins things out and as
a result you have prominent blood
vessels T Lounge octagious can appear
the skin manifestations of many
autoimmune diseases as are characterized
by prominent Tela injectasias namely
lupus you can have prominent
telangentasias but an autoimmune
connective tissue disease called
Scleroderma frequently has very
prominent teal injectas as well as
another autoimmune condition with skin
fine it's called dermatomyositis now we
already mentioned oral contraceptive
pills as a potential cause for prominent
teal injectations but another medication
class that definitely can trigger teal
injectations for whatever reason in Sun
exposed sites primarily are medications
that belong to the class known as
calcium channel blockers now these
medications are prescribed for high
blood pressure and they're they they
have vasodilatory properties that's part
of how they work for treating the high
blood pressure but a potential adverse
effect of those is that they can trigger
prominent telangentasias namely again on
sun exposed areas these medications
include diltiazem amlodipine nifedipine
and felodipine and it's so it's
definitely worth bringing to the
attention of whoever is managing your
high blood pressure because uh switching
to another class of medications can help
and a lot of times these blood these
teal injectations go away now definitely
do not just abruptly stop your blood
pressure medication without you know
talking to your doctor don't do that
because that can actually be
catastrophic depending on what you have
going on so don't go doing that
prominent teal injectations also are a
side effect of topical steroid use
inappropriate topical steroid use I
should say because when topical steroids
are are prescribed for certain skin
conditions and you're monitored they are
super safe and I don't want to
contribute to any steroid phobia out
there okay these are these are
medications that are highly effective
and some people their skin disease is
such that it you know they're not going
to develop these side effects when
they're being treated appropriately and
it you know in fact they really need
these medications but uh side effect if
they're they're used inappropriately is
you can develop prominent telangentasias
because the skin can thin as a steroid
medicine is being absorbed same steroid
concept that leads to thinning of the
skin and and Cushing syndrome where you
have high cortisol same issue can be
occurring in the skin locally where
you're putting that glucocorticoid
steroid
then the skin make telangentasias pop
out more obvious where steroid atrophy
and prominent blood vessels definitely
can occur is in the setting of people
who are getting these bleaching creams
which have cautioned against in other
videos these bleaching creams put
patients at risk for exogenous okronosis
from high amounts of of hydroquinone
unsupervised they also put patients at
risk for mercury poisoning and a
majority of these are going to have
steroids in them some of which are are
very potent and so we do see cases of
steroid atrophy prominent blood vessels
from people who have gotten these skin
bleaching creams that they've been using
for years and years on the face
unsupervised so that that's definitely a
scenario where you can run into
prominent blood vessels as a side effect
of you know products that are
adulterated with
glucocorticoid steroids telangetages
they can really develop anywhere but
they commonly happen on the face face
the neck they can happen on the upper
chest especially like the sides of the
neck as we mentioned earlier where your
skin sees a lot of sun damage you can
also develop them on the forearms the
backs of the hands now these prominent
teal injectasias these are not the same
thing as varicose veins they're not the
same thing I have a whole video as a
side note all about leg veins so if
you're dealing with leg veins check that
out you know I know people get bored in
these videos because I go into detail
about all the different causes but I'm
telling you knowing the root cause is
half the battle because I'm going to go
into detail about like prevention and
you know what treatments can actually
get rid of them but like you know I
highlighted you hopefully at this point
is like knowing the root cause it really
makes a difference because in some cases
like say for example on medication you
don't need to necessarily chase after
any treatment you know
um you know it's about adjusting the
medication where appropriate and then go
away if you have rosacea you know
controlling the rosacea is two-thirds of
the battle with the teal injectasias now
once they form there are treatments to
get rid of them but for you as someone
with rosacea you have to manage your
triggers to prevent relapses that's part
of keeping good control of it whether it
be sun exposure drinking alcohol
drinking hot liquids all of those
triggers we covered in my video on why
you have facial redness go back and
review that video so you know like what
you need to be dialing in as far as
things that might be aggravating
aggravating this condition for you
number one tip there are
nothing you can do at home is actually
going to get rid of these some of them
will spontaneously go away on their own
but you can't buy a cream in the store
you can't take a pill a supplement
nothing that will take away the teal
injectasia once it's formed what
actually can make a teal injectasia go
away is a it can spontaneously go away
in some cases B laser therapy which you
can't do at home none of the at-home
devices are going to Target the blood
vessel the dilated telangentasia you
have to see a dermatologist who does
laser treatments and specifically it's
going to be a vascular laser these
lasers work by targeting hemoglobin
which is uh within your red blood cells
so the laser specifically targets the
hemoglobin in that dilated telangentasia
and what it does is once it targets out
it causes the blood there to coagulate
and the the telangentasia just kind of
shrivels up and your body is like let's
get rid of this one example is called
pulsar my laser another one is the 1064
Indie yag laser that one goes a little
bit deeper you also have intense pulse
light IPL that's not a laser but intense
pulse light actually can help get rid of
some teal injectations provided that the
settings are appropriate for not only
the teal injectasia and getting rid of
it but for your skin type so if you're
going to pursue a laser or IPL for
getting rid of these make sure you go to
someone you know board certified
dermatologist somebody with experience
in treating these and treating your skin
type with the IPL there's a thermal
element to it that may help in
stimulating collagen around the blood
vessel to helping you know to kind of
improve the thickness of the skin IPL is
not as efficient but the nice thing
about the IPL in contrast to lasers it
has a larger it can go over a larger
surface area so it may be a good option
for you you may get good results but a
consultation with board certified
Dermatology just should point point you
in the right direction then there's
another more old-fashioned technique
that'll you know a lot of times works
well especially for those prominent
blood vessels around the nose and that's
electrocautery coagulates that blood
vessel and it dies off and goes away
doesn't involve a laser or anything of
that sort so that's another option but a
little less I guess precise and you know
potential for scarring but it definitely
can work and in many cases it's a great
option those are some you know treatment
options but again to emphasize you can't
just go into the store and buy a cream
to get rid of prominent tea Lounge
activities now you can use cosmetic
concealer to camouflage that's fine
especially those that have green tint
are good for camouflaging redness teal
injectas can occur in a background of
redness and so you may want to lean into
color correcting Cosmetics foundations
BB creams and tinted sunscreens speaking
of sunscreen my number number one tip
for preventing these is you have to
protect your skin from the Sun and you
know if you you know if you really want
to do a doozy to your skin well a doozy
would be smoking and drinking alcohol in
the sun all of those things can lead to
a lot of damage to the skin that puts
you you know on the path for prominent
telangentasias if you are someone who
has rosacea keep that Diary of trigger
so you have a good sense of what you
need to avoid common triggers for
rosacea and for flushing again sun
exposure heat exposure drinking hot
liquids getting overheated
sitting in the sun but the Heat and the
UV rays spicy foods irritating skin care
products even working up a sweat getting
your heart rate up can lead to Flushing
with rosacea so a tip that I have for
those of you out there who are prone to
Flushing is that when you exercise have
some ice water nearby and and you know
take sips of ice water as you're working
out put some ice chips in your mouth
that will will help counterbalance the
rise and temperature to your face it'll
really help cut down on on flushing also
cool compresses when you feel that
coming on it definitely can help
remember we said trauma is a factor so
if you are dealing with acne breakouts
do not pick the the acne you know I know
it's very hard for a lot of people it
you know it's a almost a stress relief
to to pick at the acne if you're
struggling with that check out my video
on skin picking disorder I give a ton of
tips there to stop doing that the acne
you know it can't get better so long as
you are picking and manipulating at the
skin squeezing popping trying to do the
at home comedone extractor don't do any
of that really bad for the acne and will
trigger you know possibly the formation
of these teal injectasias secondary to
trauma likewise don't go after those
harsh scrubs so those are my tips on you
know how to prevent these hopefully give
you some background information on why
exactly they form again knowing the root
cause is like two-thirds the battle and
it's really going to influence what
direction you go you know and at the end
of the day you can't just walk into a
store and find a product that's going to
get rid of these you're not going to
respond to anything in that way the way
to truly get rid of them is again they
either go away on their own or you
pursue laser or light based treatment or
you know a procedure from a Derm to
specifically Target them let me know in
the comments though if this is something
that you struggle with because I I'm
often hearing from you all that you want
some tips on on prominent teal
injectations so I really hope this video
was helpful to you guys now on the end
slate I'm going to put my video my
recent video about uh facial redness and
the use of oxymetazoline you're
definitely going to want to check that
out if you're dealing with facial
redness or whether it be related to
rosacea or post acne redness we cover a
lot of stuff in that one so check that
video out next but if you enjoyed this
give it a thumbs up share with your
friends and as always don't forget
sunscreen And subscribe I'll talk to you
guys tomorrow bye
