nearly 200 Nations have assembled here
this week a declaration that for all the
challenges we Face the growing threat of
climate change could Define The Contours

the case that climate change isn't
really prioritized when there are other
very pressing and very urgent things
that countries need to deal with and
it's completely understandable you know
when you have a country who are
struggling with providing food to all of
its citizens or have you know issues
around conflict or infrastructure and
you know lots of remote communities that
they're trying to improve quality of
life for
um it's kind of climate change gets
pushed to the back of the agenda into
the back of their mind because there are
people suffering right now from other
different causes within their country so
I do understand why it is very very
difficult for countries to prioritize
things like this when they have a lot of
other pressing concerns however if we
don't do something to address climate
change it's actually is going to
compound a lot of the existing issues
that we already have such as food
security water security Global um
conflict and things like that so
although it seems like a problem them
that is something that is going to
happen in the future if we don't take
action to address it now we won't be
able to

which stands for a conference of parties
there are lots of different
comprehensive parties but there's
specifically one for climate change
which involves every nation that signed
onto something called the United Nation
framework convention for climate change
or the UNF Triple C
and so every single year one of these
cops happens everybody attends from
around the world different global
leaders
um and they all try and take action uh
collectively to address climate change
because unfortunately there is no
international government so there's
nothing that you can kind of legislate
globally to address climate change it
requires negotiation from every
different country
um and one of the most important cops
that has happened was in 2015 where
there was the creation of something
called the Paris climate agreement and
the Paris climate agreement sets out
that global leaders have agreed to limit
global warming to below 1.5 degrees
ideally but definitely below 2 degrees
Celsius because this has been shown
scientifically to be the level at which
if we exceed the planet will become
increasingly unstable

one of the things that makes
very difficult to deal with on into
the fact that we all share the same
atmosphere so one country emitting
greenhouse gases doesn't just impact
that country it impacts the entire world
and so you have this problem of the fact
that most of the greenhouse gas
emissions historically have been
produced by just a few wealthy powerful
countries but unfortunately that is
impacting the entire world and there are
many many countries who have contributed
very little to climate change but are
going to feel the impacts of it and
they're actually likely to feel the
impacts a lot worse than those wealthy
countries because they don't have the
same resources and infrastructure to be
able to to deal with it and so those
unfortunately those who have contributed
the least to climate change are most
likely to feel the biggest impacts
this is obviously incredible incredibly
unfair
and just and it's some
it's a community you need to consider
and do more during that climate
negotiations is dealing with this unfair
distribution of the impacts and causes
of climate change
