hi everyone my name is Kevin today I
want to show you how you could turn on
dark mode in Google Chrome now it's
getting late outside I'm getting a
little tired and I've got this bright
light from Google Chrome shining in my
eyes that's not gonna help me asleep
tonight so how do we turn on dark mode
well let's jump to it Here I am on my
Windows PC and I've got YouTube up and
it is very bright there is just this
light just hitting me and I want to make
it a little more a little easier on my
eyes yeah I'm so what we're gonna do is
we're gonna turn on dark mode now before
you go jumping into Google Chrome
settings trying to figure out how to
turn dark mode it turns out there's no
setting in Google Chrome settings to
turn on dark mode because what they do
is Google Chrome adopts the dark mode
settings from Windows so what we have to
do is we have to turn on dark mode in
Windows and then Google Chrome will be
in dark mode so how do we do that well
let's go down to search in Windows and
it's pretty easy we're gonna type in
dark mode and what that does is you'll
see the best match is color settings
let's click into that and I don't open
up the color settings there's a lot of
stuff you can do here to adjust your
colors of how windows appears but what
we're interested in is dark mode let's
scroll down to the very bottom and
you'll see something that says choose
your default app mode you have two
options you have light which is what
we're on now and it is very light and
then there's another option that's
called dark and let's try that out let's
see what happens so here I click on dark
you'll notice now that Windows is in
Park mode so all my settings panes the
little search box on the taskbar all of
those have turned dark but the thing
that you came here for is how to turn
chrome dark and you'll see behind here
it turned Google Chrome to dark and so
let me go ahead and we'll shift that
back and forth again so here I go light
and then you can go to dark and you'll
see chrome updated to dark mode so
that's all it takes Google Chrome looks
at your windows settings windows is set
to dark mode and then your browser is
also in dark mode now one of the things
you'll notice though is the page itself
so I'm on YouTube and YouTube is not in
dark mode it's still very bright now the
thing is the the
site doesn't adopt the window setting
and so YouTube doesn't what I need to do
is some websites have their own specific
settings where I could turn on dark mode
so what I'm going to do is I'll click on
the me control in the top right hand
corner and then here YouTube added the
functionality to turn on dark theme so
I'm gonna click in that and then I'll
turn on dark theme so there we go now I
got dark going on going on all over not
only is my Google Chrome dark but the
YouTube websites dark and then also my
windows is dark so now it's now now I'm
kind of you know easing into the evening
with all this dark mode going on and and
so that's all it takes to turn on dark
mode unfortunately though even though
Google Chrome is set the dark mode and
all the chrome is part of the browser's
in dark mode let's say I go to a website
like the New York Times unfortunately
this is not in dark mode so now I get
that bright light hitting my eyes so
it's really you know now you know how to
turn it on for your browser hopefully
the sites you visit use it more and more
starting to do that dark but it's a
pretty popular thing the benefits of
dark mode it's a little more easing on
your eyes in the evening and let's say
you're on a laptop it helps conserve
some of the battery because you don't
have to shine this bright light out so
helps your battery last longer and
that's that's all it takes to take
advantage of dark mode in Google Chrome
