hey friends it's maddie thank you so
much for watching this video or coming
back to my channel i really appreciate
the support
today we are going to be talking about
how to write the perfect maid of honor
speech
[Music]
it can be a little bit intimidating if
you don't like public speaking you don't
like being in front of crowds
it can be something that makes your
stomach all turn up in knots but
calm down it's okay i'm gonna walk you
through it i'm gonna tell you how to
just
get through the short three to four
minutes it's okay
you can do it and i believe in you first
things first you are going to need
a pen and a piece of paper now of course
if you want to use your phone
you can this is personal preference to
me i prefer pen and paper to write down
instead of using my phone i use my phone
to give a speech before and i find that
i tend to lose my place a little bit
more often
and it just doesn't look as professional
or as grown up
as it would if you are just using a
piece of paper
alternatively you can memorize your
speech if that is something that you are
capable of
i personally don't have the ability to
memorize a speech that is anything
longer than usually
two to three minutes so i think having
just like a little note card or even
having a piece of paper with your entire
speech written out
is totally appropriate the first thing
you're going to do
is you're going to introduce yourself
you're going to say your name how you
know the bride or how you know the groom
how you're related to them or just what
your relationship is like
i have a wedding that's coming up in
fact it's this weekend and i'm just
finishing up writing my speech now
so i'm gonna introduce myself by saying
hi everyone thank you so much for coming
here today to honor the bride and groom
i
am so honored to be here myself my name
is madeline vasilyev
and i am so so humbled that brie picked
me to be her maid of honor i have known
brie for as long
as we have been alive our mothers were
pregnant at the same time together and
they were in bible study so from the
moment we were born
we were friends so you kind of introduce
yourself like i said
just make it natural you can explain how
either your parents are friends or maybe
you were thrown together in a dance
class or maybe you were partnered up in
college
and you didn't like each other at first
but then you got to know each other you
know things like that funny little
quirky things
that just explain how you know the bride
of course if you are related to the
bride you can say that you can say this
is my sister
this is my cousin we have always been
best friends we've been super close
whatever makes sense and whatever the
relationship is that's what you're gonna
mention after that you're gonna do
a quick short thank you to the bride and
the groom's parents
for being there for helping host the
event if there is a little bit of family
tension
maybe certain family members aren't
there then you can leave this part out
but i always find it nice to
thank the hosts of course more and more
modern weddings in today's day and age
tend to have the bride and groom
pitching in a little bit more than just
the parents who traditionally will take
over
so you can always just thank the bride
and groom for hosting mention what a
beautiful day it is
those sorts of things so for me i would
say thank you so much
to the bride and groom's families who
are here this is such a beautiful day i
know that brianna put a ton of work into
it i know it is a really hard time to be
planning a wedding right now and she
handled this with so much grace
so that's something that i would say
then you're gonna get a little bit more
personal you can share a personal story
something that might be a little bit
funny
you know this is where you're gonna
bring your humor into it of course be
yourself if you don't think you're a
funny person don't force it so you're
gonna think back through all the
memories maybe pick one that shows off
their personality a little bit
more and kind of what the dynamic will
be like between the bride and groom
pointer don't make it too personal it
can get really awkward and don't share
anything inappropriate
from there after talking about the bride
you're going to shift to the spouse and
you're going to talk a little bit about
how you knew that maybe they were the
right person the moment you met them and
the moment that they interacted there's
something about their relationship and
the dynamic that they have and how you
know that they are going to be a perfect
fit for each other
from there obviously you're going to
give your well wishes and
maybe a piece of advice if you're
married yourself like i am
obviously compliment them make it about
them make it kind
something that shows how they really
bring out the best in each other and how
you think that they're the best fit for
each other
and to finish it off you're going to end
with either a quote or a bible verse
whatever makes the most sense
in context for your friends that's what
you're gonna do so
i know that my friends are christians so
i'm probably going to end with either a
quote from a christian pastor
or i'm going to end with a quote from
the bible a bible verse that will make
sense
i think it'll be glorifying to god or
will bring them honor on their wedding
day
of course if your friends aren't
religious at all you can always just use
a quote or
a funny little saying that you think
applies to their relationship
i guess that might not be the true end
because the true end of a speech is when
you end with a toast
so make sure when you go up you have a
drink close to you so that you can give
a toast to the bride and groom or to the
happy couple so
what i would say is i would say in my
quote i would say my bible verse and
then i would say you know can everybody
please raise a glass
to honor and to celebrate my best friend
and her new husband
and then i would say their names and i
would say cheers that's what i would do
now here are a quick few pointers the
age-old saying k-i-s-s
keep it simple stupid don't make it too
difficult don't write down 20 pages
make it short make it sweet just be
yourself which leads to the next thing
like i said earlier if you're not a
funny person don't try to be funny
because it's going to be
awkward you aren't going to present the
speech as well as you normally would
just be yourself when you are giving
this speech and you are going to have
the best results possible
obviously there are a few things that
you should stay away from never
ever ever mention x's or previous
relationships in your speech
anything that would bring embarrassment
to the bride the groom or the couple so
that means
exes it should be avoided at all cost
any family tension if there's divorce in
the family
stay away from this don't mention
divorce at all it is a wedding day that
is inappropriate and you need to stay
away from that like i said earlier
anything embarrassing that's going to
make them blush
make them feel uncomfortable stay away
this is the way that you are trying to
honor your friends
and honor their relationship and really
celebrate them
so don't embarrass them while you are
giving a speech well i know that
sometimes it can be awkward to give a
speech that you don't feel prepared for
or you hate speaking it's way better to
step out for a minute before you have to
give your speech take some deep breaths
drink some water drink some ice cold
water something that will kind of
pull you out of that panic attack if
you're having one and just
breathe and then my biggest pointer do
not be drunk when you give your speech
i can't tell you how many weddings i've
been to where there has been
the groomsmen or the maid of honor who
has been just a little bit too far
and had a few too many drinks and it's
just awkward they slur their speech
they can't finish what they're saying
they pause they can't
figure out where they are in their
speech so just stay away from it i know
that you might think that having a drink
or two might give you some you know
liquid courage in order to get up there
and say what you need to say
but nine times out of ten it comes back
to bite you in the butt
and if anything you might say something
that just isn't appropriate
so bring up a glass if you are going to
be drinking in order to give a toast but
don't be drinking heavily before you
give your speech
my final tip which i think is the most
important
thing practice practice practice read
your speech out loud
i know it sounds awkward but you'll
realize that you might have typed
something
that doesn't sound natural to say out
loud but it might make sense in your
head
and you might say to yourself oh i need
to go and edit that
you can always give it to a friend you
trust to look it over
and review it for you and say oh this is
awkward maybe this is a little bit too
personal or
what does this mean something along
those lines you know
if you trust them they'll edit it down
for you but always practice
read it to your friend read it in front
of a mirror read it until you're
comfortable with it i'm not kidding when
i say
do it at least 25 times the more you
practice the more natural it's going
to become if you read it that many times
it's going to start getting into your
head
so if you feel nervous it's just going
to be something that you already know
because you have it written down and
you've read it so many times
so that if you feel like you're
stuttering or you lose your place as
you're reading
you kind of already know in the back of
your head where you're trying to go and
there's always room for improvement so
those are my tips i can't wait for the
wedding this weekend for my beautiful
beautiful friend
i can't wait to go celebrate her and her
new husband and i'll see if i can
include a clip of my speech in there or
i have
used these tips myself
[Music]
hi everyone i am maddie vasiliev i'm the
maker of honor and i have known bree
for quite literally her entire life my
mother
and her mother faith were both pregnant
at the same time
since our moms were friends they
basically forced friendship upon us
we've been connected at the hip since we
were babies pretty much
while we only lived in the same town for
a few short years before brie moved to
minnesota
then to florida and then back to
minnesota our friendship was set in
stone
and our mothers ensured that we kept in
touch through dozens of visits
lots of written letters and hundreds and
hundreds of phone calls
well we have countless memories together
one of my favorites has to be
when brie had her birthday party at the
zoo
we ate pizza and cake in this really
cool monkey alcove it like bumped into
the monkey exhibit
and i mean it was without a doubt the
coolest birthday party i've ever been to
it still hasn't been tough i mean who
wouldn't want to eat with monkeys that's
incredible
but your true gracious spirit definitely
shined through
when all of a sudden her birthday party
was crashed
by a huge amish family who stepped over
the rope
ignored the signs that said private
party and i'll never forget locking eyes
with you i don't know
seven eight years old and thinking like
what
the heck is happening i have it
ingrained in my mind
well i'm happy to tell you that on your
most important day i managed to track
them down
so everyone if you could please give a
warm welcome to no i'm kidding
are you putting through the snowstorm
that's going to be my only joke i'm
really funny
brie has been by my side my entire life
she is the most faithful of friends the
most trusted top guy
and the most spirited person i know her
tenacity
always leaves me feeling inspired her
words are always
life-giving and she seeks to understand
is quick to apologize and willing to
admit when she's wrong
to sum it up free i want to be like you
when i grow up
you found the rarest of gems brianna is
the most special person in the world so
don't forget that
she loves her whole heart he's the most
loyal human i've ever known
of course i'm sad that i'm losing my
spot is bree's number one adventure
buddy
ryan i'd say you have big shoes to fill
but i only wear a size six
but my hope is that your marriage is a
representation of christ's love for the
church
and since i already know free's heart
for the lord
i know that it will be of course there
are many unknowns ahead
but you can rest on the fact that god
has written your story and put you two
together
since before the foundations of the
earth were ever laid
i'll finish the quote from john piper
i was gonna do the concert i didn't know
how i would go over
marriage the roots are deep the covenant
is solid
love is sweet life is hard and god is
good
so everyone please the round of applause
in honor of my best friend
and her new groom mr and mrs bell hmm
